I have never “filled” a sketchbook. I have always used a sketchbook for keeping projects or jobs contained, keeping my art ideas for that certain project in one place. I have gone back and used a sketchbook that had many extra or unused pages. Either pulling papers out or splitting it in half! Sometimes the paper is not the best in sketchbooks, I don’t buy anything other than watercolor books anymore. I believe that even the cheaper watercolor sketchbooks have very good drawing paper, so you can not go wrong. I found this a very enjoyable video and I commend you on so many different subjects, I love your botanical pieces even the more abstract ones! Thank you for sharing and enjoy the rest of your day.

I’m so glad you posted this, because I’ve been trying to finish up a sketchbook I don’t really like that much so I can move on, but now maybe I can just... move on. I think I’ll be a lot happier with a different sketchbook, and now I don’t feel so bad about wanting to abandon my current one without finishing it.

Yes!! Totally relate. I had a tiny pencil case with a few pencils, a travel palette, and a little watercolor sketchbook last time I went backpacking. I would like to do something similar this time, but you are right - there’s always art supplies to buy! Haha. I may do some sort of travel art video now that you mention it. 💜💜💜

I love the videos you post, it’s helps me to be inspired and motivated to draw. I’ve been experiencing bad artist block lately and I’m trying to figure out how to get out of that funk. Btw that’s a good Netflix series, I also just finished another new series that was amazing

... you can just slowly fill it over years, going back and forth between newer and older sketchbooks. It’s not really a big deal. If the old book is an uninspiring chore start new. Just go back In The future rather than being wasteful. It’s more of a patience ideal than a ‘perfection’ ideal. I think if the paper doesn’t work as well find the best media that can work with that paper; I got one I despise the paper in but used it for rougher sketches and used what did work in it still. If anything it inspired me to work faster so I could move on to a sketchbook whose paper and format I preferred. Nothing wrong with dropping a book for even a long time I’m just advising to consider ‘finishing’ it eventually. Even if it takes 10 years or more. If you date the art you will also see the style and improvement over time so it’s cool to have a ‘time capsule’ sketchbook! I have a big one with paper I don’t love; I’ve been filling in slowly since 2007! I sometimes don’t even put more than one drawing a year in that sketchbook; or I do many pages! It’s cool to look back on it! I’m suggesting that putting it aside need not be abandoning forever! Fun video thanks!

I know some people don't approve of me abandoning my sketchbook, but I'm very happy and relieved with my decision! It's incredibly liberating to close this chapter (it's been a rough few months). Thanks for your feedback!

I thought I was crazy because I don't follow the sketchbook in order I just open a page and do it, usually because I carried it with me and I feel self conscious of my ugly practice drawings, but everyone tells me, no, you have to go in order and put a date on them, I am glad I found an artist who doesn't follow an order and it is true I am an adult too.
