N. Paganini - Three Sonatas for Guitar
Музыка
0:00 Sonata in C minor (no. 33)
3:27 Sonata in A (no. 26)
6:42 Sonata in A (no. 37)
On top of being the greatest violin virtuoso, Paganini also wrote a considerable amount of guitar music!
Played on two guitars by Mark Usherovich. The C minor Sonata (the only sonata in a minor key) is on a 622 scale Romantic guitar inspired by René Lacôte. The other two Sonatas were played on a 629mm. I tuned down about 10 cents as i felt the guitars were comfortable there.
I kept the strings Mark had on the guitar already, which were Nylgut by Aquila. They really added to the character of this music, to me it just feels correct on these guitars. Mark actually had a real gut string on the high E when I initially tried the guitar, but it was a little harsh for me. Mark also makes fantastic modern guitars, his new "traditional" model was really outstanding.

The fact that Paganini was a skilled guitarist, even playing duets with Lignani, shows without a doubt in his guitar compositions. Complete mastery.
I can’t believe this is Paganini. I’m uneducated, I’ve only ever heard his technical gymnast pieces. Tremendous playing as always.
My 5-month-old son broke into a huge grin within the first few seconds. Lovely.

Awww I love that!
It's one of lifes greatest pleasures when a musician and their instrument are as one being their thoughts and feelings being perfectly transported.
Absolutely gorgeous renditions of these pieces, it always puts a smile on my face when Drew uploads a new video!

Awesome thanks, Paganini's 37 sonatas are some of my favorite pieces for guitar and Im glad someone as skilled as yourself puts out some beautiful recordings like this of them.
This is superb. Musicality at the limit. Pure insane playing. Wish you could come to give a Concert here in Brazil, professor! Congratulations
Sounding fantastic! I had heard and played part of the Sonata in A No. 26 before, but the other two were new to me.
Just learned Paganini was also an amazing guitarist! Thanks for posting this and thanks TwoSet for leading me here
With pleasure, listening from Brazil.
Fantastic performance Drew, these are better than I thought at first glance of the scores.

Thanks so much! I had the same reaction to the scores at first, then Matteo played a handful in concert and it opened my eyes a little to these quirky little pieces.
Gracias por compartir tu bello talento, saludos desde México

a appreciate the production quality of the videos in addition of course to the wonder performances and music its self. Great stuff, best of KZread.
How lovely!
Stunningly beautiful interpretation and performance. Bravo!
I find Paganinis guitarmusic a little banal sometimes but not in your hands!! Thanks for bringing life to this music😀🙂
Well played and interpreted, Drew, bravo! I was pleased that your performance’s aim was authenticity. Ten cents down from Standard is close to what the Vienna Opera’s tuning was in 1834 (A=436.5), which was during Paganini’s lifetime (according to Johann H. Scheibler). The Nylgut was an ideal tonal match, though I’d still be eager to hear gut strings on that guitar someday!

Thank you very much Josh! Really appreciate the support/kindness. I didn’t actually know that fact about the tuning, thanks for sharing. To be honest i’m tuning all my guitars lower now since recording the Chopin in D-flat. Aside from sounding a little more rich, the loose strings slow down the nail wear (which is why I use some fakes). Thanks again!!
Paganini has been kind to write something like this for guitarists 😎
Light-hearted happiness...
Magnifique !!! Vous êtes un virtuose, bravo.
Fantastic!!!
I'm here for all of it.
Thanks!
Wow! Love the guitars, too!
thanks for sharing this full of good feelnesses playing
Paganini wrote interesting sonatas for violin and guitar. There is a CD from the 1990s with Gil Shaham and Göran Söllscher. It was for a while one of the best selling classical CDs. I saw it also here on KZread: "Paganini for Two", DG recording

Thank you very much! Yes, the first piece is on a 622mm LaCote inspired guitar. The other 2 pieces are on a 630 (I think, see the description). I gotta say, I really love the feel and colour of these Romantic guitars.

You play really beautifully, it's unbelievable how clean your playing is, I listen to you on hi-end headphones and I don't hear any dirt. The musical instrument also has an amazing sound. What kind of guitar is that? Excuse my bad english

@@michaelvaladez6570 String noise, slides, squeals, imperfections to the tone. Though I can hear them just fine when theyre present. Maybe Filip is going deaf. Dont get me wrong, its beautifully cleanly played. I dont think there are too many guitarists in the world who could play these pieces cleaner.

Спасибо! Очень понравилась Ваша игра! ;-)
Magnífico!🙏❤️💐👏👏👏🖖🇧🇷
Nice playing and clearly in raptures
Wonderful performance! I was wondering if the guitars you featured had jumbo frets, or maybe it just appeared that way from the photography? I love the feel of thick fret wire, and wondered why builders don't seem to use it on acoustic guitars. Probably a traditionalist mentality, or something.
