I went to an event in Ohio many years ago as a youngster with my mother. I remember it being a very welcoming, friendly group of people. I learned alot about my Armi Sport and one gentleman was kind enough to give me a large coffee can of cast Minie rounds. I wish I could join at some point, such a great group!

This was only one of the many team matches that are held during Nationals. Sunday are the musket team matches. You will see many unit flags as we gather for opening ceremonies. Most units have their flags on display at their camp sites. There is very little PC in the N-SSA!

My favorite part of this video is at 0:26 when he finishes loading and flips the rifle over. It's like, "Show time!" :)

There used to be: It was called the Civil War Skirmish Assn. Unfortunately, it remained in existence for only a year or so, as I recall. There had been some correspondence about holding an "East-Meets-West" event somewhere (perhaps the NRA National Range) but sadly, it never came to fruition.

I want to go so bad. I miss reenacting. I had a ancestor in the 4th North Carolina Infantry he was a sharpshooter.

I was in the N-SSA over ten years, and really miss it; the camp life, the friendships, the shooting, even the sutlers! Anyone need Yankee infantry? I might just get involved again. Maybe one of those newer sites at the far end of Area 4, in the mud :).

@@TheDuckcarver Did you ever see the older photos in the Historical Bldg., of the time most of Area 4 flooded (I think it was a lot of rain combined with an early Spring thaw), and all the small RVs floated downstream and collected in a big mass?

I suppose that I'm dating myself but I competed at the first Home Skirmish in 1963. First 20 years was with the 79th NY Cameron Highlanders. We camped on the hill above Minieball Pond. Most the last 20 years years has been with the 2nd NJ Inf., next to the Rev. Range Bridge. We always carry hip waders...a valuable asset...just in case:)

@@TheDuckcarver Good for you, Jerry, quite the long skirmishing time you've had! I only started with a Mid-Atlantic region unit in 1998, but after ten years or so, things weren't going well, and sadly, I left. I really miss Ft. Shenandoah, though. As you know, there's a lot to miss when you no longer go there.

Do you still have The Miller Award for most authentic Civil War uniform? My dad, Paul Ruehs, won said award in 1978. He was also a member of The N-SSA beginning back in the 1950s. We began in Battery B First New Jersey, but left after somebody from that unit stole an original pair of my dad's original Union Civil War trousers. That person then left Battery B and moved to California That said, this organization is Wonderful! Practically lived there during the entire 1970s. My brother Karl and I would have contests to see who could retrieve the most Minie balls from the backstop. Back then, they'd let you collect used lead bullets. P.S. This is an AWESOM video! Love how a woman won a shotting contest. My late mother, Rosalinde, was one of the best shots back in the 70s & 80s. Everyone called her Annie Oakly.

It was so Politically Correct even Hillary would enjoy it....the battle flags were missing in action. I thought these guys fought for Freedom......I guess by bending to certain groups, that sacrifice was for not. Other than that it was a well made video and I might venture down and see what it's all about...

I was just pointing out that the flags, from either side, were conspicuously missing from the film. They were as sacred as the blood spilled on the battlefield.

You can actually see flags hanging in the opening scene on a pavilion and in the background when the two ladies are speaking. There was no intent to remove any history, including flags. We do reenact any battles in the N-SSA therefore, flags are behind the firing line for safety.
