They either had the choice of omitting the entire Gay angle of the original, and anger most fans, or embracing it and making it over the top. Sure, most of the events have been changed between the original and the Remake, but they kinda had to. The original gay scenes were overly offensive and in bad taste, the Remake just makes everything fun and comical.

It works so well because of the deadpan execution. To Cloud, it’s just a means to getting the job done.

Second best line in the game. The only one better was Aerith saying "shit" before she narrowly escaped falling to her death.

Bro the animators did a really good job at showing Cloud’s thoughts rush through his head with just a few eye movements. It’s like he was reminded he was still dressed that way, a little peek of embarrassment, then covers it up with acting annoyed/defensive. 💀

I generally disagree. The animation isn't _bad_ but it's nothing special or remarkable in any way whatsoever in my opinion. All sorts of lines would fit fine given the more general context (but still ignoring the clothing context). I don't _expect_ anything better, but it didn't really show an especially recognizable emotion, that was probably more due to one's brain filling in the gaps and/or audio(?). I guess my statement doubly makes sense too, since the Japanese line was very different, and they wouldn't have used a different animation for it (aside from the mouth).

Such a clever way to stay in character while still acknowledging the absurdity of the situation. He's clearly embarrassed and doesn't want to talk about it but it's not something you can just ignore and act like you're unaware of so he just immediately ends the conversation by taking her reaction as a compliment and moving on. Brilliant.

What’s wild is that whichever dress Tifa ends up wearing is what she was gonna wear on y’alls date from a few chapters prior. You gotta do all the jobs in Chapter 3 and then Tifa will ask your opinion on what to wear for the date. You got Mature - Sporty - Exotic, each one correlates to a dress. @@TheMOReviewers Most likely the story going all "Nomura bullshit," especially towards the end. As much as I loved this game, the whole "arbiters of destiny" stuff did make me roll my eyes a bit. Also the fact they shoehorned Sephiroth in to ever single possible scene, kinda ruining a lot of the suspense as his appearances stop being surprising and just turn into "oh hey is Sephiroth and the ghost thingies again, guess we're doing this now." I'm not saying I wanted a 1:1 remake of the original but I did at least expect the story to be coherent, though I guess I'll have to see how it all unfolds before making a judgement. Edit: Forgot to mention they also can't seem to let chapters ever die, retcon-ing the deaths of FOUR major characters _and_ having a fake-out death as well. Kinda kills a bit of the tension when you realise none of the characters are ever going to be in any real danger. Edit 2: I'm not blaming Nomura for any of this. I think he's a fantastic director and, as people have pointed out, he didn't even write this game. By "Nomura bullshit" I more so meant "Kingdom Hearts bullshit." Don't get me wrong, I love a good bit of that, but for ff7 remake it just felt a bit much to me.

I do love the fact that Tifa was genuinely fooled for all that time. She is actually the more naive of the two girls, even though she looks like she would be the more worldly wise one. This also translates into Aerith being amused and delighted by Clouds cross dressing, and Tifa being shocked by it.

Amused and delighted nothing. In the original, SHE was the one who thought of it, and was fucking giggling to herself at the idea before Cloud had to ask what was up. Aerith is dirty-minded AF, and I adore that subversion. Looks like a dainty princess, is a goddamn gremlin. You could draw her prodding people with her staff with a wide smug mischievous grin on her face, and that would not at all be out of character.

I think it's because later protagonists all tried so hard to be that brooding character people thought Cloud was (Notably Squall and Lightning), and so they realized it'd be redundant if Cloud himself was still like that.

He sounds so done with everything I love it.

I was so scared they'd cut this arc out of the game or somehow mess it up but they did an AMAZING job bringing it to life! Was so happy with what they did!

I wondered why this game took so long in development, then I played through this entire section and I fully undertood why.

I like that no one makes fun or bigoted against Cloud in a dress. To the people watching the performance, they were celebrating and having a good time, to strangers he looked beautiful (even if they thought he was a she) and Tifa and Aerith are just amazed he could pull it off. Even the Don doesn't care!

I hope there's a deep dive into the remake of just this section. It was priceless back then and they nailed it again here.

Ever since FF13 released, it's been pointed out how similar Cloud and Lightning's faces are. She stole the looks from him and now he reclaims the throne. It only makes sense that they both look beautiful 😌

This is probably my favorite line from the entire game. I howled with laughter the first time I watched this.

No matter what dresses y’all choice for each character, Cloud will look the best in all dresses. Best girl, and Aerith and Tifa already know.

I can't help but notice that there is a rather subtle squish when Tifa puts her arms closer together. That's some attention to detail that no doubt had a whole team behind it.

i mean, if Im not wrong it depends on the effort the player puts in it, i think? At least in the original, you needed to do a lot of minigames and stuff to get the woman disguise, and if you did badly Cloud ended up in an ugly dress that made it obvious he was a guy trying to dress as a woman.

@@erintesden the remake has Cloud participate in a dazzling performance (although he looks grumpy lol) and the guy who gives him a makeover tells him "beauty surpasses gender" and I find that surprisingly touching and poignant. They dodged the "man in a dress" thing beautifully, is what I'm trying to say 😅 they could've axed the whole thing but they remade it into something quite lovely.

@@sillycookie I wouldn’t really say beauty surpasses gender though, men and women look better when they embrace their gender, when they cross dress they usually don’t look very attractive, and a majority of people would agree with that because most people aren’t gay. And whenever someone who isn’t gay says that they are beautiful, they’re lying because they have no attraction whatsoever to it, therefore they can’t say whether or not it’s beautiful

I've known women who truly look uncomfortable and unappealing in traditional feminine dress but look stunning in suits. I've seen men that look hideous in traditional masculine colors but clean up nice in pink. Obviously some people can't pull off the other look well, but it varies between person and person. I'm not into dudes much (Unless you're super androg), so obviously I'm not physically attracted to Ryan Reynolds, but he is objectively a beautiful man. You can acknowledge someone as good-looking without being attracted to them. It's actually a little messed up and reveals your own weird assumptions that you truly think it's impossible for someone to be beautiful if you cannot be attracted to them. And finally, gonna get cheesy here for a second, but true beauty is on the inside. I've known men and women that are as "hot" as they come, but I would never call "beautiful" because they're pieces of shit on the inside. Meanwhile the woman I love is someone who a lot of people wouldn't call particularly "sexy", but she is the kindest, funniest, most amazing person I know and I get lost in her beauty every time I see her. Which then of course, makes her sexier by extension.

I never played final fantasy so I thought this was a mod. Then I died when she acknowledged the dress
