My Wildlife Garden - Two Year Update

My Wildlife Garden.
Listen to BBC Radio Sheffield's The Grow Show where I talk about bringing life back to my barren garden on BBC Sounds: www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/p0f...
My name is George Smallwood. I am passionate about all things wildlife. I live in Sheffield.
Previously I lived in a end terrace house where I had a small garden which I transformed into a wildlife oasis. Bird boxes, a stream & pond, a hedgehog house, a bug house fence and a shed that won shed of the year in 2018. I was lucky enough to appear on BBC Gardeners World in 2021. Following such a great response I decided to make a KZread channel to show all we have done and all we are going to do.
We have now moved to a house that has plastic grass and gravel for a garden and zero nature value. This is the journey of bringing it back to life.
I also keep bees and decided to make lip balms using all natural ingredients.
We're very proud of them and the bees continue to thrive.
Thankyou for watching

Hey George, I just discoverd your channel and (almost) binged all your video's. You have a very nice way of making it natural but also beautiful. I just got a house with a garden and want to implement some of your idea's. Just hope i can make it as nice as you, prob not :'). Like the upgrade with your camera, the HD really adds to the videos! Keep it up!! I'm really jealous about your tawny owl. I have put up a box (there are some tawny owls in the area) and just hope they will accept the box this winter! Cheers

Hi George, I have only just discovered your channel. It is a bit of a mystery to me how youtube decides which videos and channels to suggest I might like to watch. I have recently started a channel about my journey wilding my garden, having been a conventional gardener all my life so it`s lovely to see another channel where someone is gardening for wildlife. There are so few of us, it seems. Your ivy is amazing! It is a fabulous plant for wildlife. I have some, but not as much as you. I`m looking forward to watching your past videos. Best wishes, Isabel

I agree. It's not long since UTube suggested your channel to me Isabel, to which I have subscribed. This is the first time I have seen this channel and of course I am subscribing. I love wildlife. I am doing my best in my own garden. I had tree bees in a bird box last year. Lots of different birds and a hedgehog. Just bought some ivy to try and get going this coming spring. 🐦🪱🍄🌿👍👍👍

I’ve got to say this is one of the best wildlife gardens that I’ve seen. Are the beehives for native honey bees or are they of the domesticated European imported ones? I’ve been told that the UK only have one true species of honey bee which is extremely rare, so I’m guessing it’s definitely not that species. I’ve only been into wildlife gardening for the last 3 years, and have this afternoon picked up so many ideas from your incredible wildlife garden. Thank you 😊

Hi. Thankyou so much. You're very welcome. The bees are a combo. Some are buckfast bees which are a very lovely bee. The others are ones which are trying to be bred as a native South Yorkshire/UK bee. All of the UK bee species were unfortunately wiped out by Isle of Wight disease. I think gardening generally is great but so rewarding to create something for wildlife that they then use. Still no frogs in my pond but I did see a newt the other day :)

Smallwood bees without the bees? How about Cuckold bee keeper told by wife that he needs to transform his death trap of a garden back into a usable space.
