The difference between mainland india and NE is that, how happy they are to see you and make you feel like home. You'll find people taking advantage of the language barrier in mainland india by abusing you and mocking you with the language you don't understand.

Kohima is definitely underrated...while the rest of India know about Shillong and Gangtok, Kohima's pristine landscapes, Naga heritage,cuisines, exotic flowers, romantic weather, cute people with amazing fashion sense ...I've rarely come across travellers who have had regret coming here....another underrated place in NE is Arunachal Pradesh so much unexplored but too much to offer!
