Klem Loskot's masterpiece, The Bügeleisen Sit Start has long been one of the most coveted boulder problems in the world. Finnish climber Nalle Hukkataival has made several attempts on the line and says, 'it turned out to be the biggest battle I've ever had with a climb, both mentally and physically.' In April 2014, Nalle traveled to Maltatal, Austria for another attempt. In the past, he has been frustrated by the weather and this attempt was to be no exception. Watch him battle rain, humidity, and some incredibly difficult moves for a shot at one of the most difficult and beautiful sends in the world.

The editing in this video was fantastic. I loved the hype music fake-out, then going into the silent footage for the send. Great stuff! Also, Nalle crushes, what a beast

So I just found out where this comes from. I'm probably not allowed to post a link to another video, so that will be another comment, so this one can be posted. The first ascent is done by this guy names Klem Loskot. He has a montage video with the same form as this one, hype music and than the fade-out when the serious attempt happens. Second hit on youtube if you search Bugeleisen! This realization made this video so much more epic!

Incredible climb man! Also, love the editing too. Usually when the techno is flowing you expect the send. Nice little twist. Congrats on the finish!

Ryan Blanchard Yeah, but that is not what happens IRL, now does it? Usually, the hard-worked sends start like another day at the office, followed by disbelief ("wow, I'm already passed the crux, and I'm not even THAT pumped"), ending in total crispation and introspection ("keep calm! breath! remember the top-up sequence..."). The "victory lap" music is usually added in retrospect :)

It´s so ridiculous, that Janja Garnbret send this beast too! And just once, but 2x at the SAME day, just beacause her first recording was not satisfactory. The sport of climbing is undergoing a process of change. Awesome!

is that really V16 equivalent? when i started climbing there was no V scale, but other than a handful of unrepeated Gill and Holloway problems, (as far as i knew) there was barely any "5.13" level (which would be like V7 or V8 I guess)...Midnight Lightning was considered one of the hardest I think, currently called V7 or V8, and for example at Mt. Woodson there were some "5.12+" boulder problems, and at Joshua Tree some stuff in a similar range called "B2" (the ones I know of are currently V7 or V8) but very, very few. The widespread advent of gyms starting in 1990s really caused the ratings to skyrocket. I know there were a few roped 5.13s as far back as the late 70s, but bouldering just wasn't really a thing, and frankly roped ratings are softer and it is kind of easier when you can hangdog or top-rope all day long too. I sent some quite hard stuff on a rope well before I ever bouldered at the same level. These guys are just super-human these days compared to what was going on when I started in the early 80s and I take my hat off to them. Here we see one of the best on one of the hardest...great documentation.
