My Trini Mom Cooks Channa & Aloo

INGREDIENTS LISTED BELOW ⬇⬇⬇ Hey everyone! This week my darling Mom takes over to share her version of "Channa & Aloo." This popular Trinidadian dish is a staple, and is prepared by most Indians who emigrated to Trinidad. I've grown up eating this, with a hot dal pouri, or even on rice if need be. I hope you like it and do give my Trini Mom a big thumbs up for her channa and aloo!

INGREDIENTS
2 cans of chick peas (540ml)
2 medium potatoes diced into 1 inch cubes
4 cloves of garlic finely chopped
1 medium onion finely chopped
2 chilies - green, scotch bonnet, scorpion, etc. OPTIONAL
8-10 curry leaves
1 tsp jeera/cumin seeds
2 heaping tsp Trinidad/Chief curry powder (or substitute a blend of Coriander, Turmeric, Cumin, Fenugreek, Salt, Fennel, Chilies all in powdered format)
1/2 tsp amchar masala (a roasted blend of coriander, black peppercorns, fennel seed, brown mustard seed and fenugreek seed)
salt to taste
2 tbsp oil
water to cover the ingredients in your pot

Awww your mummy is so lovely. Please get her to make more videos so I can get my trini cooking on. I'm trying to master dishes from all of the caribbean islands and this is a great start.

I just got the one that says curry powder it's kind of yellow in colour... it has a very generic name but it has a picture of a chief on it.
So I guess you are not trini! Since you keep saying your trini mom!

I'm Canadian, which is my nationality so I cannot be Trini since that is also a nationality, and we don't have dual citizenship. My parents were born in Trinidad, but they are now Canadians as well so technically even they are not Trini, haha! My ethnicity is South Asian, but family has been out of India for 4 generations 😁👍🏼
