My Tire Blew Out While on a Rattlesnake Call!

Flat tires and rattlesnakes don't mix! Bryan has to run a mile to get to a Western Diamondback that is hanging out in a Scottsdale backyard. Marissa is also sent out on a late night call and finds some interesting critters!

@@libbylandscape3560 Kind of like the backpacks I've seen advertised for carrying a cat (or a very small dog?) on a walk. Has a clear, half bubble on the outer side, can be worn as a front facing pack. They were very expensive don't know if still available. Snake pack.

Dear Bryan, I have a complaint. Was that a GORGEOUS gila monster in the brush, right before you released the flat tire snake? I am going to replay this video to confirm that I didn't hallucinate the Gila monster, because I know you would usually focus on it for a minute, & say a few words. Perhaps Jeff edited that part out? Another great video. So much great content in just a few minutes. Beautiful shots of the desert, the night sky, & of course, 🐍. Blessings to the RSS team.

We'll discuss this in the future :) There are a few reasons why that was just a show more than a tell for now. It's something we need to also kind of talk about more internally to see where we land on a few things. Basically, it's sensitive information so want to carefully proceed. In the meantime, we shared what we could :)

I was visiting the Phoenix area this weekend. I spent some time up north at The Boulders. It's so beautiful out there. A storm came in over the desert late in the afternoon Saturday. The lightening out there is very different from the lightening we have back home. You see it top to bottom. Then the sky cleared up as the sun set, reflecting light off the tiny rain droplets in the trees, making them they look like they were strung with tiny orange lights. It was all very picturesque. That smell, not sure what it was, but the desert seems to have a distinct smell after a hard rain. I only wish I had time to go explore and look for critters.

Just had a question. Im trying to educate myself about snakes and learn as much as i can about them. Ive noticed some snake collectors who have gotten venomous snakes who were wild caught. To me that seems cruel and harms our ecosystem since snakes are natural pest/ rodent control but if im wrong please im open to being better informed. Ty and i love watching ur videos

You're thinking correctly here. In most cases, it's not necessary to take a wild animal from its environment for the purposes of keeping it as a pet. Even with rattlesnakes, in most cases, captive born individuals are available and typically it just takes some networking and time. However there are some situations where it is warranted. For instance, we have a pair of Arizona Ridgenosed Rattlesnakes collected from the wild under very particular conditions (which we requested in our permits) that are to be bred to supply educational institutions with captive specimens. Ultimately, a single person taking a snake from time to time will not harm the population, as they are often predated by other animals, and it would not meaningfully impact numbers. What would be something to avoid, however, are wide-spread, random collection, or commercial collection. There are some people who come to Arizona every year to just take all they can, and that is unethical when not outright illegal.
