Napoleon Dynamite - Uncle Rico's Time Machine
Фильм және анимация
Napoleon Dynamite (2004)
Fox Searchlight Pictures.
Rico longs to go back in time and change his fortune, even buying a "time machine" from the Internet in an attempt to return to 1982. He fervently believes he had the potential to be a star quarterback in the National Football League, if only his coach had played him in the 4th quarter of the championship game, which he is sure he could have won for his team. Despite acting like a jock and adopting a condescending attitude, in reality he is just as geeky as Napoleon and Kip.
Napoleon Dynamite is a 2004 American independent comedy film co-written and directed by Jared Hess and Jerusha Hess and stars Jon Heder as the eponymous character, Napoleon Dynamite. The film was Jared Hess's first full-length feature and is partially adapted from his earlier short film, Peluca.

I probably watched this movie 100 times in Iraq in 2005. It came in a care package and was one of the few movies we had at the time, so it was on 24/7. I never got sick of it though, it got better every time.
I love how you can interpret Uncle Rico's story either way. Firstly, I've known football players who boast about being the best and in reality, they suck so bad that the football itself would laugh. Or Uncle Rico was being truthful and was the best on the team and could have led the team to become state champions, but he could have been injured, ending his dream career, therefore making him depressed and resorting to what he does now by selling products. Or maybe he never played the sport in his life and thought he could but never made the team, so he lied that he played football to everyone he met. But who knows, you can interpret it any way you want. But you cannot deny the way he tells the story makes you laugh but it also makes you think as well. Brilliant movie overall.

After I transferred with my job in late-2004, this movie helped to eradicate the pangs of homesickness I was still having a few months later. Must've watched Napoleon Dynamite once a week to be cheered up. First time I saw this movie I was struck by "The Promise" by When In Rome playing over the credits since i had been on a quest to find that song in the early-'90s. When I lived in TN, an auto union rep from Detroit retired as did her husband and brother-in-law, both auto factory workers. They moved in next door and it was hilarious. The lady could have been Napoleon's Aunt. Yes, she was the splitting image of the crazy lady from the movie who loved 4-wheeling, even after she broke her arm. Because she always worked with auto workers on the assembly line, she was always shouting, even when you were standing right next to her. The two older gents were stone deaf from the decades of noise. They turned out to be really cool peeps and were very entertaining!

Back in high school I had an opportunity to enter an interschool competition. Before that I was never really interested in things like that, but I wanted to impress a girl that I liked and she was entering in one of the girl's categories. I can imagine had I not entered and stayed comfortable at the time, I'd have regretted it all my life like Uncle Rico. Grab every opportunity you can get. All your life not just school.
