This is a door tray repair video for NAD 523 CD player. A lots of people trashed out their CD players just because the tray door won't open. Fortunately, I found a way to save it and I am very impressed with the sound quality of this CD player. Please see my updated video for details of tray removal and final door opening operation at: • NAD 523 Belt Replaceme...

Thanks for the video, i went straight to the tray drive belt on mine, but still the tray was jamming. There is a gear train driven by this belt, after patiently removing the tray, i was able to free them up. all good now.

Because I got this CD player free, so I don't want to pay a lot for the belt. In fact, I bought the replacement from eBay. The item title call "2020 repair 60pcs 40-130mm mix cassette tape machine square belt assorted". I just selected one (the closest size) from whole package to replace it and it works.

hello friend, I'm about to buy exactly this cd player, what is the number / model of this optical player? Do you usually have reading problems? could you give me your opinion on this device?

The optical pic-up assembly is KSS210B (from MFR's part list). I looked up my unit which is labeled as KSM2101BDM ( the laser pick-up with motor chassis assembly). My 523 doesn't have any reading problem when playing the pre-recorded CD or home-recorded CD. So far, I owned few multi disc CD players including Yamaha (2) and Sony (3). I still play my NAD 523 a lots. It is very quite when it is playing. Although it make some noise when changing discs, but I don't think it is worse than my other CD players. Smooth high, tight bass, good sound stage and image. My impression of NAD 523 is very positive.

@@emersonferreira7851 You're welcome. I just uploaded a complementary video explaining how to remove the door tray for the belt replacement. Also I included an operational and listening test (jazz/vocal and classical music) at the end of the video if you are interested. Thanks.

How do you hook it up

The belt can be replaced without removing the drawer tray out as I showed in the video. It may take a little time but you don't have to remove the face panel and unplug wiring cables. I also can send you a video which explain how to remove the front face panel and expose the drawer open/close motor drive assembly which includes the belt.

In fact, it is pretty quite during playing CD. But it makes noise when changing the discs. Overall, the sound quality is not bad. These multi CD players always have problems mechanically.

Since your belt is still in one piece, try boiling it in water for 15-30 min in a microwave.

I did try it with your suggestion. It works but still a little bit sluggish. With the restoring belt, it opens tray without problems, but it needs push when closing the tray sometime. I only boiled it for 15 minutes just for experiment.

@@VintageAudioFan Try boiling a little longer, up to the 30 minutes. I was told to do this by a former technician that repaired video equipment at a television station. This method usually restored the belts.
