and Germany shows, how the medicare for all can work very well if all people pay a some percent of their taxes. Edit: As some of you guys seemed having me misunderstood - what I posted wasn´t ironic. In my opinion, the german healthcare is by far one of the best in the world. But also I should mention the HC-system of other European social-democratic states (!! social is NOT socialistic !!!) like the Scandinavian countrys, Austria, the Netherlands and so on.

@@lynndaria7716 Your remark sounds as if you think we will all be paying more. The per capita cost of health care in the US is almost TWICE what other countries pay. We pay twice as much for much less. The problem is the profit. The ACA reduced the Insurance companies profit margin to 35%. It had been higher, but no one knows how much higher because the financial workings of insurance companies were entirely private before the ACA. Getting rid of the bloated profits of the private health insurance industry will save us money.

It's so great to hear you talk about the needs of the majority of the people of this country. There are so many horrible things trump and his senate do during the chaos he creates. People have been so beaten down it has taken a huge effort to get people to see one payer universal health care is possible. Higher wages, unions, education for anyone who wants one and more it's possible and better than giving money, tax cuts to the very wealthy. Thank you both for your efforts.

@D B-- Most people don't have the patience to watch Bernie (or anyone) speak for 30 minutes, sadly. Then there is the segment that won't vote for anyone over 40 or 50. They won't admit that experience actually IS a benefit when someone is running for POTUS. But that's because they are young and don't have much life experience themselves. Young people have an arrogance about their own ignorance, which they can't see themselves because they don't know just how many things they know nothing about.

I think if he does get into power it would be best if he did raise the military budget again though by only like 2% as a token gesture. Taxing the rich is far more important and would provide more than enough money for all the social programs.

It breaks my heart seeing Bernie at his age out there doing 3 events a day, literally spending every last energy he has... and for what? For the dumb Americans and the mainstream media smear his name and attacking him for being radical.... America really doesn't deserve him, yet he is our last hope for a real change.

At the same time sanders campaign was happening. Black lives Matter was working on the other racial injustice part of my brain. Bam. It broke thru. Reichs super simple way to explain complicated economic theory got me over the stupid “ taxation is theft” bullshit of the libertarian brainwashing. He dabbles in conspiracy theories, utters egregious falsehoods about the economy and engages in acts that reek of hypocrisy. Just as an example, Reich repeatedly blathers about the horrors of income inequality while, at the same time, collecting a paycheck well north of $500,00 plus speaking fees and book income - earning substantially more than the average American CEO who, in his opinion, are profiting off the backs of the working class. The problem with him and many other critics of capitalism is that they tend to be pretty rich themselves. After the riots in heavily immigrant communities of Sweden in 2017, Reich put the following message on his Twitter page: “Trump’s lies have consequences. 48 hrs after his comments on Sweden, riots broke out in an immigrant community.” Take a moment to appreciate just how ridiculous his comment was. He contends that a foreign nation’s president’s comments were so inflammatory that these poor communities felt compelled to engage in mass violence. The issue with the argument that our “racism” causes immigrants, people of color, Muslims, (insert victim group here) to riot is that it assumes that these communities are on the very precipice of violent behavior and one triggering event is all it takes for them to explode in heinous acts. This is what is commonly described as “the bigotry of low expectations.” How about the false claims he makes about the economy (you know....the discipline he teaches at the premier public university in the world.) Reich published an article in Salon stating that greedy capitalists had forgotten the “basic bargain at the heart of America” where employers paid employees enough to purchase the product they are selling. He claims that the recession of 1929 was caused by most of the economic gains going to rich elite (people like Reich himself) and not to the workers. A more articulate description of his argument is found in Karl Marx’s “Das Kapital.” This is an explicit falsehood. One brief look at the Historical Statistics of the USA would tell you that, in the years leading up to the Great Depression, wages across the board increased. In fact, labor’s share of the national economy has risen in the years leading up to practically every recession and has fallen during recoveries, relative to the share of the capital. This basic fact of Macroeconomics 101 is something that college freshmen understand - but seems to need to be explained to Professor Reich.

We need public funding of elections and if accept public funding you get the label of "clean candidate." I love Bernie Sanders and the people I learned economics from were also great humanitarians. They genuinely cared about the working class and the poor.

I have a great admiration for both Bernie Sanders and Robert Reich. Too bad that in Canada we don't have politicians of their level.

If you think he cares, if you think he's honest, or if you think that he's on the "right side of history," then you are a dangerously stupid person. If he cared, he'd know better than to advocate for the provably dangerous and disastrous policies for which he stands. If he was honest, then he would be willing to engage with people who could teach him how markets actually work and the results of what happens when you try to combat their nature. If he was on the right side of history, he wouldn't have praised breadlines or vacationed in the Soviet Union. He's an idiot or a fraud, maybe both. You're an idiot if you believe the things you said and you are fooling yourself if you think you care, but don't even understand the incredible detriment these men's ideals have caused to people historically. Just remembered Bernie isn't just dishonest with himself, he constantly lies to his constituents when he compares his democratic socialist ideals with Scandinavian countries. Not only is it a dishonest comparison, the prime minister of Denmark even said publicly Bernie needs to stop claiming that shit.

First of all, I've been studying economics before Trump was even being considered for a political position. His economic policies are horse shit, too. Secondly, assuming someone has been "brainwashed" or that Trump is "evil" compared to any other politician is a sign of some sort of cognitive impairment. Also, the level of worship in your comment is disgusting. No politician is worth praise, but especially Bernie. Any person who worships a politician is a perfect example of why democracy is a bad idea. Only the same idiots that think the USSR was awesome will be the people thinking Bernie was any good at all.

Bernie Sanders and Robert Reich are what Obama, who I do admire nonetheless, could have been had he not sold himself out for mass appeal. Compromising is necessary to get things done, but the system is rigged. We need regulation and not watered down and ineffective laws. 🐛 💦

I now realize I missed out on taking a class by Professor Reich when I had the chance. Dunno why, I saw how students admired you and yet was so myopic only taking Environmental Economics courses. This feels like the second best way to learn from you. Thank you.

And then his own party buried him in the primaries, and not only would be have beat Trump, but his reelection wouldnt be anything but an absolute certainty and his protege would have won the election after that. Instead we have to worry about the real chance of trump getting his fat ass back into the white house.
