Most of the dogs are smuggled from other parts of NE especially Assam and illegally transported into Nagaland. Some of the dogs used to be pet dogs who are given some kind of sadative mixed in food by some illegal traders and then caught and transported into Nagaland as killing of Dogs is illegal in Assam. Lots of people were arrested by police in recent years involved in this trade. I request the people of Assam and other parts of NE to keep their pet dogs under strict supervision especially before festivals like Hornbill in Nagaland as the demand for dog meat is high during these periods. And if anyone sees any suspicious activity involving dogs to immediately intervene and inform the police. I would also request people to boycott the festivals of Nagaland.

dogs are a species that have been in relation to humans for centuries......even our nomadic forefathers didn't eat dogs as they were companions......it's that long history the reason why dogs trust humans that much and are loyal....as its in there gene.......people that don't know ...dogs were never a breed to begin with...... they got evolved from wolfs during the prehistoric era by selective breeding ..... dogs are considered to be the first time human took evolution into there hands......u can still find wolf dogs that will look like dogs but are much more fierce and don't trust humans at all.....and they cannot be tamed as their natural instinct prevents them from trusting humans.... Why dog eating culture was made can u give me ur perspective......

I am from Uttar Pradesh and I'm pure Hindu so I'm vegetarian. But I don't judge others people culture. Let them eat or do what they want and stop judging them. Nagaland is a beautiful state of India

There's a sentimental history behind every story. I think one cannot learn about an entire tribe/ culture/ place in just few minutes. Dog meat is eaten in few places, like Nagaland (India) , Vietnam, Korea... actually it's even popular. With changing sentiments of people, it may cease though. Culinary matters are private, let's not judge. Nagas are some of the nicest and simplest people 😀

Kuki, Naga, Dimasas, Khasi, Bodos... better to respect the good in each community and peacefully coexist 🙏

Even when we have so much options in vegetables and variety plus transporting veggies from one place to another is so easy now still people eat meat just for their taste buds which i think is not tradition but it is your desire .In old times people used to eat what was locally available and grown because transporting something was not an option or was difficult and expensive .

being a dog parent, it broke my heart. When i visited Nagaland this August, my experience wasn't that good. My heart dropped when i saw those dogs in the vehicle delivering for meat market. Whole day i was thinking about them and even i felt people are not welcoming. When i asked the address in Hindi, Assamese and English they just don't respond at all, didn't find their hospitality great also.

I live in the United States. My friend is from Philippines. Her parents, older generation still eat dog meat, the current generation does not. I think slowly folks from Nagaland may also stop consuming dog meat. No need to deride them though , some cultures do eat dog meat , but with every passing generation ,it’s becoming less.

Listen people all over India eat eggs and chickens and goats and there are people don't eat also. I'm bengali and I can't eat fish, I also don't like mutton. People each have their own choice of food. There are indian people who are vegetarians, to them we aren't much different, and it doesn't make you a bad person.
