My (Too) Large Tea Collection 🍵 Declutter & Organize With Me

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

I love tea. A lot. And I've gotten into the bad habit of hoarding it and letting my, already pretty extensive, collection overflow. It's time to do something about that! In this video I'm going to (gently) declutter and reorganise my tea collection, to make it more accessible and the space more functional. Enjoy watching!

I really enjoy diving into history to find out how women went about their beauty and dressing rituals in days past. Vintage and history-themed videos are my little passion project.
You'll find a bit of lifestyle content here as well, ranging from cozy chats over a cup of tea (my beloved Tea Time videos) to personal vlogs and home & interior videos.

Loepsie: I have way too much tea. Me: Looks nervously at the two big shelves stuffed with tea in my kitchen. From one tea aficionado to another, I suggest minimizing the number of teas you have open at a time. I like having one black tea (usually Earl Grey or chai), one green or white tea, and maybe two or three herbal teas to use at any given time. This forces me to actually use up teas before opening a new one and tends to prevent having a bunch of almost empty tins.

Oh boy, if I had the money, I'd be about in the same position as you 😅 One thing I've done with some of those older, back-of-the-cupboard teas is make them into ice cubes! Since I know that after a while, tea does get stale, so it won't reach its full flavour potential even if brewed and enjoyed correctly; I'll brew them normally, let it cool, and freeze them! That way, whenever I want some iced tea drinks during hot summer months, I can take out some cubes and combine them with either cold water, sparkling water, other teas, milk, lemonade -- whatever suits it. While hot tea will always be my favourite over iced, it makes me feel way less bad about binning teas that I could still enjoy in other ways, and it feels more... I don't know, respectful? Why am I concerned about disrespecting tea 🙄 Much love from Canada ♥♥♥

I use the one-time use paper tea bags to cold brew my loose leaf tea during the summer (I sew them shut - just fold over the top and baste it shut). I get cold brew tea from Adagio as well, but sometimes I just want some of the loose leaf stuff I already have to cold brew for summer. I also like the idea of making tea and then freezing it into cubes - someone I recently spoke to uses his frozen tea-cubes in smoothies instead if ice to give them a fuller flavor. He also bakes with tea which I find a very interesting thing to do!

I used to store tea in bins just like that in an upper cabinet! I switched everything to a drawer (not even a super deep one) and that worked much better for me. Labels on top of all the jars and no double-stacking, so I could see everything. I do have one small tin with the individual sachets lined up, but most of my tea is loose so there aren't many of those. I most save the little individually wrapped ones for traveling. One thing that I'd like to incorporate is adding the "date opened" to the label. Teas lose potency after a while, especially any that are flavored with spices or fruits. Having the dates might encourage me to use them up before they get too old.

I have two shelves with spice rack organizers full of tea. I also like to buy cute tea cups from antique stores. Safe to say my tea/cup stash takes up about a third of my cabinet space in my small apartment kitchen. My husband and I have tea time every day at his first work break in the morning (he works from home), so we do go through plenty of tea on our own. I think it’s a very nice routine, especially since we don’t eat a true breakfast. It sort of works as a tea and snack time a couple hours before lunch.

On the overly long counter you leave whatever you don't need - mixing bowls, CD's, food-stuff, clothing, electronics - you leave it on the countertop. If it hasn't been picked up in a couple of days, into the bin or the donation box it goes. - Cathy (&, accidently, Steve), Ottawa/Bytown

I don't have such a big tea collection but I need to get my kitchen organised as we get another big kitchen counter/plate this week (we're trying to get one for a year now, but as they tend to be large and heavy we couldn't get help from friends to carry the large plate). There are also some really random storrage compromises like cartboard boxes for food items and low standing couch tables for kitchen items that need to be gone. Somehow the absence of the second kitchen counter really numbed us in organising the kitchen in a sufficent and pleasant way until now.

Funny, I just tidied my own tea cupboard up a couple of days ago! I do go through now and again because some teas just lose all their flavour if they're opened and just sitting there for years and as you showed, we just go "off" some teas sometimes. I think I might have to get one of those presentation boxes, though I have resisted for a long time - my small and varied quantities are stuffed in two decorative jars and it would be a better idea to give guests a clearer choice, like you do! Sitting here with mint tea this morning, as feeling a bit queasy... ;)

Organization and tea? Why yes hello I fit this niche perfectly. It's so fun seeing other people's tea collections! Instead of a cabinet, I got a little stand in the corner for my tea things so I could see them better. Otherwise I'll forget they exist 😅. Speaking of mossy teas, I got this one sample (coincidentally also from Adagio Teas) called Pu erh Dante that tastes like bog water. Like actual water from a bog. It's not exactly bad, but I would only drink it when I was in a certain mood. Anyway, great video, keep up the good work!

Not sure if it's been mentioned in the comments before; matcha is best kept in the fridge! The better quality matcha are bright green and less bitter than the lesser ones (which are much duller in colour). I used to get those, before I discovered what a good matcha is supposed to taste and look like. Do you drink some of your teas with (plant) milk? I used to never have milk in my tea, but then moved to Australia 6 years ago (I'm from Belgium originally, hallooo), and learned to drink the black teas with milk (plant milk because I'm also vegan). And now I can't believe I ever thought tea with milk was weird, haha.

the tea will basically never go off as in get moldy (if stored properly)but it does start to lose the flavour after like 1-2 years imo. It also depends on how it's made and if it's only flavouring or actual flowers/real spices/pieces of fruit. I've drank Lipton teas that were years out of date but tasted just like the new bags, but have had expensive "real" teas taste bland after a year. It also depends on the jar. All of this is just my opinion as an avid tea drinker! :) So like, if i were you, brew a cup and taste it, it could still be good!

My trouble is, if it's a tea I enjoy and I'm down to the last bag/serving, I don't want to use it up so I end up with a giant cabinet full of mismatched bags/canisters. I too started working my way down but I still have a long way to go 😆

This video has just made my morning!! I need to fix my tea collection too but I don’t have the heart to toss things :( also, I’ve heard it’s good to store matcha in the fridge? To help it keep for longer. I don’t really know. Anyways, love the video!

A friend of mine just gave me some tea flowers recently. She was wondering what the tea with the purple flowers is called that's famous in The Netherlands. (She went there like 10 years ago and fell in love with it. It was like a honey and lavender type of tea with purple flowers and she can't find it anywhere here. I tried looking for it last time I was in Amsterdam and couldn't find what she was talking about.)

I'm not aware of any famous teas with purple flowers, I'm afraid! As far as I can tell the most popular teas over here are English blend, green tea (possibly with lemon) and fresh mint or ginger tea. Honey and lavender doesn't ring a bell

Serious question how would you recommend getting more into tea?? Tea is my hot beverage of choice but it takes me so long to do through it. I currently only use bagged tea, and I know that's really bad for the environment so I wanna get into loose leaf tea. What do you suggest??

Find a kind/flavour you love so you'll want to drink it! I started out drinking only fruit and herbal blends, and only got into the more bitter black and green teas over time. I'm still not a huge fan of "plain" teas though, I never drink plain black tea as I just love all the different flavours they add to the flavoured ones too much 😊

Hello :) I love your channel! It's quite a joy to see what you make. I have quite a bit (80g) of rooibos earl grey that I've been trying to give to someone who would enjoy it. It wasn't my fave, I'm more of a green tea drinker. Would you like me to send it to you?

I personally don't like that you can't see what is in the baskets at first sight. Maybe it will be easier to put it just loose in the cabinet and keep the small amounts in the front to use it up faster? Just thinking at loud... Love your videos! Thanks for entertainment :*

With all the tea you drink, how do you keep your teeth so white? I struggle with stains even with proper dental hygiene. Also, I find if helpful to keep a box for odds & ends at the front of my cupboard. If I'm being indecisive about tea that day, I have to pick from the leftovers box!

Hahaha last time I went to the dentist I heard him mutter "tea stains..." as he was reading through his patient notes, so I do believe it shows at least a little 😂 But I don't do anything special aside from using an electric toothbrush, which does help a lot. And I also drink lots of rooibos or herbal blends, only a few cups of green tea per day and black tea only a couple times a week.
