What a wonderful song! Mylène sings it at each concert and I can tell you that she puts all her emotion into it. Often the audience sings the chorus and it's just beautiful. Watch the "Ainsi sois-je" from the 2019 concert and you'll understand. Thanks Dereck for this reaction.

Been to France soooo many times, since asmall kid in the 80's! And have seen her live twice-once in he 80's in 1989 + once in 1994! This was such a big hit getting in top 20 in 1988 + then a hit when re-released in 1997 in France + Belgium. I always wanteda collab between her + Kate Bush but didn't happen. 😌

Glad that you finally react to the original version of Ainsi soit-je... Today, fans are only talking about the récent piano/voice version lives. But they tends to forget the original mix. This is this version that made me fall in love with the song. The first Time I listen to the whole Ainsi soit-je's album, I keep listened the song in repeat all the night. This is not my favorite Mylène song, but this is the only song that I keep listened all the day the first Time I discoverd it

Happy New Year! 🎊🎉🥂🍾🥳 It's my favorite in this album and especially my fav version of this title compared to single version (7"- 45RPM). This song "Ainsi Soit Je..." (And Either I) was released on April 4, 1988 taken from her second and eponymous album as a second single after "Sans Contrefaçon" (Without Counterfeiting), 150,000 copies sold and ranked no.12 in the TOP 50. Even if it is one of the rare singles below the TOP 10, it will have a good broadcast on radio at the end of May 1988 by reaching 4th in Airplay France. For Mylène, it's the first ballad in her repertoire, a melancholic song, but also a risky bet to release this title after the sulphurous "Sans Contrefaçon" (1987) reaching the charts (no.2 in TOP 50).It evokes the loneliness, the sadness as well as the evil of living. Mylène already had the writing in October 1987 for this song long before the recording of the album. She told Elsa Trillat who was a journalist and photographer at Paris Match by reading her the words. She had also attended the development of the tube Sans Contrefaçon the same summer when she was with Mylène and Laurent Boutonnat on vacation in a villa in the south of France in La Garde-Freinet (Var-83). According to Mylène, the music video is meant to be simple, shot in 2 days at the Studios Sets de Stains in the Paris suburbs where many videoclips were shot in the 80's and a few in the 90's. Il a bien raison ! J'ai longtemps ignoré cette artiste (que je pensais être chiante, dépressive, etc... l'image habituelle des parodies), et avec ses réactions il me l'a fait justement redécouvrir. Au début, je regardais les morceaux que je connaissais bien (Libertine, Désenchantée. etc...), mais par la suite, j'en ai regardé d'autres en me disant à chaque fois "ah je connais ça, c'est chouette !"... et après bon nombre de morceaux comme ça, je me suis dit que je devrais bien écouter sa discographie pour me faire une idée... Et c'est une des meilleures décisions de ma vie, parce que c'est absolument fantastique, la qualité des textes, des musiques, de la production est incroyable ! Et j'ai redécouvert la personne aussi, bien loin des clichés, intelligente, drôle et bienveillante, ce qui est rare quand on a autant de succès. J'ai longtemps un peu méprisé ses fans, maintenant je les comprends et j'en suis même un, et je me dis que j'en ai mis du temps !
