If you are going to compare speeds between robots, you should include a human example, where someone practiced on that repetitive task as a daily job. A human would grab multiple things with each hand and sort things faster, also a human would cook many things at once, way faster than this. These robot designers need to try working in a restaurant kitchen during weekend dinner time, and realize building robots is a very cushy job, and easy compared to actual kitchen work. Minimum wage cooks run around preparing like 15 orders at once, each with their own ingredients. imagine how slow this would be, trying to batter and deep fry shrimp with this robot... Human cooks would hold 5 shrimp in each hand, batter, and bread them, carefully placing them in the oil without splashing it, setting a timer, but they do all this in less than 20 seconds, change gloves, and move onto the next item. This thing doesn't have gloves, and would cause food poisoning, using the same grippers for raw fish, chicken, beef, veggies, etc... It would be a sanitation nightmare compared to humans with gloves, and at the end of every night, you would have to disassemble these robots and run them through the dishwasher, because every crevice would be caked up with flour or breading. Until you see a demo where these things work around other people, in a high intensity real world scenario, its just a toy. If your robot can't consistently make a blooming onion without breaking it, Its not ready for actual kitchen work.

These are all pre-programmed and per-trained tasks made specifically for this demo. It's crucial people understand that we've been able to do everything in this demo for DECADES. The only thing new here is the claim that it's using a machine learning model to accomplish these tasks through natural language input. If you've ever wondered how automation took away factory jobs decades ago, this video shows how. Pre-programmed assembly line instructions to complete tasks that require fine precision. They aren't even particularly precise in this demonstration. So now they must prove that this system can work in any novel context (works anywhere), can do so autonomously, and does so via natural language instructions without prior knowledge. So take this all with a grain of salt, and wait to see if it ends up in any real factories or other commercial enterprises.

"these are all pre-programmed". false. boston dynamics robots are not pre-programmed, and these recent robots from openAI, tesla, and this astribot is a leap past boston dynamics, because they are also using language models like chatgpt to generalize all their tasks. this has been demonstrated with various tech releases in the past 12 months. the entire ai hype these past 18 months is due to the fact things are not being preprogrammed any longer, and this feature is being implemented in these recent robots. is seems your awareness is out of date.

Just because other companies like OpenA.I., Meta, Tesla, etc... have decent A.I. doesn't mean that the company who developed this bot was using ANY of their A.I. or an equivalent A.I. But, taking into context the latest dozen or so tech showcases in the past year that establish a clear trend that all so far are not pre-programmed, your claim is certainly going against the current trend of evidence. so again, what are your many examples of tech reveals that claimed to not be pre-programmed but turned out to be pre-programmed? you are up against the myriad of tech reveals that are certainly not pre-programmed - including chatgpt, claude, gemini, copilot, atlas robot, spot, figure1, optimus, etc.

YAY! Another video about a video, with no context, that SHOCKS everyone. So I can either get this robot or find a normal 6-year-old.

Funny people "teleoperated" - even if it is teleoperated - such a precise motors, smooth motion, fast. I think the machine learning part is way much simplier than create this as a machine.

Long way to go. At the moment It doesnt even look like a humanoid robot. It doesn't talk, it doesn't walk, It has not real head, only cameras. His arms look more like excavator arms. It has no real hands, nor legs. Speed Is nothing, stupid industrial robots are fast, but definitely we need much more than this. Tesla Optimus Is the future , because It can operate a full day without charging , It can manipulate things whit real hands, It Is really AI driven. His Speed Is enough to operate in real situations. This robot Is trash

It doesn't really matter to me which robot is the most optimal in this case, I just want robots to take away all the repetitive, soul-crushing jobs so we can advance as a society already.

They are killin' it. Figure 1 is also impressive, but in terms of the sizzle reels, this one has an edge. But there's also the new Atlas, which no one ought count out, yet. It's all wonderful. There is enough room for all of them and keep them coming, and you guys ought be competing but also working out open standards, too.

hard programmed robots can be way faster then this. at 3:02 you see how the magic trick is done, so you can program this robot with just a video, not a guy in a special suit, or G code. move the robot over 5 inches and you will see the issue, as it will likely do the cup stacking in the same way with out the cups being in the correct place.

6:45 I'm not sure about the other videos, but that particular video of the Teslabot is about a year old. Since the Tesla bot itself is just over two years old and we've seen its progress in its first 12-14 months, we can assume its speed and capabilities have surpassed what was shown in the video.

7:00 The demonstrations look impressive on the surface, but I don't give much credit to these types of showcases, regardless of the manufacturer, because they are often selectively edited to highlight the best results. There’s no transparency about how many attempts were made or how long it took to get usable footage for the demo. To be genuinely impressed, I need to see the product perform in real-time, evaluated by an impartial third party, without the influence of selective editing. Regarding the cups, he didn't actually stack them. He merely positioned them over the top without releasing them, then slid them back into place. Even my blind grandmother could do that.

It should have just a simple track wheels for stability and cost efficiency, no need for legs for its first model l.

It might look good standing still at the kitchen, chopping stuff or cooking, but I'd like it to have a more typical body, including legs. It would look better to me. (Also, you never know when it's going to be necessary to run uphill chasing those pesky humans 🙃).

The movements are more humanlike than that of any other robot I've ever seen. So obviously they have made huge progress in that regard. As for the AI and self learning and working through natural language, that will be far far into the future, which at the pace things are moving right now, means by the end of this year, or next. I'm counting on China to come out with the most advanced and humanlike robots, at ever decreasing prices due to mass production. Hopefully in a few years we will have care taker robots that will solve the problem of aging population in almost all developed nations.

I will believe it when it is proven that it was not teleoperated or pre-programmed.

"No teleoperation" -> proceeds to demonstrate teleoperation. Seems like total bs to me. Their first person view looks like a basic object recognition demo; no depth or segmentation or deeper inference that it would need if it were really performing any of those actions on it's own. And if you had that data vis, why would you choose to show what is essentially kindergartener level object recognition anyone can setup in 10 minutes

Until robots can replicate this performance in random cluttered environments with zero human intervention, while compensating in graceful ways when facing interference, they'll be toys. You need to be able to say "Go organize my library by author," and not need to do anything else -- even if your library is just a pile of books in a difficult to navigate room with strewn with old records and half-eaten pizza lying around. Otherwise, humans are both better and cheaper.

This is the worst this tech will ever be.

The cup stacking could easily be faked by creating a "clock" that slows, then ramping the speed in post, to match. Even if THAT segment were real, robots use motors, motors can move fast.., and..? This is clearly being teleoperated by a human, with all the small involuntary muscle jitters that humans display. When it's manipulating an object with just one hand, watch its other 'at rest' arm/wrist/hand closely. Notice anything? It seems to mimic the minute muscle twitches a human would have, articulating one arm, while trying to hold the other perfectly still. Try it. If that's the "AI" adding in all those micro-movements, in multiple axes, just to appear more lifelike... great I suppose, just would seem an awfully inefficient waste of power and wear on the motors/joints. Unlike muscles, motors don't make ANY movement that they're not specifically signaled to make, and I doubt an AI is going to intentionally bog down it's own CPU with that sort of noise, for...aesthetics? I mean, it's cool for what it is, but an AI is not cooking up these articulations in real time, IMO. Not yet anyway, (didn't Tesla do this recently?), lol. Probably the only AI manipulation going on here, culminated with me robotically clicking on this vid 😉 Sorry, this isn't C3PO, it's Anthony Daniels.

It was sloppy with the bottle cap. It didn’t ensure the fruit was properly inside the container before closing it . The fry pan flip was specifically programmed for that weight of food . The pouring of small tea spoon in the frying pan was sloppy. There’s no way it knew that was a hello kitty toy . Totally preprogrammed bs. Slow asf . Will come back in 10 years when it actually is close to even human level

don’t actually see much AI being used here. Like when it puts the toys away, did it learn it had to stabilise the draw with one hand before it could open or close it, or was it programmed.

Doesn't seem impressive to me relative to the stuff like Boston Dynamics etc... This bot doesn't demonstrate without a doubt that it's not just some pre-fabricated program doing the same task over again with a button press.. like pre-rendered animations. I'd like to see it in real time and a guy pushing the objects around while it's doing the task... not to mention it looks like a stationary bot. Otherwise meh, we did this stuff quite some time ago. The movements/engineering aren't impressive either relatively, cuz I found an open source project by a Japanese company that achieves the same thing. Overall, it's awesome but they could've done better with the demo unless they are hiding something.

You are definitely not an AI. It isn't 1 ex speed, it is 1 times speed. And one doesn't do things at a quick speed, one does things quickly. I'll prob get shit from the Internet as a pedant now, or my English will get pulled apart. Oh well. Good video. I think their design asthetic sucks, but its performance is wild. I wonder if the segmentation model is running locally. My guess is they are using their own model or a local isntance of a frontier one given how quickly it responds to directions. Wild times ahead. There's going to be lots of robots for us to pick from. Keep up the good work.

Astribot is just replaying human recorded movements. They don't show any objects being moved or shuffled or reset like in some of the other robot vids. They even show the human dancing at the end. That's how this robot is programmed. Good luck getting it to work in random situations. Plus... they aren't showing you all the FAILS. How many flips of a sandwich were done until the bread barely stayed in the pan? Who knows. Every single shot of the Astribot is absolutely cherry picked.

I don't believe that, the whole thing is a set up. How is it getting it's instructions ? There's someone off camera with a hand/grip rig operating it remotely. If that is actually real, we're fucked.

What's shocking it's that it's CGI.

Nothing I saw in this video impressed me. Everything it did might have been "learned" but you could clearly see it was going through "fixed" motions. It did not do any real time corrections. The pan flipping for instance, it did not try to correct for the bread hitting the side of the pan and almost falling out. Or when it chopped the vegetables. If the pepper fell off, it would still have pushed down the blades. All of its motions were very precise without a single correction made as if it was unaware of what it was doing.
