My Top 10 Medical Apps + Websites

Best Medical Apps (Websites) for doctors
BNF
The first app is the BNF, British National Formulary that references information on prescribing drugs, pharmacology and interactions. I use BNF frequently to confirm drug dosage and interactions before prescribing a medication.

RxGuidelines
Treatment guidelines is a Medical App that enable doctors and other healthcare professionals to access local antibiotic guidelines. It is a useful app that guides your treatment of common infections. An alternative App is MicroGuide
GP notebook
GPnotebook provides concise and up to date information for General Practice. It is a useful website as you don’t have to search and read through pages on the internet to find relevant information on a clinical topic.
MDCalc

It is a useful tool to calculate the Well’s Score for DVT and PE. The App is easy to use and provides information about the scoring system and what the score means.
Medscape
Provides the latest medical news for doctors and healthcare professionals. If you want to catch up with the latest news in your specialty, Medscape is an amazing resource.
RCGP
The RCGP provides a wide range of resources dedicated for doctors working in primary care. There are elearning courses, Essential Knowledge Updates & Challenges and hot topics.
Patient.info
Accurate and up to date resources for lay person and professionals. Print PIL or signpost patient to website. Useful for GP registrars preparing for their exams to learn how to explain medical condition in lay terms.
Microsoft Teams
With the pandemic, virtual meeting has become normal. For example my weekly VTS is held on Teams, online software that makes teaching possible remotely. An alternative video conference software to Teams is Zoom which is more simple to use with better user experience.

Why is it such a taboo for doctors to look at computer screen to check or double check the dose or treatment. A patient should be more concerned if a doctor specially newly qualified one isn't consulting the vast scope of diseases because then more errors are likely. How do you think this kind of patient attitude can be changed? So that doctors feel more comfortable ,confident and empowered to practice evidence based medicine without having to worry about being taken as judgment for being incompetent or lack of knowledge.?

Checking a dose or consulting the latest guidance should definitely not be perceived as a sign of weakness. It is actually good practice and ensure quality care.
