My Top 5 Neighborhoods in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada - Edmonton Tour Guide/Information for Newcomers

This is my personal top 5 list for the best neighborhoods to live in Edmonton, Alberta. I am very biased towards the central core of the city, the neighborhoods around downtown, Whyte avenue, the university and the central river valley. I feel these are the most beautiful and interesting regions of Edmonton and there are many living options in this area. In this video, I cover the neighborhoods of Glenora, Oliver, Riverdale, Strathcona and Bonnie Doon. This is a list of my personal favorites, many others have contributed similar videos and I just wanted to add my two cents. I would like to cover more central core neighborhoods in another video down the road, and I also plan to showcase some cool areas of Edmonton that are away from the downtown/Whyte avenue areas.
As I was editing this video I noticed I repeat words way too much, in one 10 second span I think I say the word "area" 5 times. I will work on this in future videos, I honestly think this video is fine with the sound off lol.
I hope this gives you some ideas if you are new to the city or plan on moving here/visiting at some point in the future. Edmonton really has a ton of really great neighborhoods all over the city!
If you got some value out of this video please give it a like, and if you'd like to watch more of my videos please consider subscribing to my channel - I upload at least one video per week.
I am still pretty new at making videos and I greatly appreciate the support I have received, thank you everyone.
And thanks for watching, cheers!

Great picks! I grew up on the north side in Kilkenny in the 70s and 80s, and stayed in this area until around 2010. I liked it there when I was a kid, it was a new area and had very little crime. After 2010 I moved to the Mayfield area, and loved living on the west end, so close to the south side and river valley. I used to drive to Glenora just to walk through the neighbourhood in the summers to see all the beautiful yards and gardens. Thanks for the video, it brought back so many good memories for me. 😊

I have to comment. If it wasn't for Glenora, WEM would have had LRT service 40 years ago! While I respect, not in my backyard, the homeowners spent millions to stop the LRT project. Hence we have a valley line along stony plain road 40 years later. I'm sorry, I pay my taxes don't expect me to respect people who don't want progression. Apparently, they won...

Interesting, I didn't know that the neighborhood fought LRT expansion back then. I'm a big supporter of city trains just because they can really reduce congestion and cut down on the need for everyone to have a car. At least the WEM line is going through now, I hope it doesn't have a same ridiculous delays as the valley line. Cheers, have a great week!

I personally disagree with these choices, but it's a good list if that's what your looking for. Personally I like cookie cutter, new, safe neighborhoods on the outside edges of the city like Keswick, Heritage Valley, etc. When I want to go downtown or wherever for anything I have no problem driving to them , and returning to suburban life after

@@strangenorth Woah dude, I've lived in some pretty sketch bag areas where it wasn't merely crime stats but seeing flat out violent crime taking place when I lived in edmonton and while I always felt like I could take care of myself, that's not the point. When I lived in Canora I was in my 20s and quite able bodied. Back when I lived in Canora which has about the same statistical rates of assault and break and enter as Oliver does, that matters a whole lot more to the elderly and women with young children. Are you going to tell an elderly person or a mother with a young child that they're a pussy for wanting to avoid assault and break and enter? Normally I find your content interesting but holy shit dude, that response.

@@mysteriousfleas Hey thanks for calling me out on that - my response there was pretty cock and I didn't communicate my complex thoughts on the matter. I actually forgot I wrote that, I have been pretty good about replying in a balanced way but I have snapped at a couple people. Still adjusting to this massive wave of attention, I'm new to KZread and not on any other social media. I'm beyond frustrated with people running from urban centers because of crime. Yes, the issue is serious, but I truly believe decent people need to stay in these neighborhoods and fight for them rather than bitch about crime, do nothing and run to the suburbs. Just my opinion. And high crime doesn't refute the neighborhood being fantastic, Oliver has a ton to offer with a fantastic location and excellent amenities. But I get your point that there are groups that are more vulnerable to risks (elderly, kids, etc.) and I've even said to others that Oliver is great but honestly maybe not the best for families. But these were just my personal choices and I know people will disagree. I'm pretty embarrassed that I left that reply, it sounds silly but I had just said that to a friend a few weeks ago as were were arguing about Edmonton. He was disparaging living in the downtown area and I said "yeah man, living downtown is dangerous if you're a pussy". But it wasn't cool to reply with that in this case, you're right. I really am trying to provide information and value (and some opinions) to people and I strive to communicate well and correct my mistakes. The commenter raised a very valid point and I should have taken the time to respond in a far more nuanced way. Like I said, thanks for calling me out - I honestly forgot about writing that and I don't want to make too many mistakes like that. Cheers

Yeah, I lived in Oliver for close to 30 yrs, and it's changed quite a bit. I've seen my fair share of neighbors move away because they were tired of getting their vehicles broken into and their tires slashed, not to mention not wanting their kids growing up there. The final straw for me was the loss of my area's character to indiscriminate urban development.
