Would be interested to see a video on the Israeli bandage.

We use Israeli Bandages (also called Emergency Bandages) here, which is an ETD with a built-in plastik handle bar to put pressure directly on the wound

Well that's interesting. We have the OLAES on car where I work and trained with them, but not one person that I know of is aware of the removable dressing or the occlusive dressing! The things you learn online! LOL

We don't use the plastic in the OLES for open pneumothorax it's used for evisceration.

OLAES four inch flat is a great bandage to have in a range bag. That with a par of gloves and CAT and I have a small life saving package in a range bag pocket. Just some food for thought if you don't have a dedicated medpouch.

Happy someone said it before I did.

I was taught to twist the elastic at the site of injury to create more pressure. But good vid, I never used any of these.

I have tried both bandages. The Oleas modular bandage rolls out enabling greater pressure on the wound and more rapid unrolling. The plastic cup applies LOTS of pressure to the wound. It also has included packing for one or two wounds. May be adequate in some cases to avoid a tourniquet. NAR trauma dressing rolls under not out. Harder to use, harder to get more pressure on the wound. No packing. I prefer the Oleas.

You just got yourself the hundredth like. Great videos you're making. I'm looking forward for more in future.

Thanks, do you like the 7.5 or 5.5 inch or 6.5 inch or is it personal preference.

Having in excess of 30 year in prehospital and tactical care, I would say that items in your bag that can carry out more than one rollare surely better, so I prefer the OLAES. I agree train, use it mess about with it, figure what it can and can't do is the best way. RIP SSgt TB Olaes thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for sharing that. Simple is often best, that’s for sure. Two good dressings though.

The NAR bandage is packaged neater as well, which is key when organizing & identifying the proper dressing. 😁👍👍

I switched from the israeli to te OLAES for my IFAK's because of the versatility (I used the presure cup as an eyeshield one time). for 3rd line or "home" applications i stay with the good old gauze rolles with mybe a cover bandage.

Just going off of what I've been told and how i was trained i have an Israeli bandage. Could you do a video on why these are better. Looks like I'm going to pick up a few of these to check out.

68w here, so you've probably already been taught this by now, but both bandages/dressings function like an ace wrap except that at the time the Israeli dressing was invented it was pretty revolutionary because that plastic bar applied pressure directly on the site of the injury because there is only so much pressure you can apply with a regular ace wrap or gauze before you actually cut off blood flow below the dressing, which you don't wanna do. The OLAES does the same thing as the Israeli but with the plastic cup. My guess is that the OLAES is likely more effective IF you get the point of the cup right over the wound - you're kinda using the same logic as you are with the original Israeli, only even more concentrated to the actual injured area. I imagine the dressing was invented in the first place after some clever guy stuck a rock on the injury between wraps of his dressing Plus the OLAES comes in a hemostatic version now which is just sexy

What are your thoughts on Combat Medical Systems Battle Bandage? It has the bandage but the wrap is clear. It comes in their March Ifak resupply kit, not sure if that's supposed to be their version of this

Also prefer the NAR-ETD. 🙂

Uriel Notfallbandage Emergency Multi Bandage are very great but they have production problems only to get non-steril atm ;( But I love all the Trauma Dressings also when doing sport and you got a bubu which is annoying you fix it with Hansaplaster Pansement Spray or a kind of israel bandage and your good to go again, without having to take care about it could rip off or move.

OLAES gets my vote.

Just to be clear, you don't have to remove the gauze or plastic from the olaes before using it as a traditional bandage? I can't see why you would have to but the thought of "there's accessories inside this thing" makes me want to second guess

In general would you recommend the 4" or 6" ETD for most kits?

Could you use the olaes "makeshift chest seal" for a burn layer before you wrap it?

I would say so, if it's a bad situation where you need to act yeah, but if I had time I'll grab hydrogel gauze or any impregnated gauze and then wrap it with the oleas with the film applied first. Just anything so it doesn't stick to skin getting it off

I prefer the ETD for the extra length you get with the wrap.

why cut off before demonstrating how to use thr clip on the end?

The NAR may be “easier to use”, but only if you don’t go digging for the other parts of the OLAES. If you leave them buried under the absorbent pad, there is no difference in ease of use, is there?

I think he's biased towards only NAR for the gov discount from watching a lot of his videos, and products that help or give discounts to gov employees, doesn't check out a lot of other products for comparison to nar just a few

Interesting theory…. Except that I have worked with H&H, SAM, Chito, Celox, MyMedic, Rescue Essentials and a couple others I’m sure I am not mentioning. It really comes down to simplicity over almost anything else. Also, I could care less about a gov discount. I don’t really buy medical supplies anymore, it’s one of the benefits to having this platform. Interestingly though while I have received products directly from most of the companies listed above, NAR hasn’t sent me a thing. All the supplies I have from them came in other peoples IFAKS that have been sent as a review.

You are suppose to wrap around one layer then twist, wrap then twist. Just wrapping it around will not apply enough pressure. This is also why they have a clip..

What do you think of the Israeli trauma dressing?

In the video Sam mentions prices for these two products. I live in Canada so I understand that I must convert into US Dollars but ,still, I can't find prices for these products which are anywhere near as low as what Sam quotes. In my search both products are in 20$ - 50$ range, depending on features - for example the Olaes now comes in a hemostatic version. In any case, why am I unable to find prices which are anywhere near as low as what Sam quotes?

The video was made almost 5 years ago. Prices change and inflation, especially on medical devices, is a real thing

I guess I'm going to be a new comment on an old video. I like the Olaes for every day carry where I might need to helps someone else or myself. For an IFAK where I may have someone who has zero training may have to work on an unconscious soldier/cop/ medic the ETD is probably easier.

Wonder what to carry, 4 inch or 6 inch???

Oleas hands down, faster and compact. Made by a combat spec ops medic. And saves time which is critical if you're just fixing someone to be able to move them out right away, instead of opening multiple packages during stress and risking the chance of fumbling products to the ground which happens often in bad scenarios

Man yall got it made with all that hi-tech gear. I was a Corpsman with the Marines in the 90's. All we had was those white paper packaged Baxter 4x4s and gauze, and a Kerlix roll. And a regular belt tourniquet. How longs it take to open all that double packaged ,shrik wrapped mess? By the time i save one person with that fancy crap, i could save 4 Marines.

Yes you pack wounds. Wounds to the junctional areas of your body mainly to the shoulder and to the groin. If you have a severe wound on an extremity a tourniquet should be applied and then the wound can be packed if transport to a trauma center will be delayed. If you have a wound to the chest or neck you NEVER pack those wounds. You must use an occlusive dressing and seal it off. If not the patient will develop a tension pneumothorax. Air becomes trapped inside the chest cavity pushing on the heart and leads to cardiac arrest. So to pack a wound you want to use something like combat gauze with hemostatic agent impregnated in it. Regular gauze will work also. You have to probe the wound with a gloved finger and you will feel a rush of blood. Like putting your finger over the tip of a garden hose. That is where the bleed orginates. You take a knot of gaze and have to place it directly up against that rush of blood. Then you contine to pack into the wound mainting pressure on the origin of the bleed. Till you cant put anymore in. Pressure dressing over top of the wound and transport to a trauma center.
