@@ad3mn Not doing well at the box office doesn't mean much, he's had a lot of stuff that didn't do overly well when it was released. They've all been masterpieces though. You have to remember he makes a genuine token gesture to make them mainstream accessible as he's fully aware most of the population are dense as absolute pig shit but Ridley does have more balls than most and makes films of a genre for an intended audience.

Historical epics like Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer and Now Ridley Scott’s Napoleon are definitely worth watching on the big screen can’t wait to see this.

I missed historical spectacles so much. Early 2000's were a time of big-budget historical movies and they were all magnificent, and to this day remain classics, but for a solid decade that genre nearly came to a halt. They are slowly coming back and I love it.

It's so bizarre -- historical epics seemed to largely die out around the time of Master & Commander, and Kingdom of Heaven. But they should be an absolute CONSTANT in cinema! History is a bottomless well which Hollywood can tap; it should be a no-brainer. Hopefully Napoleon ushers in a new wave of historical epics.

From a Roman emperor to a French emperor, Joaquin Phoenix is an incredibly versatile and talentful actor. He fits and perform well in probably every movie he has been a part of. Can’t wait to see another movie with him and by legendary director Ridley Scott.

This was such a good movie, had the similar feeling as troy. Insane battle scenes. I would rewatch it again easily.

I adore how many of the major fight scenes have the appearance of paintings.

I was sceptical about this movie..£20 to watch a film that makes an absurdity of Napoleon's main feature, his battles. The second I saw a rifleman with a scoped rifle perched on a rest and taking a pot shot at a sword wielding Napoleon at Waterloo....I wanted my money back. Has Hollywood lost it's marbles ? Did they forget to hire a historical advisor ? Such a damn shame, one of my all time favourite films dealing with the Napoleonic era is the Duellists, a Ridley Scott film, this is a shocker ! You'll learn nothing about Napoleon's battle's by watching this film. I can't get my money back I don't think, don't lose yours.

All the historians complaining about inaccuracies when this was more about who he was as a person than what he did. Cinematically this was very well done.

After so many failed super hero movies and mindless rehashed sequels, this is definitely a breath of fresh air. It’s like the old period costume epic movies that Hollywood used to make with a cast of thousands. I love history based movies and this one is right up my alley. Joaquin Phoenix never disappoints and Ridley Scott is still making visual masterpieces. Just have to wait until end of November to see it, that’s the only bummer.

I wasn't a huge fan of how Napoleon was portrayed and Phoenix didn't do great here I saw part of the joker coming out but it didn't feel right.. Napoleon would have been a confident leader given what he achieved

I don't see the pope in the coronation scene. It should be an important aspect of it since Napoleon made sure to crown himself when he was expected to be crowned by the pope. He wanted to emphasize there was already no power above him.

Just seen this, wasn’t impressed, agree with comment above, phoenix is a great actor but he basically played the joker here, not enough charisma. For all his flaws Napoleon was charismatic and loved by the people, that wasn’t sold in this movie.

I know this movie gets a lot of hate, but I am such a huge history nerd especially of this time period and we need a film about Napoleon and we finally got one thanks to Ridely Scott. I am so hyped to watch this film and I’m currently writing a novel about the most famous people of the Napoleonic Era, including this guy and Josephine.

It was a great movie because it was liked very much by Bala, Vahid and Orkhan. Thank you to everyone for their hard work.

Already watched this film. For me, its 2 of 10. If you a person who has interest in napoleonic history or Napoleon Bonaparte as an historical figure, i suggest to bring blanket and pillow

I just hope they don't try to make him a "relatable" loner like all the comments pretend he is and how he kinda sounds in this trailer. He was extremely charismatic to the point he was able to conquer a continent, which is absolutely not relatable or like the joker lol

@@Rings-of-Saturn2 Absolutely agree. Napoleon had an excellent relationship with his soldiers, and officers under him, which the movie shows non of it. And Napoleon made amazing speeches which the movie didn't show any of them.

Don't care what anybody says but Joaquin Phoenix is in the top five greatest actors of all times.

"I found the crown of France laying in the gutter.... And I put it on my own head" That line had me. The delivery was epic. It had me wondering if that was a direct historical quote or not. Just fantastic.

It is a direct quote, although it was obviously originally said in French. He refused to have the Pope or any other Catholic authority put it on his head as he wanted to signal that his authority was above that of the church.

@@Galvaxatron Thanks for that. I knew the history of not having the pope crown him for France... it's just the line itself I found incredible. I also found out that there was more to it. "Picked it up with my sword and made it clean... and put it atop my own head". Just a fantastic scene for the movie. I can't wait to see it.

​@@dizzytitan8481 well it's all about a point in time in France, so everyone speaking English with French accents is even more ridiculous than Joaquin speaking without one. Plus, sure if an actor can really pull it off then maybe, but for Joaquin, I think it's much better to leave the accent out for the sake of not taking anything away from his whole-hearted focus on his performance.

Not expecting this movie to feature accurately and fully all of Napoleon's explois, but if it's directed by Ridley and Joaquin Pheonix is the protagonist, it is bound to be of high quality.

Napoleon is one of the most celebrated historical figures ever. He had such a rich history. But how can they put 20 years of his life into just 2 and a half hours? I guess we'll find out when it is ready. But one thing we can count on is that Joaquin Phoenix will conquer this role like so many others. "Who's country are we in?" "Mine!" Absolute chills!

sorry but all major movies are made in the language of the people that defeated Napoleon....then Germany...then nazi Germany( caused by Napoleon)..then let themselves get invaded by a hordes of criminals in tiny wooden boats that they support financially at the cost of the decendents of those great heroic Englishmen that saved the modern world numerous times.

Agreed! Especially considering that the 2002 TV miniseries starring Christian Clavier as Napoleon was almost 6 hours - and not even that managed to cover all the major events.

@@Latinkon Yes! Thank you for mentioning the 2002 miniseries. Clavier's take was hands-down the best depiction of Napoleon (and Isabella Rosellini as Josephine as well). I think if you combined Clavier's wit with Phoenix's gravitas, you'd get the perfect Napoleon.
