Mysteries of Jerusalem - Search for the True Cross

Shrouded in mystery for two thousand years, the cross of Jesus has been an enigma to men around the world. The most venerated of all holy relics, the wood upon which the Holy Man was crucified, been sought after by noblemen and peasant, kings - and since the 12th century, its whereabouts have been unknown. "The search for the true cross" will tell the story of how the cross, once the symbol of death and torture became the most sought out and admired of all holy treasures.

The largest fragments of the True Cross are in Santa Croce in Rome, and have been there since St. Helena brought them there with countless mircacles granted to the faithful over the centuries!

although the cross may still be around, as a believer i must ask how many of us would end up worshiping it instead of Jesus. i have to say i believe God in his infinite wisdom would know this. i believe it is not to be found because god would not let this happen

Jewish burial practices for someone who dies a Violent Death have always been to gather up everything with the blood of the victim, for burial together. When St Joseph of Arimathea went to Pilate, this would be understood as "normative." Therefore Joseph would have asked for the timber of the Cross, both the upright (usually left in place), as well as the Spar, or Crossbeam. Joseph had enough influence that Pilate would have granted his request, especially after the earth-quake that afternoon! It is crystal clear from the Holy Shroud that the Crown of THISTLES -- Gundelia tournafortii -- was placed beside JESUS' Head on the burial cloth. (This was Green, and in flower, not a bunch of spines! All the Gospels refer to it with words derived from 'akanthos' -- think of the graceful curved leaves on a Corinthian capital.) This pollen is The Most Prevalent on the Shroud, & in a circle near the Head. Over 2 dozen species of Judean Spring Wildflowers are also in evidence, though not mentioned in the Gospels. A forger would never have thought this up if he were concocting a fake! You are right that the upright post was ordinarily "recycled." But this Case had very marked differences from "ordinary."

we investigated this artifact in 1993, a golden cross, 200-300gr heavy, about 15cm long, the monk there read a long ritualistic prayer, about 1 hour long, 'I almost run out of patience for what was supposed to be a casual 'blessing'', at the end of the hour, the artifact became 'MAGNETIC' on demand, it could scan one's body, and identify the exact spots where pain/suffering/health problems are, and stack like a super magnet on metal!!! the most paranormal thing I have ever seen!

In classical Greek the word (stau·rosʹ) primarily denotes an upright stake, or pole, and there is no evidence that the writers of the Christian Greek Scriptures used it to designate a stake with a crossbeam.

  • @christopherkelley7972

    @christopherkelley7972

    4 жыл бұрын

That is just a Half-truth. Yes, STAVROS is the Greek Cousin of our English words, Stave, Staff, & the like; but the Roman practice had changed the meaning of the term. Compare John Milton's *Paradise Lost* - in which satan is riding in a "car"! -- A Cadillac? Certainly not! To Milton, the word meant "a chariot." Meanings do change. In Greek manuscripts of the New Testament, the word is written " CTAYPOC ", but pronounced as I wrote above. One of the EARLIEST papyri, ca 150AD, condensed this: The Letter T is called "TAV" in Greek; "P" = Letter "Rho" [R] is combined with the T, so that it looks like a "Head" above the outstretched arms. The whole word is then composed of Four Letters -- with overtones of the Tetragrammaton itself! (I can't do this on the keyboard exactly.) This manuscript was written in days when Romans still crucified men regularly. The scribe was giving us a wee "picture" of Christ on the Holy Cross. In St John 3, for Nicodemus to visualize what Jesus is telling him about Moses raising the serpent, Nicodemus must understand that the "staff" is like that for a military signal banner: It has a cross-spar. A bronze figure has no "muscles" with which to grip a shaft, so it must DRAPE across the Spar. It will "hang down" like the pennant used to signal the troops in the field, in the midst of battle. The commander can thus communicate with them "at the speed of light." They can recognize his own pennant, distinct from any other that may be visible. JESUS is here speaking of His Own Crucifixion, where HE, taking "the whole curse upon Himself" becomes Our Sin, to die in our place. [2 Cor.5:21]

I was gratified that Holy Cross Monastery and Orthodox Tradition was cited. It is usually overlooked in favor of Roman Catholic Church exclusively. Over all quite balanced. I appreciated the avoidance of the modern revisionist historians treatment of the Equal to the Apostles Sts Constantine and Helen. What dissapointed me was there was no mention of the largest piece on Mount Athos.

ok, well that's enough for me. Jesus' "true cross" has nothing what so ever to do with something material. Then you add in the whole "idol worship" aspect of this cross. I'm pretty sure god told his people no idol worship. When you go looking for a piece of wood, you miss the entire message.

You do not make any difference between the images of idols that are false gods and are given a worship that must be given only to the One True God, and the Cross of Jesus Who is True God. Is His Cross an idol, i.e. an image of a false god? Are the cherubims in the Temple idols?

  • @megganking2595

Yasen Dobrev Searching for a piece of wood that Jesus was crucified on is searching for idols. The cherubim are a nice decoration and people don't pray to them or think they hold special miracle powers. If they do,then yes, they are worshiping idols and not God. Our faith is Jesus/God alone, not in stone and wood or things that can be seen. For these things rust and turn to dust but God is eternal.

***** St. Helene was led by her strong faith in her search for the Cross. She was not searching for idols. Yes, people do not pray to the cherubims. But I mentioned them in order to show that there are images that are allowed and are not a violation of the Second Commandment. The cherubims are a depiction of creatures who really exist. There is a real protype. It is the same with the icons. There is a real prototype. When you condemn the believers that venerate the icons of the saints as idolaters, you separate their internal perception towards the saints whom they do not consider to be gods, from the external act of veneration. When you accuse someone of idolatry, you cannot separate the two things. You do it, thus ignoring the fact that the believers that venerate the icons, do not consider them to be gods. Also the idols are images of false, non-existing gods that are given the worship that must be given only to God. The idols are worshipped by people who do not know the Most Holy Trinity. The icons are venerated (not worshipped as gods) by people who do not consider them to be gods, and who know the Most Holy Trinity. Also the icons depict real prototypes (the cherubims also depict truly existing creatures) of holy men and women. Through the icons the believers direct their prayers to the prototypes. Also, the believers pray to the saints in order for the saints to pray to the Lord for those praying to them. That is why you can see in the prayers to the saints the words:''Pray God for us''. ''And the smoke of the incense, which came with the prayers of the saints, ascended up before God out of the angel's hand.'' (Revelation 8:4). The miracles done by God that are manifested through the holy icons and the holy remains of saints, are thoussands and many of them are well documented. There is a case in the Old Testament of a miracle manifested through the deceased body of a prophet and a holy man:''21 And it came to pass, as they were burying a man, that, behold, they spied a band of men; and they cast the man into the sepulchre of Elisha: and when the man was let down, and touched the bones of Elisha, he revived, and stood up on his feet.'' They are many bodies of saints that have passed away centuries ago and that still remain incorrupt to this day. For example, the body of 4th century saint St. Demitrios of Thessaloniki can be still seen in the Agios Demetrios Basilica in Thessaloniki, Greece. It is totally incorrupt and emits chrism and fragrance. Another example is the body of the Serbian king St. Stephen. Another example is the Bulgarian saint St. John of Rila who lived in the tenth century. His remains are preserved in the Rila Monastery. The remains of those saints are incorrupt and can still be seen today. If you reject the miracles that are witnessed to have been done by God through the holy icons and holy remains of the saints, you dangerously put yourslef in the position of the Pharisees who rejected Christ's miracles and refused to admit that they were done with the Holy Ghost. ''But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost hath never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation: Because they said, He hath an unclean spirit.'' (Mark 3:29-30). They imputed the miracles to an unclean spirit. The reason why we venerate the holy icons and remains,is that it is commanded by God. The Seventh Ecumenical Council was convened due to the heresy of iconoclasm. It was determined that the icons should be venerated. The Holy Ghost has spoken at the Ecumneical Councils just like He did at the Council in Jerisalem around 51 AD that dealed with the issue of whether the Gentile should follow the Mosaic Law. You don not believe that the Holy Ghost has spoken at the Councils and that is why you do not accept their decisions. But you see that it is much more complicated and the topic is connected to the ecclesiology. You have a totally different understanding of the Church.

Yasen Dobrev .....and you have missed my point...and the point of the "cross" Just like St. Helene did apparently and any one else who goes looking for a piece of wood. This isn't about breaking a law or a commandment. We're not even under the law anymore. It's about understanding what Jesus' "true cross" was/is. His"cross" wasn't a piece of wood that he was nailed to...that's just a piece of wood. His "cross" was the sin of man he had to bare on his shoulders so that we might be saved. His "cross" was having to bare the hatred and disbelief of his own people, because he loves us so much. His "cross" was having to fight against temptation so that he would be a worthy sacrifice for ALL of the world. Jesus had many crosses to bare and NONE of them had/have to do with a piece of wood that was reused after Jesus was taken down. Which is what ALL Romans did after a person as removed. It was made ready for the next person, and so on and so forth until it couldn't be used anymore. Than it was used for fire. So, like my original post stated. Anyone who goes looking for a piece of wood, misses the whole thing.

I understood your point. But your attitude towards such a relic sums up your attitude towads the holy relics as a whole and towards those who venerate them, respectively. If you consider such a relic to be an idol, then you consider those who venerate the relics to be idol worshippers. I do not mean to insult you or something. My response was probably induced by your position on the cross which is the common Protestant position on the holy relics as a whole. (I am an Orthodox Christian).

One portion of the Holy true Cross was taken by the persians, by Choroès II influenced by his wife Shirîne who was Nestorian Christian, she asked her husband for the Cross to Worships and adore it . Choroes II took the Holy Wood and put it in his Gynecee in the Castle in Persia(he fought the armenians and the byzantines and took off the Holy Cross from Jerusalem) ; the ennemies killed him and Shirîne she comitted suicide and fell down on the body of her lover husband ... The Coran tells this story in Sourate Al-Massad in which God tells us of Abu-Lahâb (The father of the flame: it means he was Zoroastrian who Worships the fire) and his wife the porter of the Wood(The Wood of the Holy Cross),God(Allah )in these verses Cursed them all two! The Sourate doesn't tell a story of the Uncle of Muhammed and his wife but the story about The Cross ,Choroes II and Shirîne his wife!

Isn't that what the guys that built the Holy Sepulcher church did though. It would've been cool to see the actual hill that jesus was crucified on, now it's just a building like thousands of other buildings in the world. I guess if the christians hadn't gotten to exploiting the site some other guys would've. Whatever, I just wish it had been preserved better but I guess over 2000 years that's hard to do.

Kill those who sin against us, liberate those who is subjugated under Satan, rebuilt the human paradise, destroy the chaos tainted men and deliver the insane to the pits. But all i did was not for god, It was a greater god men had created. That god i pray and every one does, did not came from a book or word, but the tree that symbolized thee very institute of mankind. Why are you people looking for relics? To worship? Worship Jesus in your heart, soul and mind and in your spirit. Relics are just things of the past and are not to be worshiped. I talk to Him every day; I sup with Him and He with me. We are one, He is in me and I am in Him.

It is true that seeking the cross is Idol worship....Those who seek it look for the instrument of death, rather than the true miracle His being raised....Most interestingly IMO is the why of that? Why would someone say that if they could be historically certain that they were holding a piece of the real cross in their hand that it would to them be the most significant relic in existence? The answer is that to the natural man without true knowledge of God and personal relationship what that person does have is a concept of God. Such a concept is strengthened by stories, traditions, and best of all relics.... When you know God you have God to hold on to but when you only know about God when He is concept rather than friend you look for something to make that more meaningful.

where does if say the people who brought Jesus down kept the bloody wood which they could not do since the Roman invaders would use it again on another victim. The tree story is a pity, the Romans said to get the wood from the tree that was regrown from two sticks that was handed down by Jesus ancestors and them we kill him on it after we cut and make a cross of the wood that was once a beam in a building then a foot bridge, floated up out a water 300 years later. WE humans have so much faith

In all probability, it is highly doubtful that Yeshua would have given/give his blessings to those among us who venerate the instrument of not only his death, but also the painful deaths of thousands of his fellow Israelites, nor is there any scriptural evidence to support the veneration of temporal, material items. In fact the the veneration/worship of idol/images is forbidden. This issue has caused much division in the past between the East and Western Churches and during the Reformation.

According to some Book called the Jesus Files which was a true account by some Men that were to become recruits; They went to the Vatican to receive Instruction were to go into an elongated room where there were Artefacts that were reported to be that of Jesus Christ: First they Looked upon a Whip of which was reported to have been the very whip that had scoured the Back of him in whom you call Jesus Christ: It was no ordinary whip but a whip that had many throngs; Threaded onto the Whip were Knuckle Bones of a Rabbit {Back bones} of a Rabbit of which were Jagged. Then they saw a Two Phials One of which was so Small that it contained the Tear Drops of Mary and there was a Locket containing a Lock of her Hair ! Then the other Phial Contained the Blood and water of Him in whom you Call Jesus Christ: Then there were Two Pieces of Timber Approx, 12 to 14 inches Long. theses Two Pieces of wood had distinctive Nail Holes which were believed to be where Nails were driven through his Hands or wrists; Those two Pieces had once been One Long Piece of wood; where the Two Ends were Cut off the wood where the Middle Pieces were cut into smaller Pieces and sold to anyone that Might want to Buy them as some form of Lucky Charm : There was also wrote on Parchment the write up of the trial and also Payments Made out to some Witness who was at His Trial Yeshua Having Been Whipped and spat upon and Ridiculed would eventually be on his way to be Crucified at Golgotha: and According to scroll that is within the Vatican; it was Made quite Clear that when He was Taken there He'd Stand at the Key Hole {The Key hole is a specially designed Hole within the Ground where the Upright Piece of wood would Be Lifted: It was not a Cross as Such that was Used: It was something that resembled a Mortise and Tenant Joint where the Cross member would Slot into the Upright Beam: This Capital T Shape would have Been Laid on the Ground before the Key Hole : Many of you People are Made to believe that the Messiah was Hoisted up onto the Cross where then he was to address the People: This was not the Case ! All Criminals {of which he was not} that were sentenced to death were Given the right to Address the People before they were Crucified: It could be that they'd wish for to Say sorry for all they had done and hope that G-d would Forgive them: But In the Case of the Messiah ! Women were Crying and wailing Begging and Pleading that He should be set Free: His Frail Mother was stood only a few feet away from the Messiah ! Having Quietened the women: He who was Exhausted from the Lack of Blood and the whipping; He Began to Address the People; where He said something that Baffled everybody ! He said Women of Jerusalem Cry Not for Me . For I tell you this; there will be a woman that will say to another woman Blessed are the women whose Breasts that are Not Sucked !! And Blessed are the women that do Not Give Birth: For I Tell you this there will be Much wailing and Gnashing of Teeth; After He had Made his Speech: They Lay Him Down on the Wooden Structure where they Nailed his Hands and Feet : There in your Bible Does not Give an Exact account on how actual crucifixion Took Place Crucifying someone was a work of Art; where the Executioner could Prolong or shorten Death: A Man would be Measured ; this would Determine on where the Man's Hands and Feet would Be Placed: According to the write up within the Vatican's Scrolls; The Executioner was Reprimanded because of Not Measuring him; and when the Nails were Placed within his Hands and feet ; He was stretched out too Far; He was Not able to Support Himself and therefore his Chest and Lungs would Cause him to Shallow Breath; He'd Swallow Mucus and His Lungs would fill up with Mucus and therefore Drown or choke to death: Her in whom you Call Mary {His Mother} Standing a few Feet away was approached By a Priest ; and On seeing Tears Rolling down her Eyes He Pulled her Hair and Jerked her Head backwards where He Placed a Phial under Cheeks and Caught Teardrops and Sealed the Phial: Then with a Knife He Cut a Lock of her hair and placed that within a Locket; He Looked Across the way to where Yeshua was; He'd Start to Torment the Messiah and ask him if he could Come down from of the Cross and Rescue or save his Mother ! But then He'd Notice that Yeshua had his Eyes Closed and that his Head was tilted: Had he Fainted; That Priest Dashed over to Yeshua where he Grabbed a Spear From off a Guard and Began to Prod Yeshua; So Angered that He Made no Response; He thrust the Spear into his Side. Blood and water Came from within; As it Trickled down his Side, and on seeing it; The Bucket Containing the Sops and sponge; He Emptied the Sops and Held the Bucket under the Feet and Gathered the Blood and water and then transferred the Blood and water into a Larger Phial: Because He was Dead there was no Need to Break His Legs so has to Kill him??Your Holy Roman Catholic Church of which is None other than the whore of Babylon Murdered My Messiah Because He was Saving Souls He was Given to Us that we Might Be forgiven: If you are a Roman Catholic who was once a Jew Come out of her Lest you Receive the same Punishment as what G-d has in Store for her and Her Harlots

No dead body or even burial could be within the city limits of Jerusalem. It would have violated Hebrew Passover law and defiled the entire feast day and made it null and void before God. When Judas hung himself the thirty pieces of silver he threw back at the Sanhedrin was used in his name to buy the Potters field (outside of the city limits) and his body was thrown over the wall of the area moving it out of the city. so any burial site of Jesus absolutely has to be outside of the city limits. Since the object of crucifixion is death that would not have taken place within the city limits under any circumstances. The Romans allowed the Jews to be Jews. They wanted lots of money, goods, slaves, and most of all to get these with the least bit of effort, which means to quell any rebellions. Torture is not an effective means at getting to the truth of the matter because people will say just about anything to avoid pain or suffering. That Jew named Judas who was starved and thrown in a well surely had the last laugh at Helena...who fancied herself a bit of a psychic..(that is not tolerated by either Christianity or Judaism). Christians believe psychic ability comes from dealing with familiar spirits .Paul cast the fortune telling demon out of a possessed girl who was bugging him all the time. Since she was a slave her owners had a fit because they couldn't make money off of her fortune telling anymore. Christians are plainly told in the B'rit Chadashah that one can not drink from the cup of Christ and the cup of demons at the same time!!! The Catholic church has enough splinters of wood to make up a few crosses. They also have enough "skin" off of the hand of Mary Magdalene (no she was not identified as a hooker -the Bible only says she had 7 demons cast out of her!)that supposedly touched Jesus after the resurrection that they could cover quite a few whole skeletons. She never touched Jesus. The Bible says she reached out to Him but He warned her He had not ascended into heaven. It is extremely important that our high priest on the order of Melchizedek would not be defiled by touching anyone sinful before He went to the heaven to sanctify the altar there. She understood Christ when he said not to hang onto Him. When Lucifer fell as lightening from heaven he literally even tarnished heaven itself just by his mere presence and all that sinfulness. When Satan fell he took a third of the angel with him and he led all of mankind into sin. Only the blood of someone sinless could be the atonement. I love many Catholic peoples in my life. My fathers family was Catholic. But Mary didn't die for anyone's sins. Praying to her can do nothing when the Bible tells us that Christ is our only mediator between us and God. we are to pray to God by way of Christ(in His name). Clear concise and specific. All these made up stories are just so absurd. God says what He means and means what He says in the Bible.Jesus was born a Jew and He's coming back as a Jew to rule and reign over Israel for the promised 1,000 years. He kept within Hebrew laws as set forth in Scripture (not the stuff rabbis and pharisees added later on). He was totally in control over the timing of His death. He told Pilate for this purpose I was born and came into this world. He's making His return very soon. BTW The New Testament blames the devil for influencing the men responsible for killing Christ (if the princes of this world [powers and principalities]knew was they were doing they never would have killed the prince of Glory). Not the Jews or even the Romans knew Who they were crucifying. Jesus asked God to forgive them for they know not what they do. If God forgives someone we should also.

@nommynupple Well, according what you're saying you aren't a true christian either since you watched it. And I don't think that there is something like "true" christian. Cause if a christian wouldn't be true, what would he be instead? Untrue? But wouldn't he then in turn not even be christian? I think among christians there are only "regular" christians and ignorant fanatics who lost all sense of reality. You choose which you want to be.
