Walking Around Narai-Juku Post Town (Nagano, Japan)

Japan is a place I keep going back. I feel so blessed that it's close to where I stay. I can travel alone, immerse myself in the beautiful and magical sights - city or rural I love them both. And it's safe. No matter how many times I go, each time when I plan my trip I feel joy and every trip is uplifting.

Why does rural japan have that calm, romantic, lonely and happy vibe compared to the countryside of other countries. This is my definition of heaven on earth. Thank you for this.

This place is an immaculately preserved tourist town, it just looks desolate because of COVID. (If you want some zen footage from Japan, the pandemic is your friend) If you want to see real rural Japan go to Google Streetview, and have a look at near-abandoned towns like Yubari in Hokkaido. You'll see a lot of rusty, dilapidated buildings because the Japanese don't like using wooden exteriors due to fire risk, and corrugated iron is dirt cheap. Unfortunately with age and abandonment they end up as real eyesores. It is estimated that 30% of Japan's housing stock will be abandoned by 2033, most will be in rural locations and dead towns.

Japan is in my honest opinion one of the most beautiful countries in the world. Especially these towns that are filled with traditional townhouses are gorgeous. As much as my petrolhead heart loves the stunning views you'll find along some of the world's best driving roads in the Swiss Alps, there's something so beautifully tranquil about seeing these large wooden buildings and structures lining the quiet streets. And of course, there's usually a great view to be found there too.

  • @JS-ob4oh

These traditional townhouses are very rare. The ones that survived are usually museum towns and there are not that many of them. What is even sadder and tragic is that the craftmanship that goes into building and maintaining these beautiful homes are slowly disappearing because many of the Japanese master craftsmen are dying out without any apprentice to hand down the art. 100 years ago, there were still thousands of them. 20 years ago, it was estimated there are fewer than 50 left.

This corner of KZread clearly presents the comfortable space for some individuals that share the similar or same taste/admiration(for Japan and Japanese culture in particular). No matter how high the suicidal rate is in Japan as many tends to think it is a very stressful place and strict society. I lived there and ... one true thing. if you look at the right places and among the right people, you will find a very unique and quite unexplainable peace ... seldom known to man. 'Mystic' i would say. Thank you for the space you created. the filming . the music. all deserve many thumbs up. I am writing positively in part to support the producer's effort to continue the beautiful artful work. Goodnight for now to all, and Goodnight Japan.

I think the high stress in Japan is caused by the Han chinese hogging continental land that should have become Japanese in the last century. If only just Manchuria would have been enough. As a result Japan is a country without valuable natural ressource and perpetually having to be at the leading edge of technology to survive which requires huge amount of work and life dedication. A perfect counter example of countries which are just lazy and lucky to be able to live off natural ressources is Dubai or the Arab emirates. Japan more than proved it is a responsible country that will not destroy natural ecosystems for the sake of profit something chinese do in droves. Unfortunately expanding your country requires conquest and that meant war and while war is always a terrible thing, Japanese made it worse in WWII. It's a difficult debate but when you see what China is doing today and compare with Japan, i believe Chinese land should be reduced and given to countries that proved to be responsible with the land like Japan and Taiwan. If China ever enters in a world militarized conflict with allied forces in the future, it should be vainquished and then quartered with all the invaded countries freed (Tibet, East Turkmenistan, Hong Kong) and quartered. The Han chinese need to learn to regulate their population, not to destroy land and resource to support it.

A common misconception that's widespread due to heavy stereotyping. Japan's suicide rate per 100k is at 14.3. Which is high, but United States is at 13.7. South Korea is at 20, and Russia is a whopping 27. Do you ever hear about Americans and Russians on how high the suicide is? No. Only Japan and Korea. Yet you hear all these people, especially from America, talking about how high Japan's suicide rate is - when in reality America is just as high. Don't assume stereotypes to be true by default just because you heard it over and over in media and fiction.

The few people and cars seem like strangers here. These ancient buildings await the return of their original owners. Perhaps they are only ghosts now, but we sense their presence. I’m sure if you had stayed at the inn you entered, you would have heard them creeping about in the attic. At least, that’s the mood created by your filming. Thank you for taking us there.

Another place for my Japan Bucket list. 😉 There seems to be no end of beautiful places there and I know this is only a fraction of whats there. My 4 weeks there last time wasn't enough and these films just makes me want to go back right now! Thank you som much for all these gems you are showing us. One reflection I've made here is that you have to get up really early to film this to catch those places without any people around.😁 どうもありがとうございます🙏💖
