Alcohols - Naming + Properties
Alcohols are easy to name. Take the regular molecules name (ane or ene or yne), remove the "e" from the end, and add OL. You will probably have to give a number, to show where the OH group is.
Alcohols are more polar and have hydrogen bonding, so they have higher melting/boiling points than their corresponding alkanes and alkenes.

You're a great teacher - really. I understood better from you than anyone else! Thank you!
Can u plz give a list of the highest to the lowest priority functional groups in nomenclature like when you said alcohol has more priority than the ene (double bond)
I like how you explain things, simple and friendly, thankyou sir!
you are so good at explaining and so encouraging im an A level student ive never understood it better

im an A level student too i know the pain haha
Best organic chemistry teacher...
3:04 isn't the double bond on 6? So wouldn't it be hept-6-en-3-ol?
Our teacher don't even teach us, THANKS

Sir you are amazing...please do more video for carbonyl group also
You are the bomb.com. Love your videos! Wish you were my AP Chem teacher.
thnks for your teaching well done ustaad
God bless you. thank you for your helping .
You are simply the BEST
what kind of naming is this
My favourite chem guy
I like all the hand gestures and pointing because I am a visual learner and that is how I teach my classmates sometimes
thanks . very understandable
In your third example on the first page, could it also have been dibutan-2,3-ol ? Or does the di have to come right before the ol

Yes because that indicates that there are two alcohols

No, di goes right before the ol. In your answer, you are saying there are 2 butanes...
In our syllabus it is told not to remove 'e' of alkane while naming di, tri or polyhydric alcohols!

Swapnil Bankar they might not mention it but it is in English knowledge you should know it
this video helps me so much thanks :D
really good video, im starting to name alcohols. cool
shouldn't it be hept-2-en-5-ol as the double bond comes first from the other side and there is no tie.

The alcohol is the highest priority functional group so we need to give it the lowest number Here is a priority table for functional groups: www.masterorganicchemistry.com/2011/02/14/table-of-functional-group-priorities-for-nomenclature/

thanks for your help!!!
Sir You r GREAT
YOU'RE GREAT💖💖👍👍
Bosses among Kings!!
Good job 👍
Thank you so much !!!!
Thanks its very easy to anderstand
Shouldn't it be butane-2,3-diol instead of butan-2,3-diol?

I think it should be pentan-2-ol as he said coz it is not an alkane but an alcohol
awesome dude
Thanks so much man
u forgot to say if the second example is Z or E. For the viewers: its E configuration :) nice Video!
Love from india ❣️🇮🇳

I love you hhh really 😅🙄
Personally I don't find OH to be very interesting at all, so it's not alcohol.
Those finger snaps made me moist xD
