No, di goes right before the ol. In your answer, you are saying there are 2 butanes...

In our syllabus it is told not to remove 'e' of alkane while naming di, tri or polyhydric alcohols!

The alcohol is the highest priority functional group so we need to give it the lowest number Here is a priority table for functional groups: www.masterorganicchemistry.com/2011/02/14/table-of-functional-group-priorities-for-nomenclature/
