Professional decks like Revox B215, Tandberg 3014A, Marantz SD9000, etc. don't use doors to ensure tape alignment is not affected. If you open and close that door 40 times with same tape, you'll see the azimuth adjustment will be required.

Loved my 680ZX. Even the 'Half speed' was impressive for party mixes. Supported it with my DBX 224 and DBX 3BX.

I've heard here in youtube half speed and if you don't know it the quality is so good that you don't even realize it

@@Badassvidsz you on youtube are only listening to the video camera sound and then compressed by youtube this a very good deck but at half speed it sounds diferent and to keep above others you have to use standart speed ,this deck for it´s age is incredible good there were just a few from the same year that would meet this one´s quality, but the price when new was incredible high ,you could by a components system with good quality ,only with this deck money, i once sold a nakamichi (from late 70´s)deck just to buy a used bmw the model was a late 76 645i but in perfect condition , regards

If engaged, please turn off the MPX filter, as it cuts off high freq. Used for some radio recordings, so no need at all for other recordings. Ah! On a bigger picture I noticed it's thankfully off ;) Nice deck. Thanks for sharing. Cheers.

Forgive the nooB question but what’s the DBX unit on the top doing here? Is that a preamp of sorts? IE Does the output of the Nak go through the dbx before hitting the main amp or speakers?

Great deck but I'm glad they got rid of the screws for calibration on later models.

Всё больше наворотов шумоподавления, так и умер аналоговый звук, перейдя в цифровую обработку. Не очень удобно подстраивать BIAS отвёрткой. Наверное, предполагалось, что меломан сразу купит коробок 5-10 одинаковых кассет из одной партии и будет только их записывать.

Nak 680ZX with metal tapes using dbx NR is probably as good as it gets for analog technology.

very close, but reel to reels are superior in terms of noise and sound stage! I have 7 top of the line Nakamichis, but none can match my Tandberg TD-20A or my Pioneer RT-707!

@@tomzielinski9506 basic physics and common sense tells me that a high quality Reel to Reel is superior (thicker tape and higher speed), especially high quality decks as I mentioned before. Cassette decks sound amazing for their slow speed, but in no way they can match a real to reel noise floor, detail and musicality at 7 1/2 IPS. I even have cassette decks that have 2-speeds like the Teac C-3x, BIC T-3 and BIC T-4M. at high speed the cassette sounds very good, at a normal speed just good enough. Watch my videos, I have a total of 25 high-end cassette decks (and buying more) and 7 of those are Nakamichis, which push the cassette media to the limit, but in no way a cassette deck played on a high end stereo system compare to a reel-to reel, especially a good Pioneer, Tandberg, Revox, Teac, Sony or Akai! A high-end stereo system and speakers willl always reveal all the weaknesses of a recording, which an average stereo system will not!

@@tomzielinski9506 Ok ;)) As a kid I always drooled loking at catalogs with cassette decks and now that I can afford them, I can't have enough of them. I repair them and change the belts, idler tires and pinch rollers. From my collection my best sounding decks are the: Harman Kardon CD-491, Nakamichi CR-5A, Nakamichi LX-5, NAD 6300, Aiwa AD-F770, Onkyo Integra TD-2058, Nakamichi 670ZX, BIC T-4M, Nakamichi CD 1 and Nakamichi RX-505! All my best recording at a normal speed are made in order of preference: on my Aiwa AD-F770, Harman Kardon CD-491, Nakamichi CR-5A or my Nakamichi LX-5.

Sounds like something is out of phase. Compare this sound to the original track or even the same track on KZread.
