Naomi Osaka feels new sense of responsibility amid return to the court 🎾 | SportsCenter

Спорт

Noami Osaka is about to make her return to her first Grand Slam since giving birth to her daughter Shai in July. It’s not the first time she has stepped away from the game but this was the longest absence for the former #1 ranked tennis player. The desire to win is still there and the 4-time grand-slam winner has set high goals for herself, wanting to win 8 more major titles and Olympic Gold in Paris this summer. But one thing that has changed for the 26-year-old, is her outlook on life since becoming a mother. Last December, while training in Los Angeles ahead of her return to the Australian Open, she sat down with Senior ESPN.COM writer D’Arcy Maine to discuss how life is different now, and how that’s changed her mind set when she takes the court.

Listening to that interview makes me realize that Naomi still has inner work to do to up her mental game emotionally. I believe she thinks that she has a better perspective, because she has been checking in with a psychotherapist when necessary. Maybe motherhood has also forced her to make a shift, wherein she is not so much into her feelings, because now she has a responsibility to her baby girl. The public doesn’t seem to understand that Naomi’s upbringing was very sheltered, and she lacked a lot of socialization skills. This led to her being an introvert, and painfully shy. You can still see it in the interview. It wasn’t an easy conversation. She still is reticent to approach other players with the hope of befriending them on the tour. One cannot change their persona in one fell swoop. It will continue to be a journey for her. I just want to see her fierceness on the court, when she is locked in battle. Love watching Naomi’s game. Wishing her luck at Oz.

While the interviewer covered a lot of territory the session didn't seem conversational but more like someone else said "like a grilling" I feel Naomi has a better grip on what she THOUGHT it would be like and the REALITY. Making that shift is huge because she now knows what she is up against. Wishing her all the best and glad she has returned to play.

@@BRDMPR You hit the nail on the head about "knowing how to engage." Some interviewers study a persons history and then weave that into questions and I think that is what was lacking rather than these are the questions I want to ask and I want to cover all of them.

Other people's and opinions is a bouquet of wealth and blessings, there will always be someone who is more knowledgeable about any giving issue and problem that arrives on the surface and not accepting criticism, healthy criticism can offer challenges and less reasoning...look at it as having another coach in your life, to help you forge forward. ❤

She seems much more comfortable in interviews. Earlier in her career she took interviews way too seriously and actually tried to answer the questions she was asked. Most celebrities know, interviews are opportunities to get your message out, the questions don't actually matter, just stick to your talking points no matter what question is asked.

I do hope her mindset has leveled up a bit since having her daughter. Being a public figure is a double-edged sword. She has to learn how to brush things off and go about her day. Her mental game was always where she was lacking. Wish her good luck on her journey, but I'm rooting for Coco and Svitolina all the way!😊

Not everyone loves everything that comes with their careers but you have the luxury of choosing what you want to do and getting rich in the process. So please stop complaining. It may be soothing and therapeutic to talk out your inner feelings bhh its better to talk w a professional and with family members even though they dont share your enthusiasm for the game as you see it, bhh parents are def., more in tune to what their children are in2 bhh not as much their children...now a new generation is born you can understand your parents more and its rewards.

Listen up, Naomi! The Williams Sisters gave you and a Whole Generation the template to tour happiness, longevity and relevance. Have a life and other endeavors away from tennis. Take breaks and rest your body when YOU see fit. Plan a limited and strategic schedule. Care nothing about the opinions of the media and the outside world. And end of the day, Set your own standards for goals, success and what is satisfying for you and your career.

She has made it hard for herself in so many ways by choosing professional tennis except that she made her 5 million before her breakdown. And she has brokered it by becoming a public figure willing to cash in on her anxiety disorder. She will never, in time, regain her supremacy as a tennis player for its own sake. She’s lost valuable time and currency in that capacity.
