I've always done it with calor canisters. It will not implode as it's under pressure. I'm not denying the guy in video is right because he's but I'm not paying anything to connect my gas oven 🤣. People nowadays are stupid and only educated in areas where the system wants them to be educated. When it comes to changing your brake pads on your car or hanging a tv on the wall this is where it all reveals. If I get someone to do something major I always watch their work, they hate it but I don't care as it's my money and I want it to be spent well. It's mostly about easy gains nowadays. Charging a lot for simple tasks. DIY and educate yourselves people where you can.

Engineer???????? As someone else says below, gas "fitters" need to stop calling themselves engineers!! Engineers work for NASA, not with their heads stuck under someone's sink!! Engineering is the most difficult degree course available, taking 4 years of applied mathematics to then have a career in engineering. YOU are not an engineer.

My understanding is that the bayonet fitting “caps” itself .. once detached that is it, can be left as it is. If the customer has no intentions of installing a new gas cooker in the future I would then recommend cutting the pipe back and capping further back on the pipework but in most cases it’s gets left as it is, obviously TT afterwards to make sure it isn’t letting by.

You think fairy liquid is dodgy. I rented an apartment in Romania, a hob had to be installed, the guys showed up with a bag of second hand iron tube and fittings, bad enough. When they opened the isolation valve after installation, they did the ultimate test, A CIGARETTE LIGHTER. I shut of the gas and called the company, they were very surprised that I was unhappy, in Romania a naked flame is considered a proper test Whaaaaat. I got the landlord to send a different company who tested to my requirement using proper equipment, but the overused old fittings remained, despite the landlord being charged for a new installation. Shocking difference in standards.

@@jameseley3098 they will most probably condemn your appliances if the slightest thing is wrong or out of place. British gas will still charge you a callout and they will be more then happy to issue warning notices, shut off or cap gas lines. Stop giving stupid advice. What's a few pounds in the in the thin of it. If you value yours and your families life call in a Gas Safe registered person. The reason why I take consider the title engineer is because I design and model heating systems. I don't just hang boilers or install appliances. COWBOYS AND GAS DON'T MIX. If someone dies because of you negligence. You'll have a trial on your hands and quite possibly jail time.
