Love the folks with the AC snake, just casually there's a "Gila monster and a coachwhip living here." They seem like the best kind of folks to live in that spot.

I've learned a lot about snakes from this channel. I was able to rescue a juvenile coachwhip out of my neighbors garage using the same techniques shown here. Some water in the bucket and then released into the rocks. The neighbors have proclaimed me the snake guy now. I told them if it has fangs, I'm out😅

As a student and enthusiast of meteorology, I can tell you that relative humidity (RH) is always relative to the temperature and although 67% humidity is high for 95-100 degrees Fahrenheit (really high actually) the RH is always going to be higher in the early morning hours as the temperature is at the lowest it can be during the day and the lower the temperature, the less moisture it can hold. A better way to gauge the moisture content of the air is the dew point. Because the dew point (with no change in air mass) will remain constant if the temperature increases where as the RH will begin to drop. But either way the moisture level in the air remains the same. A good way to gauge it is, dew points below 50 degrees F, feel comfortable to most people. 50-65 starts to feel uncomfortable to most people, and anything above 65 starts to feel like bathroom/sauna type of humid. Here on the coast in Texas during summer I've seen dew points as high as 81 degrees during the mid-day hours and even with an ambient air temperature of 85, with a dew point of 81 that results in a heat index of over 100F. But you're absolutely right about the "actual" heat that Arizona has being a "TRUE" heat so-to-say, rather than just uncomfortable. I've spent many years living in both types of climate conditions (both dry and humid heat) and the humidity can absolutely dehydrate you by making you sweat profusely. So it's not just a "feels uncomfortable", it can be deadly as well. Just not as deadly as actual temperatures being really hot. Of course none of that humidity matters to the snakes as they do not have sweat glands. They absolutely just rely on actual air temperature and surrounding temperature of their environment to survive.

These videos make me homesick. I grew up in the east valley and I can’t wait to move back (crazy as it may sound)! I guess I was just lucky and only came in close contact with a rattlesnake once in my 30 + years there. I remember back in 1990 the valley hit over 122 degrees and there were dead rattlesnakes near the road that had died from exposure to the heat. I never realized until then how easily they could die from the heat.

When you clear 105 degrees, it's friggin hot regardless of humidity. I've been in 95 degrees in southern Utah and it felt like a very nice 80 degree day in St. Louis. So based on my anecdotal evidence 90-105 is when the humidity impact feels worse. Beyond 105 all bets are off. Stay inside in the AC if possible.

Advice needed please…I live in West Texas and we have a huge # of Prairie Rattlesnakes and more than normal # of Diamondbacks (approximately 2 feet long on average). For the first time we have been finding them in our chicken coop every few days. We relocate them to a canyon area with large rocks and crevices as well as shrubs and grass not far from a pond. My question is they seem to be getting in around the gate, is there something that snakes don’t like to cross that would still allow the gate to swing? Just trying to protect my young flock of chickens without harming the snakes! Thank you!

Jeff, you and Marissa both need some straw hats that you can pour some water over when you go into the desert to help keep y’all cool. A wet folded bandanna around your necks wouldn’t hurt either. It’s 118 in Phoenix and a chilly 109 here in Tucson today. When people use that “But it’s a dry heat “, my reply is “so is an oven but it’s hot either way”.

What are you people doing walking around in that heat??? A lot of people don’t know that Minnesota can get as hot in the Summer as it does cold in the Winter, but if we go over 100° it’s usually only a few times all Summer (we do get a lot of high 90°s). Phoenix, though, is crazy. I don’t know how you function outside, at all. You must drink a gallon of water an hour. 😳

The dry heat is true, but only to a certain point, and when monsoonal moisture starts cranking up the dry heat argument goes out the window. Anyone who has been here in July and August in a typical year knows that saying is a cruel hoax.
