The plastic tasting food is called Bánh Tráng Trộn, which is pretty much a rice paper salad! The rice paper used in this dish is also commonly used in Vietnamese spring rolls; however, it has the consistency of plastic because it is not soaked in water to soften it for the dish that you tried! It is supposed to be slightly crispy, chewy, and packed with flavor from soaking up a bit of the sauce that it is mixed with! :)

Hello, Ken. I am glad that you have enjoyed your tour trip in Saigon, Vietnam. You could have hired the tour guide to tell you Vietnamese history, and to introduce to various popular Vietnamese foods and cuisines. The yellow fried crepe, Banh' Xeo-/Sizzling Crepe. You should have eaten the other herbal green vegetables (basil, mint, cilantro, coriander, perilla purple leaves, etc.) along with the crepe and the lettuce, which are savory and tastier, due to the infusion of flavor and texture, The rice paper can be used to wrap the vegetables, herbs and protein of a dish. It is also shredded in strips like noodles (NOT PLASTIC) and mixed with dried shrimps, dried shredded squids, green onion, fried shallots, shredded/julian-cut young mangoes and papayas, boiled/cooked quail or c duck eggs, butter/oil, cow head cream cheese, mayonnaise and hot sauce. The crackers/cookies you bought were pig's ear (shape), which are popular snack to school children. One more respectable advice is STOP compare the Vietnamese foods & cultures to other Asian and South-East Asian countries. Each country has its own cuisines, history, languages, manners/etiquettes, cultures, uniqueness, etc. It's disrespectful to compare them to one another. Also, sauces are not soups. The grilled bananas you tried were in the coconut milk sauce. Thanks for sharing your fun videos. I enjoyed them. Good luck with the Visa situation.

Hi Ken. To avoid wasting your One Month visa take a Giant Ibis bus across the border to Phnom Penh in Cambodia, stay for a few days, then come back to Vietnam. You can even take a boat from Phnom Penh to Vietnam (Mekong region, Chau Doc ?), then bus back to Saigon. The Mekong Delta region of Vietnam is very interesting. Of course, you will need to buy a Cambodia visa at the border first. Good luck ! 👍

Great video Ken. There is a pink church very similar in Danang! The banh xeo are delicious, yes a little oily, and the dip cuts the oil a bit. Perhaps practice leaving the camera in one spot, after you show the food, and use 2 hands to eat. We can see your reaction to the flavours and you can explain it too. It seems so awkward to just eat with one hand. Vietnamese food is usually fresh and delicious! You can leave and re enter straight away and get another 15 days. Or visit another country and then reapply for the 30 days evisa but wait until you receive it this time.

Your videos really show the fun side of travel in a very informal way. I enjoy them greatly. Do the wise thing, do yourself a favor and make a border run. Vietnam is so worth it, such a special place. It's a different country in the central (Danang, Hue) and northern (Hanoi) regions with different culture and very different foods. It would be a tragedy to miss them. Good luck, you are truly in one of the most amazing countries in the world. And your videos are making me want to go back.

It always nice of you to support the locals in anyway possible especially the small local businesses. I will make it a point to try out the Vietnamese Coffee during the next trip to Vietnam.... Love them... Probably my go-to for these Grab Bikes to move around the city the next time round....Take care out there anyway. Just follow your heart and do what makes you happy..... Cheers mate!!

When eating banh xeo or any VNmese dish served with a platter of veggies, make sure you add the herbs and then dip into the fish sauce dip. The “plastic” is rice paper which is plasticky but turn soft and chewy when moistened. The grilled banana is served with a coconut cream sauce (sometimes with tapioca in it) and it’s a dessert.

I suggest you to do the visa run to Cambodia . It doesn't take very long to go to the Cambodian border by bus ( only about 2 hours from Saigon ) . There are special buses that take you there for maybe 15-20 USD or even less (round trip) .You don't have to stay very long in Cambodia , maybe just half an hour then come back right away in VN . Since you already have the Vietnamese visa , you don't have to wait long at the Vietnamese border on the way back . It would take you half a day maximum for the entire trip . During the bus ride you could watch the Vietnamese countryside as well . Otherwise it would be too bad if you have to leave VN so early without seeing much of the country . Hope everything will be solved easily for you Ken .

Hey man, just for those who might be curious, or like me got " amused and alittle bit hmm " .... min @18 on, the lady whom [ Ken ] shared the table eating the [ banana "yogurt" ] , my Vo Oi says, lady was complaining about work, longer hours and more stuff but money still the same lol as for your visa , i do have a nice suggestion : before the end of day 10, give it some buffer, travel to cambodia for some quick ones, and then back into Northern part of vietnam, down Hanoi, and perhaps to the beaches of Huế Thua Thien Hue Vietnam via Train to finish off your travel blog and i do think you ought to look at a travel router, and google speech translator on the fly, and like other comments, do shorts whilst on the move, using the travel router, next for easier editing or others. or even using the m1 ipad pro to save you travel [ mass & mess ] youre lucky thus far, theres a mix bag of educated locals who understood english, Northern side, you might not be that lucky, to know what to do or payment wise. as for content, theres local youtubers you might wana seek out ? but the Egg coffee is a must once you're in the capitol of Hanoi other sites, like the Hanoi Train Street would do you just , after flying to cambodia for a renewed 1month. p.S do not bring too much items when cross boarder travelling,

I think all foreign vloggers unfamiliar with Vietnamese food need to go on food tours so the local guides can show you all the food and how to eat it properly. You didn't add the herbs to your banh xeo, which is a big part of the flavor/aroma (avoid the fish mint, the one with heart-shaped leaves)....oft times Vietnamese food contains fresh veggies/herbs and dips/sauces that needs to be eaten properly in order to experience the full flavor.

Your visa dilemma isn't as complicated as you think. In the 15 days in Vietnam, do you plan to just stick to Saigon? If not as vlogger, do a few episode on a popular city beside the border and take the opportunity to rest amp your passport... How simple is that? :)

I'd like to take your side, but the 3 working days starts after the person assessing your application receives it not from when you sent it. A wise person would have sent it at least a week earlier then if there was a problem you would've had time to make changes. Next time Ken don't be so spontaneous, make some plans that give you time if something goes wrong.

The Tour Agencies, and many others are requesting the government to extend visa for tourists, and the topic is being debating on the news. If only you and many other tourists speak up about the issue, to let them know don't be stupid with the visa policies .

Immigration, they know how to put a spoke in your wheel and ruin your plans. The food looks interesting, seems very cheep. Whatever your decision do you have another Country to visit after Vietnam?

It's called dipping sauce, not SOUP, lol. And you're eating Banh Xeo with chopsticks, seriously🤣😂😅..you use your hands wrap Banh Xeo with the greens/herbs into a roll like spring roll and dip it in the sauce. That's how the Vietnamese eat Banh Xeo. They never use chopsticks for Banh Xeo. Chopsticks are used for Pho. You seriously need help with instructions how to eat Banh Xeo🤣
