Nantucket, The Little Grey Lady of the Sea, 1949

Nantucket’s historic ambiance was crucial to the promotion of the island as a summer tourist destination. To this end, the Little Gray Lady of the Sea, a film made in the 1940s by Nantucket summer residents Edward Wells Beach and Edith Todd Beach and narrated by Jacqueline Killen, presents the island through charming historical pastiche (costumes included).
(Note that the voice is not out of sync with the video, but was recorded after the fact as a separate narration.)

This was made the year my mother's family had to move off island, when my aunt got polio. It's fun to see what it was like then, but really...shouldn't she know how to pronounce Ma-RYE-uh?
