The Oki Islands, off the Sea of Japan in Shimane Prefecture, was certified as the Oki Islands UNESCO Global Geopark in 2013. In the Oki Islands, vegetation found in Hokkaido (north of Japan) live alongside vegetation found in Okinawa (south of Japan), and continental plant life, alpine plant life, and glacial-era plant life are found in the lowlands alongside the coastline. The coexistence of various plant life found from places all over Japan still remain a mystery, telling us that the Oki ecosystem still holds many secrets. ※Oki Islands UNESCO Global Geopark www.oki-geopark.jp/en/episode/...
