My TERRIBLE Thai/British MARRIAGE

I interview James from England who tells the story about his marriage to a Thai woman. James met his ex-wife on Tinder in England and after a couple of days of dating they became a couple. James married his Thai partner and they moved to England where they had a child.
It was then the relationship took a turn for the worst. James claimed that his wife had lied and cheated on him numerous times. A child custody battled ensued and things got very messy indeed.

If I had 20 baht for every guy like this I've met over the last 35 years I'd be a millionaire. I long ago gave up trying to warn guys about certain girls as they just end up resenting you and accuse you of wanting to ruin their happiness etc. I was always right of course and it nearly always ended any relationship I had with the person as they were too embarrassed to admit they were blind to what was going on.

Marrying a Thai lady (a qualified nurse) who no doubt realised what a BIG mistake she had made once she found out his true financial position. Now he has a new woman in his life (with barely any physical contact) and expects to marry and support his second wife by selling second hand toys on Ebay. James needs to find either a permanent income to support a) his daughter and b) his current girlfriend or learn new skills to earn a decent income whilst in Thailand. If not I can see the exact same thing happening again.

Which is pretty much the same situation every young westerner in Asia is in, no matter if we are taking about Japan, the Philippines, Indonesia or Thailand. I'm my opinion being happy making less money is perfectly fine when you are young and single. With kids I'd try to to earn as much as possible and plan for the long term.

I fell in love with a Thai girl in a massage parlour. James..NO!😒😒 I've only listened for three minutes and I'm worried for you already :-( Sounds like she put you through the meat grinder. You say she was soft spoken and mild mannered. A good rule of thumb is never to take any notice of what words are coming out mouths, or how they portray themselves in the moment. Watch their actions over a period of time to get the real picture of what they're like, goes for all ppl. As for you not getting jokes and the humour there's nothing wrong with you. Over the last few decades the so called comedy, and the new breed of comedians for the most part aren't funny. People just laugh when they watch that stuff because they've been conditioned too. So don't beat yourself up about it! Anyway best of luck to you!

James was incredibly brave to put all that out there, and perhaps being on the Asperger's spectrum explains his frankness and honesty? Life must be incredibly confusing when you don't pick up on social cues and can't easily differentiate between people who are good for you, and people who are not. So despite what some commentators say this is not a typical Thai - Farang story, as James might not be equipped with the skills to pick up on red flags, of which there where many. I wish him well with Fah, whilst wondering if he's making the same mistake all over again?

Same age as me, just finishing a month here for my first trip outside the USA. I envy the fact you came here so young. I wished I had done this 20 years ago. 1982 for me. First international trip to Thailand January 10th 2024. Plane home leaves in about 6 hours. Man I wish so much that I had found this out at 18. But, at least I’m not 65 for my first trip and can still date attractive young girls here genuinely. Met one and had to leave after a week cause I was starting to get feelings. Learned on my first trip and not living here that emotions are dangerous. Man, legit 10/10 woman and all green flags. Not a bar girl or freelancer. But, I cut it after a week. Best week of the last 10 years with her in Phuket

There are a lot of issues going on here that we seasoned Thai expats can point out. But remember when you first come to Thailand you don't know a lot, everything is new. The first relationship is usually hard and it takes a few to really find a good Thai girl. I look back at my first years in Thailand and think man I was dumb I know so much more now.

This might sound cynical but it seems to me, that the cousins she was meeting in the first place, were really the other UK guy all along, and she hooked up with James to have an anchor baby to stay in the UK, as the other guy might have been too old or does not want children. But if she was a nurse, she shouldn't have had too much trouble getting a working visa for the UK.

Hello Pete, I think James burnt his fingers the first time with this Thai girl. The onlhy thing, if he goes to Thailand with his daughter. I hope he knows that the laws are different from Western laws, and if she knows that her daughter is with him in Thailand. She could go to the police station over there and she would be granted custody of her daughter..When I was looking for a property to buy. I was told if I marry a Thai girl. I could have no problem buying a property. But the house and the property would be in her name. Then I asked this question. What happens if the marriage does not work. Then I was told everything belongs to the Thai wife. So men please becareful.

My Italian husband sent me this. I guess no matter how good looking and rich he was when he was in his first marriage with a Thai. There would always be something wrong. I met him poor, it didn't matter to me that he couldn't give me the luxurious life he gave his Thai wife(he'd tell me about his past of how wealthy he was). But it didn't matter to me as long as he's a good provider and loving. There are materialistic women in every country in the world that would always only want your money. It's a little different than Filipinas because most of them are looking for men that will accept them for being sex workers and Filipino men don't want to settle with Filipinas that are passed around. Those Filipina always end up with foreigners not because they have high standards but because they were not accepted by decent Filipinos.

I'd also like to say, I understand your diagnosis and I have a very hard time in social situations also. Although I've never been diagnosed with Asperger's, I'm sympathetic to your personality traits and understand how you get into these situations. The denial I am talking about is a lot of things/behaviours from other people you talk about in the video that you are trying to justify on their behalf, instead of seeing them for what they are. I think internally you know what those behaviours really mean, but you want to justify them as something else and you want to put faith in what people tell you rather than seeing it for what it is. Sometimes you need to rip the band-aid off or suffer the hurt later on, which is usually worse. I hope you find happiness with Faa and that it all works out. You deserve it. Don't dwell on the past, but also make sure you take lessons from the past to try to avoid repeating the same mistakes in the future.

I’m sure there are stories of bar girl/ massage girl meets man in shining armour, who rescues her (Pretty Woman style) from her desperate circumstances…. But most likely nearly as rare as 🦄 excrement! So many guys think they can eat, drink and copulate their way to a happy life…. It most often ends this way! It is so sad and dysfunctional at both ends…. The girls, who usually come from financially bleak situations (often from rural or neighbouring poorer countries) and the sad romantic fools who are emotionally stunted and rather than working on a relationship, just want to short circuit the process of relationship building.
