N-SSA Spring Civil War Shooting Competition: Muskets, Carbines, Repeaters
Ойын-сауық
Join me and my friend Rob as we attend the annual shooting competition held at Fort Shenandoah, Winchester Virginia by the North-South Skirmish Association. This is an organization that boasts members from all over the country and have been around for about 70 years. They shoot original (and some replicas) Civil War era muskets, carbines, cannons, mortars and more. This is a three day event and I broke the videos down into one for each day. I hope you enjoy. It's free and open to the public.

The stores were not boring, they were really cool. I loved seeing all the relics and seeing some of the same type of what you pull out of the river too😊😊
I used to do this back in the mid 70s / early 80s. Big time fun!
Thanks again Beau. Awsome to watch.
Great video, I used to shoot there myself few years back, for The First Richmond Rifles. Few of my family still are on the team. Thanks Again
that's where the reenactments really started to take place...they kinda got it going
Thank you for these video I use to go there when I was younger with my family from new York and this just brings back so many memories
Thank you for taking us along...very cool
Thanks Chigg
Looks like a lot of fun.
That was really something to see, Thank you very much!, Gary in Oregon
Hi there. Wow this brings back memories. I was a member of the 3rd Ga. Light Infantry for about 6 years. I shot a 58 cal. Richard 2 band at both the Spring and Fall Nationals. Now I just look for 3 ringers. S.C. Clodbuster
Chigg, that was a very cool video. I would love to spend a weekend watching them. I used to shoot small bore 22 long rifle competition. On a Jr NRA team. My Dad taught the team and my brothers and I were the best shooters around. (Not bragging) lol From the age 8 to 19. It was always a great shooting match for our team. When we arrived at a match. Some teams would pack up and go home before the match even began. I guess they thought we would out shoot them. Our team and each of us was in our local paper a lot for winning trophies. Of course shooting a musket is a little different and even today at 57, I would love to learn to shoot a musket. Maybe I'll get to that. Adding it to the bucket list. Thanks for the great video!
Hey if enjoy reenactment style stuff there is an event every year at Legare Farms in John's Island, SC. They have Pirates/ Colonial Period, Civil War, WWII, and Korea (some years even Vietnam). Best part is the Flamethrower. It's pretty small and not very well known. It's called the Battle of Charleston Reenactment.
Gonna have to put that on my bucket list. Well done Chigg. You showed the lethality of firearm technology as it went from smoothbore to metal cartridge rifles.
Looks like fun.
can't wait for the cannon video!!
Rate of fire is a game changer, go to Aberdeen PG and witness the demonstration live. You would enjoy.
the chigg for president!!
9th Va Calvary is the team my dad used to shoot on down there. i havw plenty of bb gun competition medals from down there. Hope you enjoyed it
Man, this is like a half hour drive from my house! Maybe next time I'll check it out!
yes look cool to me and fun.
Congrats on 750k!
I had a pair of Mork rainbow suspenders in the 80s.
Good Stuff! Nice haircut!

8 HOLY CRAP AMAZING VIDEO BUT THIS IS THE EARLYEST I'VE EVER BEEN FOR A FAMOUS KZreadR!!!!!!!!
Dude can't believe you were there. Wish I had seen you. I will actually be going back this weekend for the Cockade Skirmish.
Hi Aqua, my great great grandad James Carter born and raised in Canada. He was just 17-18 years old when he immigrated from Canada to the United States just to join the Union Army and fight in the American Civil War 1861-1865. He enlisted in the Wisconsin Infantry Company D, 50th Regiment. The 50th Regiment, Company D of the Wisconsin Infantry. Organized at Madison, Wisconsin and mustered into Federal service between March and April 1865. The regiment was mustered out between April 19 and June 12, 1866. The 50th Wisconsin suffered 1 enlisted man killed in action and 1 officer and 43 enlisted men who died of disease, for a total of 45 fatalities.

Chigg looks younger coz he is surrounded by older dudes.
Cool video.
Now we see why thousands died in one battle. I couldn't even imagine facing that amount of lead. No doubt if you survived the lead, you would go deaf from the sound and die of lung disease from the smoke later. Thanks for yet another interesting video.
As a photographer, I love to photograph reenactments. Participants are very willing to talk to you and have their photo taken. Lots of opportunities around Atlanta!
Made me chuckle, In the UK we call "suspenders", "braces". Suspenders are thought of as ladies sexy underware to hold up their stockings. 😀
1st!! Awesome vids Chigg!!
like the new do!!!
it's a warzone out there Chigg...
id like to see the shopping!!!
Another outstanding video, sir. We just never know what you are gonna get into next.
Chigg you should come to Indiana to the feast of the hunters moon, its in October .
Maybe next time you could do a video showing the big gun ammo, Shells. And the cannon that fires them. Compare a vintage found shell to a modern replica and the artillery that fires it.
I love that some of them were dressed the part.

+Michael Davis lol, I'm sure they have made in china on the back of the new ones. if not, they could carbon date it or something.

I'm surprised that there hasn't been more effort from travel agencies to put together historical package tours for people outside the US that want to come here and experience events like this.

Well I've known many people who do Viking and Saxon reenacments. Hastings regularly reenacts the battle with 3000+ 'Reenactors'. They make their own chain mail, swords even shoes to fit the period and train in sword fighting. The use of guns is problematic here in the UK though. But this was not a reenactment, it was a shooting competition with wonderful period weapons.

Yeah, I wish they would come to California too; I'd join!
Chigg, I suppose you have nothing to do with the advertisements that come with your vids. The one I just witnessed was for Purple Mattress Protector. It was about a family of Big Foots! 3:43 worth of selling. It was so darned entertaining I watched the whole thing! In my younger days I enjoyed shooting black powder. I had a Remington 1860 pistol and a Sprinfield 1873 Trapdoor, with that I shot a lot of Spanish American war era surplus ammo. One in 10 would misfire. that was about 1961 or so.
I love it chig, show me more. fascinating to an Texas girl
Did anyone there even recognize the Chig? I have watched a lot of detecting videos and when you consider the length of time you have been detecting/recovering and preserving the history from this era. I would think they should be asking you to show some of your finds. #theyhavenoideawhoyouare
Makes me nervous to see someone reload a musket right after shooting! Any other black powder guys agree?
Glad my name isn't Will...
civil war belt buckles are only worth 9 dollars?
war was a bloody see a mans ryrs before he died thing back then.
hello
Richmond 2 band
Heyyy! Do you follow sports?
hay up bo how are you
After watching this I think most of the people killed in the civil war were killed by a freak accident. These poor bastards could not hit the side of a barn if they were standing inside of it .
it's hard to believe with all them guns no one died that goes to show guns don't kill people!!!!!!!!
Wait, I'm confused. You showed all the belt buckles in the shop, but you said the soldiers wore suspenders?

The waist belts in the civil war were for the percussion cap box, and something else.

Suspenders were for the pants. Buckles for the equipment belts.
By the way...most of these guys are more original than reenacters and dislike being associated with such.
Didn't want to offend anyone just my personal opinion like I said if it floats your boat that's fine we all have a right to our own opinion
Even in renactment/play, war is darned ugly.
And the smell of rotten egg lingers in the air......from the gun powder
Was all that stuff in the store real or was it reproductions? If it was real some of it seemed really really cheap. I thought it be worth a lot of money?
EARTH 😇 ANGEL DON' T know anything about guns, really, only sold two in my life many years ago at BRIMFIELD, a cap and ball percussion, ( don't even know if that's the correct description) and I believe the other to be a Smith and Wesson; I had a permanent booth there at the time and a dealer asked me to try to sell them, I did, know they brought in good money at the time.🤔👍
