On a cloudy autumn day, the sole survivor of the Norfolk and Western's "J Class" steam locomotive moves again on the high iron for the first time since its 2017 excursion season ended in June. The 611 was on its way from the Virginia Museum of Transportation in Roanoke, Virginia bound for the North Carolina Transportation Museum in Spencer, North Carolina so that maintenance work can be done at their roundhouse during the winter.
Despite the fact the 611 was pulling a small train, it still put on a good show. Watch as we capture it at various spots along Norfolk Southern's former Southern Railway mainline between Hurt, VA and Browns Summit, NC.
