NAA Mini Master .22 Magnum Revolver

Ойын-сауық

Enough said. One gets a great carry with the purchase of the North American Arms Mini Master pocket revolver chambered in the .22 Winchester Magnum Rimfire (WMR). It is a platform built specifically around its caliber that just makes sense. If you're in the market, look further into the options available to fit your certain CCW paradigm.

I think .22 Magnum should be enough to cause someone to re-evaluate their choices in life! This was a fun review, I've seen these things but never really seriously thought about it, even though they do have kind of a look. Meanwhile I have a 22 wmr full size revolver that I've never shot, and I'm thinking about it now!

Nice review, I went through the same though process but ended up with the NAA Black Widow due to easier carry and concealment. Absolutely love this little gun! Even though Black Widow's disadvantage in barrel length I still get 3" groups at 5 yards which is the usual range of use of something like this. The 22 Mag even with the short barrel travels supersonic and with Hornady and good placement I'm confident in its letality. I just regret not getting the combo 22LR/22 Mag as that would have save me a lot of $$$. Practice with cheap 22LR and save the expensive 22 Mags for personal defense. Overall I'm extremely happy with my Black Widow and whenever I pull it out in the range everyone wants to see it and want to know more about it.

Great video that reflects my own thoughts about "carrying" in today's world. There is world filled with wanna-be "operators" who think they'll become "cool" by going around strapped with a high-dollar, sub-compact, complete with rack of spare mags, and of course their "permission slip" from the government, but for all practical purposes, these little mini-revolvers are, and have for a long time, been, closer to the ideal carry solution for a great many reasons. I own just about one of every kind of handgun, but huge and small, all calibers, and often carry "something" whenever I go out. However, I've noticed over the last 40 years, that after the "new" of being all CQB-strapped-ready wears off, one's primary concern for carry is what is convenient, easy, and appropriate to the potential for use, which is to say for most of us, not very likely! The result of this reality is that more often than not I carry a simple S&W M-642 in a front pocket, or, even "lamer" (by commando wannabe standards), an S&W M43-C 8-shot .22 LR which weighs a mere 11 ounces! Few people are comfortable with being shot by ANYTHING, and generally speaking, when a gun starts barking, most people duck and run if they're not taken down immediately, regardless of what caliber, brand, style, or model firearm is being used. I've owned a NAA mini .22 magnum with 1-5/8" barrel for probably 35 years now. I've probably carried it more than any other gun for the simple fact that it weighs 6 ounces, holds 5 shots of .22 magnum which is "superior" to the .22LR primarily with respect to reliable ignition, and honest-to-goodness, real, jacketed bullets. From a short barrel it's still going to beat the .22 LR by some amount, and as with all .22's, when traversing the inner confines of a human body, the bullets can be highly destructive resulting in surprising "stopping power" far out of proportion with what the product insert would have you believe. I like your choice...it's a choice I've been looking at myself of late because I really like the NAA Sidewinder, which I can only get here in CA with the longer barrel so as to not come under the Roster, but in looking at the longer barrel model, like you, I realize that bulk is the biggest obstacle to carry, not barrel length, and in fact, a long, slender NAA revolver carries very well inside a waistband, plus has excellent pointing characteristics, and adequate power to do the job.

We'll spoken. This is the first comment that encapsulates my whole thinking on cc. I got a chuckle out of the wanna be operator comments. JSOC operators have millions of dollars in training and support, get up at odd hours and train, train, train. It's a high tempo life. It's goes way deeper than cool gear.

That longer barrel is not only a accuracy point, the .22 mag is CONSIDERABLY more quick when it has the run though in a longer barrel as does any round. FPS and twist matters. LOL

enjoyed your video and agree with you regarding getting as much velocity from the mag cartridge using the 4" mini master vs the 1" barrel. also, the built up barrel will provide better harmonics with less barrel flexing than a simple unbuilt up barrel. happy and safe shooting.

Fun, accurate video. Seven years later, everything he said still holds true. His comment about the size to caliber hit home. I once owned the Smith 617. Wonderful, accurate pistol but the little pop versus the five pound weight made me laugh every time i fired it. I had owned a Dan Wesson 357 before that and sold it. Worse decision ever but oh well. I sold the 617 with no regret and later on bought an old H&R jamtastic 22 revolver which I immediately got rid of and then years later bought a Ruger Wrangler which I still have. Great pistols, still a little over built but not near as massive as the 617. I am looking for the classic blued 22 Smith revolver but they are going for $800 right now. Ouch. This little long barrel NAA hits a perfect size balance. And those complaining about speed of reloading. Duh,you got an extra cylinder. Just carry that too. I don't see this as a defense weapon. I see this as a vermin killer ( snake shot ) or perhaps a hit animal in the road dispatcher. And a really fun range toy . A very well built range toy. The NAA just strikes me as the pocket knife of revolvers. There when you need it, out of the way, right next to you when you don't. Unlike the massive 617. The 22 mag looks to be a fun caliber. I might also try a Heritage revolver , three inch barrel model too.Life is too short to just have one 22 long rifle / 22 mag revolver.

Excellent presentation, Sgt. Johnny! I am a big fan of the .22 WMR. I'm also a USMC rifle expert/pistol sharpshooter. (Those clunky old Colt 1911s back in the 70s gave me a bit trouble!) OOOrah, Jarhead! I have an assortment of 22WMRS, in both rifle and pistol format, and love them all. Yeah, it's a rimfire, and every once in awhile, one doesn't go off; Rechamber, and Carry On! Saw this review and noticed that on the NAA website they show velocity of various ammo. I was suprised that they list the Black Widow 22 WMR velocity with CCI Maxi-Mag as a mean velocity of 988, but they show the longer barrel MiniMaster as only 972 mean velocity with the same ammo. I would have expected the Mini-Master to do quite a bit better.

Kinda lost interest although I believe guns can be sent to the factory to work on such problems. Also have a little Freedom Arms .22LR gun which is a challenge to hit even a close range target. I wonder if the Ruger Bearcat comes in .22 WMR yet? I know there is some gunsmith that converts that gun into .327 Fed Mag - that would be cool.

I carry more on road trips and out in the woods. If I ever thought I might need more, why would I bother going out in the first place? My security concerns are road rage, Walmart, road trips, and auto breakdowns in rural areas. Not shoot outs at the ok corral. If I’m not shoving it in my pants, I’m going with a 9 or a 45. Otherwise, I like the pug.

It's neat but it kinda makes me laugh because it's a perfect example of "mission creep," the same phenomenon that makes compact model cars get more and more bloated with features until they redesign it and keep making it bigger each generation until it's no longer a compact car and they have to come up with a new compact model to replace it. While this gun is essentially the same as my basic mini-mag, which I could conceal anywhere if I had to, this gun has, through the almost full-sized grip and long barrel, picked up the overall dimensions of any of a number of "real" .22 revolvers, and doesn't seem to really offer anything as far as ultra-concealability, which was the whole idea in the first place. That said, I do like it, looks like it would be nice and tame and fun to fire. Have you seen the ones that look like an old (1858) Remington revolver? Octagonal barrels, old west style grips. That's interesting too.

Actually, the CA Roster doesn't apply to the revolver exhibited in this video. ALL single-action revolvers that have a barrel longer than 3", an overall length of 7.5", and carry at least 5-shots, are "legal" for purchase in California. The only reason to get one Roster certified it to have the shorter barrels and shorter overall lengths, of which, there are TWO on the roster. One in .22 LR, one in .22 Magnum. NAA would have to pay a fee an submit a test-example for each model they wanted to sell here. I like the Sidewinder models which are not on the Roster, however, they can be had by choosing a longer barrel with appropriate overall length, then, if desired, shorten the barrel once you take possession.

i hear you about the benefits of this model. but i disagree with your assessment of j frames. a S&W 351c is a 7 shot 22 mag not a 5 or 6. that pistol weighs 13-15 oz, and s&w 340 pd and 360 pd's are 5 shot 357 magnums that weigh about 11 oz. m&p 340 and 360's are also 5 shot 357 magnums that weigh about 13.5 oz. they are not overbuilt and if anything completely trump this pistol in the caliber to weight dept. even in 22 mag the s&w has a 2 shot advantage, DA/SA choice and faster consecutive shots, and faster reloading. I think NAA mini's with long barrels are just a cool novelty item and in their style they are very cool guns. i plan on buying an earl or sheriff to complement my larger single action ruger flattop blackhawk. my 2c

Happy Camperi see what your saying, but for the sake of the discussion, I point out that Ruger doesn't even make a WMR option even though the cylinder is large enough on the aforementioned model to accept it (they won't do it because then they would have to retool due to the WMY shell Dia). Also, the SP weighs more and is larger than say the S&W J frame so again, it is way too much gun for what it is, at least that is my take on it. To each their own, of course.

  • @happycamper9300

    @happycamper9300

Johnny thanks for take your time to go on with the discussion. I get your point and its a shame that ruger do not make the sp101 on 22 WMR, even when they already make an 8 round 22. I took my time and check the gun weight, the SP101 weight between 26 and 30 oz depending on caliber and barrel length, and as you mentioned it is a little more that the S&W j frame that are about 23 oz. The minimaster weight only 10 oz, and as you stated ti carry with you is way better to have a 11 oz gun than a 26 oz if both are 5 shots, that at the end of the day it what counts in a defense situation. But that the reason I mentioned the different applications. For example the minimaster is mainly a small backup gun, the SP is heavy as it to shot the heavier .357. I like both, The MM s a good fun gun and very portable. The SP in 327 with 4.2 inch barrel is great for camping and hiking.

Damn that's crazy. I love the way Dan Wesson revolvers look. They are amazing revolvers at that. Also I get the need for a smaller gun but why did it have to be 22 mag when they make reliable 380s that are more effective, more capacity just as light. I carried a lcp for the same reason forever. I ended up getting a sw 340pd and while back to fill this role and it as well fits perfect. I don't use 357 mag out of it because of the short barrel and the weight makes recoil brutal but it's a nice option if I'm hiking. I use 38spl+p or just plain 148 gr full wadcutters and they are actually fun to shoot.

Good gun PHILOSOPHY and ideas. Some firearms are too much over built for the rimfires. Unless you need large grips , and added weight for your size. We are blessed in USA, with our selection of all products. Big gun small caliber or small gun big caliber. Isn't it great? Thanks.

.22's can kill, and most calibers can stop a threat. But why a rimfire? That's my main question here. A SA rimfire with 5 rounds at that. If you want reliability you can pick up a .32 revolver that's still in the realm of pocket carry without going down to rimfire.

I understand that modern military guys have the F bomb vocabulary as part of life. You might be conscientious of fathers who are watching videos with younger family members. My dad, a sergeant in the Korean War told me that the guys of his time were more careful about their language in public. I never heard him or my tough cowboy granddad use one F bomb while they survived and I appreciated that respect. As a gun collector, builder and inventor, I appreciate another person's review and perspective of firearms. That is valuable. Please consider cooling down the descriptive vocabulary for the public.. and thanks for the efforts in posting your video.

I think these cost too much for what they are, so when i find one that is extreme discounted or I happen to acquire one, say from someone that just shit their pant's when they pulled it on me and then dropped it when they realized my 5 shots an old .44 that also fits in my pocket, I will pick one up. but just for fun. I have to say though, digging the fact there is any videos at all on this one, your Thumb man! wtf are you doing? revolvers blast out the sides on the front of the cylinder, do not ever hold your fingers in the line of that, You will regret it someday . i have seen some GNASTY incidents. check out some you tube vids on that! Jeazus. I like the magnums , I like them even better when the price is lower , the price you showed for those CCi have come down considerably. My .22 collection needs one of these I think. That longer 4" ( Canadian Legal ) would be really kind of cool to have, looks like it could drop right down in the front jean pocket on the side and easy be concealed. or in a mocked up knife case. That would be kind of awesome. Watch your fingers dude. any of my revolvers would burn the shit out of my skin if I fired it that way and some would probably draw blood. Put a piece of paper over that area and fire it and see what happens. Thanks for the video, good job.

I carry either 200 gr gold dots or underwood 190 lead semi wadcutter hollow points in it. 44 spl it definitely a under rated round.
