Mystical Sky Pagodas Near Chiang Mai: a View You’ll Never Forget
Ойын-сауық
This is one of the great Chiang Mai day trips. I visit Wat Chaloem Phra Kiat, The Temple of Floating Pagodas in between Lampang and Chiang Mai. The Floating Pagoda is relatively unknown and still qualifies for the Unseen Thailand category. I’ll show you some unforgettable views of these Sky Pagoda.
It’s a stunning day adventure for any reasonably fit person. A spectacular staircase leads you to the most amazing sights upon a mountain top…a Temple in the Sky that features some incredible Sky Pagodas perched precariously on a cliff top. You won’t believe the beauty of this place and the journey there.

Thanks again! It's starting to gain popularity now as a tourist destination and I feel lucky that it was very quiet on my first two visits
Wow that was bloody awesome. Kudos for climbing that, but the folks who built those stairs and put the temples and white bell structures on the other unaccessible peaks are next level. What a place. Almost should be the eighth wonder of the world. What an achievement, and thanks so very much to Karl for bringing it to us. Stunning.

That's South East Asia...I don't know how these people do it, everything is built on mountain peaks...
I am just imagining the people who built the stairways and bridges, then the pagodas at the tops, they must have had so much faith and dedication to haul the raw materials needed for construction up there. My utmost respect 🙏 to them. Thanks for sharing your experience, Karl. Be blessed.

thank you so much for sharing this adventure with us.. wow, what a sight. i cant help but marvel at the extreme conditions these men had to work in , not only to get those stairs done but all the building materials, concrete, water, pavers, glass and decorations. absolutely amazing.

Came across your videos today only. After watching your absolute fabulous 2 parts of Thailand in the 80ies I got interested in more of your videos. I was doing pretty much the same as you guys did in the nearly exactly same locations at the same time in 87. Brought back quite some memories. So I learned in this video that you, as so many others of us previous young travellers to LOS back in the 80ies, got hooked to the country and learned to speak and even read Thai quite well. I used to and maybe will live again in Chiang Mai for many years, but never heard of Wat Chalerm Prikiat...., even when I was visitin Lampang province many times. Hope to be allowed into the country again this Autumn, after more than 2 years of living the live of a pariah in Europe. Yeah, and great sound & video quality by the way.

You speak Thai very well and very gentle ❤️👍🏻 Are you the one featured in Paddy Doyle’s recent trip to Pattaya (about 2/3months ago). The one that did the road trip on motorbike all across Thailand in 1990’s (or 80’s)? If yes, I’m glad to finally find your channel 😊 If not, it’s ok, i love your videos anyway.

They are Pagodas and the reason it is known as the Sky Pagoda. You can see their location in relation to the main Temple in the drone footage. You might be able to scramble over there but it probably isn't safe. Thanks

That could be your best find yet, and having a solid staircase gives everyone the chance to climb to the top. Is there tour groups or taxis that will take you there from Chiangmai central.? Thanks Karl 🙏

Thanks. One of my first videos was from this place Mark so it’s not new to me but on that first visit it was raining which severely limited the views. I never checked with your companies but I’m certain they could arrange a trip. You could always hire a taxi privately for the day to visit or even hire a car yourself

Cheers Brett, yes, better to stay in Lampang or near to the mountain temple on the way to Chiang Mai than do it as a day trip. It can be done that that way but would involve a degree of backtracking. Maybe see you in Pattaya again Brett
How far is this mountain from Lampang city and is it possible to get anywhere near this area by public transportation? Is there a smaller town near the mountain itself that has places to stay for the night? Just found your channel Karl and have subscribed found this via your interview today.

It’s about an hours drive from Lampang city. Sorry but I am not sure about the local buses. Here’s a Google Maps link Wat Chaloem Phra Kiat Phrachomklao Rachanusorn, Lampang: Temple of the Floating Pagodas +66 62 264 9928 goo.gl/maps/y3E87wWiqUBQxkFK8

Sure, actually they only charged me the local price because I spoke Thai but you are correct. Dual pricing happens a lot in Thailand and some people get very upset about it. It is a beautiful place though. Cheers
