Nice. Very helpful. I live in Osaka and I didn’t realize I didn’t know how to say “I have to go” formally until the other day when I said to my karate Sensei “ima Shigoto ni ikana akan.... desu ... ?” He had a good chuckle over that one.

The editing of your videos may take a long time but that is making a lot of difference! Watching your videos is very useful to understand well the Japanese grammar but it's also pleasant, because you have a very positive and nice attitude and when you embody students and foreigners it's quite funny to see, so great job, don't give up! And since I'm Italian, when you play the role of Marco it's even funnier :D

You think you know your stuff, and then Miku-sensei gives a more in-depth explanation. I’d rather learn all my japanese from here 0: I understand many professors think, oh you’ll learn on the go, but I think so many of us don’t have the settings to pick up nuances naturally.

@Fucking grass there's a difference between written communication and spoken communication though. Some things may come across as harsher in text (like "I'm fine"), but be totally fine if spoken, especially if you're not fluent in English.

Hmm... the thing is, I'm a native speaker and I always say "I'm fine, thank you"... 🤔 Maybe "I'm fine, thanks" or "I'm fine, thanks for asking" sometimes. But I'm from the midwest US, so maybe we are just all weird there 🤨 All the same, I get your point, and I've often struggled with this exact point during my years in Japan. So this video is very useful to me. Thanks!

I have always wondered why do they keep teaching us foreigners some rigid grammar formulas that makes us look weird when we try to use with in daily conversation. For me, someone shy and sometimes insecure is a BIG barrier, I rather say nothing than sound like a robot. Not to mention, most used text books always teach Japanese used in Tokyo, NEVER Kansai Ben. I’m currently living in Kobe, and of course no one has ever said to me “nakerebanarimasen” A couple of years ago I was attending a Japanese school here in Kobe (textbook was 皆んなの日本語), then go back to my home stay family and of course NOTHING made sense. I’ve learned more just listening than filling up a textbook.
