I'm 71. My father was a strong labor organizer. He and his friends and community fought hard for many years. And then me and mine, that is my generation threw it away. As Reagan swept away everything, we sat by feeling helpless. We blew it! Now is the time to get very, very serious. I'm going to my loc precinct office and volunteer.

It is an excellent history lesson, but it should be expanded to cover 2 additional topics: 1) The decline of the separation of church and state ... the rise of white christian nationalism and the scam that is the so called evangelical movement lead by charlatan pretend con men scam preachers. This is a serious and ever growing problem in the USA today. 2) The complete dysfunction of the federal income tax system.....which has been hollowed out over decades and is largely responsible for the ever growing wealth inequality today. A couple of simple principles could go a long ways towards making the income tax system work as it is supposed to do ...1) all forms of income taxed the same, and 2) all taxpayers taxed under the same tax rules (ie. a corporate tax rules for everyone and every entity, including charities, religion, non-profits, etc.)

Professor Reich Thank you for lessons! A must see to remind people that the 1% with greatest income, assets and multiple addresses are are expanding an exploitive system that is causing great harm and trauma for individuals and families with incomes less than the Area Median Income of the city or town where they live. Education is the key, community discussions, consistent involvement, holding elected and appointed politicians accountable and most important voting. Remember poverty is the same regardless of race. Poverty is growing and the system is not providing equity and mutually beneficial outcomes. We need and require deeply affordable housing based upon 30% of household income throughout the USA to address homelessness. If the USA can invest in War the USA should, can and must create the economic incentive to create true deeply affordable housing for people working and receiving poverty wages as well as retired and disabled. As you can see I agree with the presentation. Again Thank you Professor Reich!

There's not a word of this that doesn't desperately need to be repeatedly imprinted upon the mind of every last American who votes and cares more for their country and its people than they do for their own personal greed, discrimination, and lust. If there is only one single most important meaning of life, it's without a doubt leaving this world a better place than you found it, even if such comes at one's own expense. What a wonderful world we would live in if only everybody believed and lived by such a simple yet flawless philosophy. Robert Reich accomplishes this fundamental goal every time he opens his mouth within earshot of anyone who cares to listen and take his profoundly selfless American wisdom to heart. America will always be a better place for having had Robert Reich speak the plain truth to anyone willing to listen and act in good faith to help anyone who genuinely needs it. Thank you, Robert! My dad, a lifelong Democrat, started his career in Commerce in the early 1980s, something I hadn't known until recently; all he would say about not working there long was that his conscience had been getting to him. I admire this, despite the fact that I might've enjoyed a different lifestyle had he stayed on. I wish more people would be willing to put aside potential enrichment of their own families when it comes at the expense of others'- the way Fred Trump, Jr. chose to be his own man, humble and true to his convictions. That's the kind of in-this-together mindset which enables human beings to build really great things which no one man could accomplish on his own. The spirit of sacrifice should be honored, not exploited. Donald Trump and his ilk are fools for devaluing and ridiculing virtue, and for using our own work ethic against us for so long.

@@theboyisnotright6312 If you look carefully, you'll see the reason the "Democrats don't move it back" is because they CAN'T move it back. The pattern in the federal govt is that whenever the President is a Democrat, the voters give us a split Congress (as today -- the House is republican & the Senate is BARELY democratic). This means the "republican Congress" can stop Democrats from moving it back. Look at the do-nothing republican House of Representatives. It's been republican for 2 years, but has enacted basically NOTHING -- WHILE also blocking nearly everything the Democrats tried to do. Biden is amazing since even while they blocked, he got some Republicans to help him (like Speaker McCarthy, who was then ousted for helping Biden). Now we see Speaker Mike Johnson is again an obstructionist -- blocking everything the Democrats try to do. History shows us that the republicans stop democrats from moving it back. Problem is, not enough people know this, and many people still don't vote. Prof. Reich does these videos, to fix both problems.
