Lyrics:
Namárië
Ai! laurië lantar lassi súrinen,
yéni únótimë ve rámar aldaron!
Yéni ve lintë yuldar avánier
mi oromardi lisse-miruvóreva
Andúnë pella, Vardo tellumar
nu luini yassen tintilar i eleni
ómaryo airetári-lírinen.
Sí man i yulma nin enquantuva?
Sí man i yulma nin enquantuva?
An sí Tintallë Varda Oiolossëo
ve fanyar máryat Elentári ortanë,
ar ilyë tier undulávë lumbulë;
ar sindanóriello caita mornië
i falmalinnar imbë met, ar hísië
untúpa Calaciryo míri oialë.
Sí vanwa ná, Rómello vanwa, Valimar!
Namárië! Nai hiruvalyë Valimar.
Nai elyë hiruva. Namárië!
English Translation
Ah! like gold fall the leaves in the wind,
long years numberless as the wings of trees!
The years have passed like swift draughts
of the sweet mead in lofty halls beyond the West,
beneath the blue vaults of Varda
wherein the stars tremble in the song of her voice, holy and queenly.
Who now shall refill the cup for me?
For now the Kindler, Varda, the Queen of the Stars,
from Mount Everwhite has uplifted her hands like clouds,
and all paths are drowned deep in shadow;
and out of a grey country darkness
lies on the foaming waves between us,
and mist covers the jewels of Calacirya for ever.
Now lost, lost to those from the East is Valimar!
Farewell! Maybe thou shalt find Valimar.
Maybe even thou shalt find it. Farewell!

Quenya is always nice to see written and heard spoken or sang. As a Finn, it's so obvious how Finnish has influenced it. For example Lassi Surinen sounds like Finnish name, because Lassi actually is and we have multiple surnames and words with -nen suffix, which actually is diminutive form. Also many names, especially of elves and some ainur, are clearly influenced by Kalevala and Finnish, like Iluvatar - Ilmatar, Undomiel - Unto and Mieli etc.

I have forever been scared of Tolkien adaptations not meeting my unrealistic expectations of being exactly like the image in my head, but just like the Peter Jackson films and Howard Shore's music, your renditions are how I eventually end up imagining the definitive music and emotions of the characters. Lovely rendition. It's definitely one of the most moving scenes in the books, and one that shows Galadriel's compassion. Even after such a long life, living through so much of the "long defeat", she still has genuine sympathy and respect for mortals and aids them as best she can.

Beautiful! I am loving the more complex, symphonic direction you're going, with this, and with Aragorn's coronation song. Absolutely fitting for elves with their interweaving harmonies. Also, the lady who sings lead in this has outdone herself, her voice sounds lovely. Obviously she's been practicing, since her voice is getting richer; btw, when my wife first heard her in Boromir's lament, she thought at first she was a boy soprano since her tone was so clear. Here though, she's got much more of a full sound, definitely fitting for Galadriel. Btw, sorry for the commentary, my wife and I are both classical singers, indeed the only thing we regret is not getting the chance to sing with you! but I suspect we're on the wrong continent being in England!

In addition to evoking so much of LOTR and the many triumphs and tragedies of that setting, this also brought to mind the Battle of the Line from Babylon 5, Londo reflecting on it and the President's speech: a people going forth to fight for the survival of even just a few of their species, knowing full well they are going to die. A forlorn hope, and defiance on the face of certain death. This shows the power of music to speak to deeper, more timeless truths, even when we do not know the words.

Great stuff as ever! Thank you! Have you considered "The Voyage of Éarendel the Evening Star" that Tolkien wrote in 1914? It's an Earendil song, but not the "usual" Earendil song: Éarendel arose where the shadow flows at Ocean's silent brim; through the mouth of night as a ray of light where the shores are sheer and dim he launched his bark like a silver spark from the last and lonely sand; then on sunlit breath of day's fiery death he sailed from Westerland. He threaded his path o'er the aftermath of the splendour of the Sun, and wandered far past many a star in his gleaming galleon. On the gathering tide of darkness ride the argosies of the sky, and spangle the night with their sails of light as the streaming star goes by. Unheeding he dips past these twinkling ships, by his wayward spirit whirled on an endless quest through the darkling West o'er the margin of the world; and he fares in haste o'er the jewelled waste and the dusk from whence he came with his heart afire with bright desire and his face in silver flame. The Ship of the Moon from the East comes soon from the Haven of the Sun, whose white gates gleam in the coming beam of the mighty silver one. Lo! with bellying clouds as his vessel's shrouds he weighs anchor down the dark, and on shimmering oars leaves the blazing shores in his argent-timbered bark. Then Éarendel fled from that Shipman dread beyond the dark earth's pale, back under the rim of the Ocean dim, and behind the world set sail; and he heard the mirth of the folk of earth and the falling of their tears, as the world dropped back in a cloudy wrack on its journey down the years. Then he glimmering passed to the starless vast as an isléd lamp at sea, and beyond the ken of mortal men set his lonely errantry, tracking the Sun in his galleon through the pathless firmament, till his light grew old in abysses cold and his eager flame was spent.

Very Beautifull song, small tip for the future: put the english lyrics beside the elven ones, it was very difficult to follow from the description, excellent job!!

Fantastic! This might be too much to ask for, but I would love it if you guys eventually tackled the Lay of Lathien. I consider it to be one of Tolkien 's most beautiful works.
