Thanks for posting. It was interesting watching how the horses navigate the Western States Trail compared to the runners in the WSER100. Beautiful views of the scenery!

That is called "tailing." The thought is that dismounting while going up hills is easier on the horse because they aren't also carrying a rider for the effort. The rider gets a bit of assistance by the horse pulling them along, in theory making hiking easier. Personally, I am a terrible hiker and found tailing only annoys my horses by slowing them down.. so I stay mounted. Thanks for watching!

How have you been training for Tevis? I am interested and just beginning. I live in Kentucky. Is there anyone watching this from Kentucky and is there anyone interested in helping me train?

I didn't train any differently for this ride than I do any other. There are is a great group in your area called the Daniel Boone Distance Riders - I am sure someone would be happy to help you!

I have recently gotten into contact with them. I am beginning a program and hope to be ready in a year or so to compete. Love the video. You took me with you on your ride so to speak.

If you mean the grey horse we followed in a lot of the footage, that was the junior I was sponsoring! Not allowed to lose her. ;) There were some other places passing was a challenge due to terrain, however.
