My Unexpected Journey Into SUMBAWA | Indonesia Travel Video

One of the best things about traveling with no itinerary is the ability to go where ever you want whenever you want.
While I was on the Gili Islands of Lombok I met some people that were going to Sumbawa.
They asked if I wanted to join.
I knew nothing about Sumbawa, but I said YES.
It was a great, spontaneous, surprise for me.
We started at a local village, where I can guarantee most of the children there had never seen a Bule(foreigner) before.
Then we wanted to go to a mountain top with amazing views, but a rain storm ruined that for us.
So we jumped ahead to our 2nd plan, which was camping over night on Kenawa Island.
The next day we went to Moyo Island.
This is an island that only has electricity from 6pm - 6am.
It's the perfect place to disconnect and enjoy nature.
The beaches were empty, as were the waterfalls and awesome swimming holes.
I was only on Sumbawa for a few days.
But it was a cool experience I wouldn't have had if I didn't meet other people while traveling.
Most of this footage was spontaneously shot with an iPhone 5, sorry.
The better looking footage was shot with a Nikon D600.
Any GoPro Footage was shot with a Hero3.

A line of people waiting to get Instagramable photos…. I went to the Gilis back in ‘99 for the first time as an 18 year old. There were a few groups of bungalows here and there around the islands, but they were pretty quiet. The idea that they would become inundated with truly cringy tourists waiting to take photos in a hammock was unimaginable. The new generation of travelers has broken all the unspoken rules. They’ve made a mockery of the idea. They’ve told all the secrets that were meant to be kept. Kinda like you just did with Moyo. You clearly knew it was the wrong thing to do. And yet you went ahead and did it anyway. I’m sure you’re a really nice person and I’m really glad when I see people take a chance on the rest of Indonesia. It’s an astounding place with so many amazing spots to lose yourself in. You made the journey. You stepped out of the comfort zone. You deserved your time in that untouched spot. But why broadcast hidden gems for the rest of the world to come ruin? That waterfall may have vendors hawking and hammocks hanging (for your Instagram enjoyment) in due time thanks to videos like this. All I can say is what a bummer.
