My VIRAL Bowl Method Routine For Frizz Free, Bouncy Waves

Links to all of my products: shopmy.us/soph... 💛💛💛
00:00 - Introduction
00:51 - Bowl Method
05:28 - Plopping
07:36 - Diffusing
12:31 - Results
So I used to think I had straight hair...but once I realized that my "puffy, frizzy" hair was because I was brushing out my waves, I started looking into wavy routines! This is my go-to bowl method routine, adapted for my wavy hair. I do this method almost every wash day because it always gives me even, consistent results, and it is the #1 method I recommend to people who are just starting out on their wavy hair care journey.
Steps:
1) Leave in Conditioner (if using)
2) Curl Cream
3) Dunk and Squish ~4 times
4) Microplop
5) Mousse
6) Plop
7) Diffuse
8) Scrunch out the Crunch!
It may seem like a complicated routine, but once you get the hang of it it's actually super easy. I find it to be a lot quicker than section styling my hair. The bowl method part takes me 3-4 minutes, and diffusing with heat takes around 25min!
If you give this a try, let me know how it goes for you!

    1. Detangle by brushing hair with conditioner in while in shower 2. Wash out, finish shower and grab bowl with three cups of water in it 3. Hand rake hair over head 4. Spray Leave in conditioner 5. Hand rake product through hair (can use brush if your hair tangles easily) 6. Make sure back of hair is fully detangled 7. Apply Curl cream (she uses quarter size +) 8. Finger rake through 9. Dunk hair in bowl, full dip then out 10. Scrunch and firmly squeeze and pulse to get squeeze out as much water as possible into bowl 11. Dunk and scrunch again 3 or more times 12. Stop dunking when hair feels slippery (seaweed like) 13. Scrunch with Microfiber towel 14. Apply tons of mouse 15. Plop hair in tshirt and leave on for 15 minutes 16. Sit down, unplop hair upside down, squeeze out any extra water 17. Set blow dryer to high speed medium heat with diffuser and blow all over 18. Pixie diffuse, only turn on dryer when hair is IN the bowl - turning off and on 19. When 80% dry, roll hair side to side and continue pixi diffusing (15 minutes) 20. Gently roll hair to flip entirely upright 21. Set a part if your hair doesn’t naturally part 22. Pixie diffuse again 23. Break cast by scrunching with hair oil 24. Shake out roots

This is my exact story. I couldn't air dry my hair without it being frizzy and having weird random wave patterns but defined curls at the nape of my neck. God forbid it was humid out the full underside of my hair would swell and curl but the top would be just unmanageable. Weirdly I couldn't hold a curl if i tried to heat style but if I slept on it wrong or put it up I would hold the weird indent till the next time I washed it. I am in love with the bowl method, I cant really pick out my curl clumps easily but I don't have to with this method, the water does it for me! Not to be dramatic, but it's life changing.

Before the whole routine, i use any dry shampoo and comb it into my roots with a fine tooth comb if i have some oil. I’ve also seen a video where another woman added a small amount of conditioner into the spray bottle to make a leave in spray conditioner. That would save you some money. Hope this helps!

I stopped using dry shampoo; it irritates my scalp and often contains fragrance I'm allergic to (although DIY dry shampoo is ok, it's not effective enough really). My best refresh is just to reactivate my products that are already in my hair using DISTILLED water using a spray bottle. Sometimes if my hair really needs it I'll add a small amount of additional leave in. Then I usually diffuse a little bit. I can go for 3-4 days between washes using just distilled water and a little leave in conditioner. My advice is to stop worrying about your "dirty" scalp, unless you're actually doing a lot of activities that get you physically very dirty like swimming in the ocean or building a house. Even if you work out every day and sweat, you can still probably just diffuse afterwards. Washing my hair twice a week has really improved the health of my scalp and hair 😊🤷‍♀️.

However, I used a leave in and styling cream then did the bowl dipping then did a blowout (straight style) and my hair was soooo soft, hydrated, and manageable. I’ll keep using the bowl idea but not for curliness. It’s great for even product distribution!

WOW! Okay...I tried this. I lived the first 5 decades of life struggling to get curls - perms, curling irons, rollers....when Covid hit I noticed a change in the texture of my hair and thought I fried it off. But then after 2 years and with turning 50, it dawned on me that I MIGHT have had a hormonal change in texture. Voila! Been eyeballs deep in the wavy hair journey for just 2 months but find myself shocked at how naturally wavy my hair actually is. Now, for the kicker - I have had 5 spine surgeries with more on the horizon. This makes it really hard to hold my dryer above my head for long periods and hanging upside down, while it produces by far the best results is a huge challenge. I have super fine hair but LOTS of it. So the product experimentation struggle has been REAL. So far - this method netted the most beautiful results for me. I'll just have to save it for special occasions since it asks for a lot of bending forward. Thank you!!

So I tried this method today and realized my hair is more towards the curly side than it is wavy 😂 I have tormented my hair with flat ironing and dying so I knew this would be a hit or miss for me considering I had really curly hair as a child it was just bringing back the curl pattern to my hair. Either way I feel like I’d probably continue to use this method while restoring my hair back to its natural state ! Thank you for this so much ! My hair looks more like Sheryl temple curls but it’s still cute ! And a nice minimum heat way to style on wash days!

I have the same hair type as you and when my hair was longer I was always wondering how to make my natural curls look good and not like a bird nest. Though my hair is short now I'm currently working on regrowing it and will definitely try out this method when I reach the needed length :D Thanks!

I have a short hair cut, it's like a long bob, I tried this method 2 times: the hairs were more curly but still a bit frizzy and messy. So I tried to: apply the cream, repeatedly sink the hairs only for a half (only the tips), apply the mousse, and let it air dry. When completely dry I try to give a little volume to the roots using my fingers. The result was actually great. Thank you so much for this video! P.s forgive me for my poor English

Oh my gosh PLEASE tell me more about this "wet frizz" concept because I feel like I definitely struggle with that. Found your bowl method on IG, tried it a few times and got beautiful clumps very similar to yours, but saw some straggling strands that I didn't think of as "frizzy" at the time, but that's definitely what they were. Help!

You'd have to care for your scalp health, try dr vanita rattan on KZread, she is very informative, if a bit panicky about skincare. Also wear a satin scarf to bed, silk if you can afford and have no qualms about using it. It should prevent breakage. Use oils in your hair to keep moisture locked in after washes. I'm currently trying all these and seeing results little by little, but it should take months to get the hair I really want. Good luck!

Sometimes wet frizz can happens depend on the products you use. Ie not getting enough moisture , products build up , protein overload, or the way you handle ur hair in general (meaning you could be rough with ur hair ie when u wash ur twisting or rubbing ur hair in a way that causes breakage which can equal frizz - same with hair u dry it if ur going in with a towel and rubbing the towel on ur hair vs a scrunch motion or squeezing) excessive heat can causes damage which can show in wet frizz. Look up what causes wet frizz there a girl on here that has a bunch of videos on it and how to correct it.

I have started my wavy hair journey almost two months ago and most of the first YT curly hair videos I have seen where of girls with way more curly than wavy hair. After doing intense research I bought everything and anything according to those videos (I go all out, out of excitement, when I try something new) and my hair never looks like their hair..Because ammm it's not like theirs! I'm so glad I found you, because I can really relate to your hair. When doing nothing - almost straight, sometimes few waves, when really trying - actually getting curls happening! I will be trying your method next time I was my hair and probably cut down on products hahaha Thank you ❤

I really wanted to like this method. I do love my waves but not my curls that look like an early 90s perm. My hair has been feeling and looking like straw lately so the suggestion for leave-in conditioner, curl cream and the bowl method itself made me feel hopeful that I found a solution. My hair did feel silky soft. I went and got a universal diffuser attachment for my hair dryer because I 'lost' my other one. I never wanted to use it because it gave me that tight-ish early 90s curl, so... with an open mind I tried again. Unfortunately, it didn't turn out like yours or any else who took pictures and videos. My hair doesn't look like the floopy, loose, glossy set of cascading waves. I have the look I hate: a full oversize, tight-ish curls from the top of my head down to my roots mess and looks like a put a giant bowl over my head. And the universal attachment diffuser wouldn't stay on and kept falling off. So I ended up crying from frustration. Good for you that your hair looks amazing - that is what my hair can look like but usually after an air-dry and a little brushing. Unfortunately for me, this method took me back to my tragic grade 8 look.

Okay, I loved this video. The only thing I did differently is I only shampooed and rinsed hair, then I already did the bowl method from the conditioner onwards. I have 2a type hair and I actually got a few curls! Insane. Now the only thing I'd do differently next time is the drying part on the front section of my hair. I have a shag and it needs to be parted before drying, it kinda looked crazy at the front section haha. Thank you so much for this instructional video.

  • @jaymarx8927
    @jaymarx8927 Жыл бұрын

Sometimes my hair looks almost this good after day 1. I use OUAI leave in conditioner and some heat spray to blow dry my hair straight and because where I live in SF is slaty sea air, it starts to curl on its own like within 20 minutes of going outside. By day 2 it’s a lot of curl and I use OUAI oil that Sophie uses in this video and scrunch it up to remove frizz and enhance curls. Sometimes it looks this good, or maybe 75% as good. But I don’t have to wash my hair for 4 days because I didn’t use a ton of product. It’s not really consistent day to day - sometimes really curly and sometimes almost completely straight, and sometimes gorgeous shiny waves, but I like a variation. I don’t spend as much time or wash it as much. You can use a curling iron or straightener to smooth frizz and enhance waves as well. That said, I want to try this to have special occasion hair or another tool at my disposal.

O...M...G!!! I should have done a before and after pic of my hair. I tried your method today for the 1st time and I rejoiced! I used to have very naturally curly hair when I was in my teens and early twenties. But after having kids and getting older, I'm 40 now, my curls seemed to disappear and my thick hair just started to look stringy. I gave up, thinking it was just part of life getting older and my curls were gone for good. OMG WAS I WRONG LOL! I tried your method before a date with my husband and not only was I shocked at my results, but my kids and my husband were too! I NEVER LOST MY CURLS!! I just didn't know how to style my hair anymore. Thank you for this video! As silly as this may sound, you helped this 40yr old put some pep back in my hair! It worked wonders!! By the way, have you considered doing a video on how to straighten our wavy hair? Ah!!! Thank you so much for this sweet comment 🥺 I’m so happy my video helped you!! None of that sounds silly-I’ve actually been able to help my mom embrace her super curly hair too since I’ve started learning about all of this! Anytime we spend caring for our bodies can be so transformative 💛 My most recent long form video shows how I do a blow out look using hot rollers! I never straighten my hair, but that’s how I get a “smooth” look :) The biggest thing with that (especially if your hair has a tighter texture) is to use large sections of hair. The smaller the section the more curl the roller will create! I’ve also had a surprising amount of luck for getting a smooth look using heatless overnight curls! Legging curls has been my favorite, and it doesn’t require buying anything haha :)

I only recently discovered my hair is wavy and have started to try different methods to bring out my natural texture. This has been the best so far for getting my clumps really nice and defined, but then as my hair is almost completely dry and I’m almost done diffusing, it’s a DISASTER 😢. Some of the gorgeous clumps turn into weird frizzy snakes, and when I flip it the back of my hair is a big mess of stringy, frizzy wannabe curls. I swear I don’t know what I’m doing wrong but I’ve tried 3 times and still no luck 🥺. Hoping someone has had a similar experience and can shed some light
