ZZ. Why not buy a used Cayman and budget for repairs? Their value plummets like a stone after about 7 or 8 years because that's when the heavy maintenance starts. That would seem to be the smarter plan. Plus, the 718 has a 4 cylinder engine, depriving you of that magnificent flat-6 exhaust note.

140k for a Cayman is a bit expensive. Could have gotten a base Porsche 911 brand new for a solid 15k cheaper.

So many valuable life lessons in one short 8 minute video. You should retitle it "Thee Video Everyone Should Watch at least once". I think we all can get caught up on "lost opportunity cost", but we have to remember, it is 'OK" to make that cash purchase you've been dreaming about since childhood. Otherwise, what is the point of doing any of this?. Allow yourself to enjoy things.

A car is always a money pit.

I found this video because I, too, want a 718 (still can’t decide between Cayman & Boxster) - probably next year for my 55th birthday. I’ve worked extremely hard for 36 years; made a lot, and lost it all (2008 crash & divorce). I’ve since built up my net worth to pre-crash levels, so feel it’s time to finally buy my dream car. Thanks again for this excellent video, and all the best to you in the future. BTW, I’m an Aussie, too - based in Melbourne. 👍🦘🇦🇺

Exactly. Must have had every option. The base Cayman is $63,000 or so. That with maybe a couple options is really all anyone really needs. The rest are just “wants.” The base Cayman makes the depreciation differences much more palatable.

Interesting video but a few points. If we all acknowledge that buying any car is a loss making venture, how can you call it an investment at the same time? A brand new cayman s is not a car that will appreciate in value but I think you already knew/know that. You also stated it was a life long dream to buy an exotic car then you said later it was a spontaneous purchase? I fo like your assessment of what you could have done with tge 140k but, as a car guy, I absolutely get it ! Great car BTW...my dream car is going to be tge a45s amg in about two years time when it's depreciated 😃😃

HAHAA many good points there my friend! We can go for a cruise in 2 years time when you get your dream car, you will just need to slow down a bit in that monster 😂😂

You can make the money back relatively easily but impossible to make the time (and accompanying happiness) back. God bless us all.

you've already won by manifesting, achieving your goal and enjoying it in the present moment. which will last a lifetime in terms of the happiness and memories it's brought you. $ circulates.. I've felt the same inner accomplishment & gratitude with my Mercedes amg, & the journey she's taken me on, ppl met, getting to my destinations faster lol etc. :D
