Naming Cis / Trans Double Bonds
You need to figure out if the two "most important" groups are on the "same side" of the double bonds (CIS) or on "opposite sides" of the double bonds (TRANS). Then, the word 'cis' or 'trans' just goes in front of the regular molecule name.
i.e. cis-pent-2-ene, trans-but-2-ene.

This guy has saved my life on so many exams its not even funny anymore. I just seriously appreciate all of his videos.
srsly why am I paying college fees? I should be paying this guy!!!

Endorsed! ❣
God bless you. Thank you so much. I'd been panicking over a stereochemistry problem and this resolved the problem.
hi, can you do a video on determining the relationship of two isomers?...I am struggling with the difference between functional group isomers and constitutional isomers.
I have a chemistry exam in less than two hours, this really helped! Thank you!

How was the exam ?
do you have a video that helps with finding possible isomers?
That's a wonderful video. It helps me a lot. Thank you Nate!
يسعدك يا زلمه حليت عقده عندي واخيرا فهمت cis و trans
Thanks this video is great can you explain how a molecule with a ring would have cis and trans thanks
I don't understand why they are on different sides? How do you know what's on which side? Why?
Do the alkyl groups (4-ethyl and 3-methyl) Need naming?
That thing he did at the end made me melt :')
At 4 min in the video... the compound you name non-3-ene.. why didn't you name it to give the csrbon one the double bond the lowest number? Instead of the longest chain? Isn't the double bond highest priority when numbering the cimpound ?
The most clear version of cis/trans , Thanks bro I love u , many love
Are you Canadian or Minnesotan? I heard you say "aboot" instead of "about" Nice Deuces at the end there
thanks man you cleared up all my questions
clear, to the point and understandable. thank you
So helpful..Thank you so much for clear explanation😊
Very elegant and simple explanation. Thanks!
Sir...please share more videos
On the cis-non-3-ene, how come the two carbons was higher priority than the 3 carbons? If the the 3 carbons was higher priority wouldn't it make it trans?

its 5 carbons on the left side compared to two carbons, so the priority would go to the section that has the highest carbon chain
thanks thanks that was rreally helpfull the best ever thanks
Great job. Thanks mate
I searched up trans bond because of the new upcoming James bond movie and found this. Im to stupid to know what you were talking about but i still subbed 😀
Can you write 2-Pentene

2-pentene, or pent-2-ene (same molecule, different naming convention) has five carbon atoms with a double bond between carbons 2 and 3.

2-Pentene is the old way of naming it. Pent-2-ene follows the new rule of IUPAC to name it. Either way it's the same molecule .

Yes, you can. My professor tell use the old way of naming

You can, but it isn't appropriate to be used now as it is the old pattern of nomenclature.
Thank you!
Thanks sir 🙏
thank you
Thanks man

Thank u :-)
Lmao me too buddy
