Ginger was way too forgiving all around, but just in this episode alone. Like forget the lying to get on the squad. What about her lying to make her friends look like assholes to save her own self? You think those cheer girls wouldn’t go and spread around that Ginger and Macy “bullying” a girl in a wheelchair? You think that isn’t going to ruin your supposed “best friends’” reputations for life? I think this is considered peak terrible Dodi (I agree it’s not the worst. For me the worst is attempting to break Ginger & Darrin up cause she can’t stand Ginger having a shred of happiness that doesn’t include her) bc this episode is Dodie doing exactly what we all knew she would do. The second she got a whiff of popularity, she dropped her friends like hot, stinky garbage. Dodie is a only out for herself. She only cares about friendship and loyalty as far as it benefits her. She will use that “best friends don’t do that” line to guilt her friends into giving way too much while continuing to be the shittiest friend on tv. And I am once again tempted to write fix it fic where Ginger & Macy dump Dodie and take on Courtney full time as their best friend. Cause Courtney deserves a happy ending way more than Dodie does. Also, Dodie’s indignation at not being on the squad pisses me off too. Just the sheer entitlement. If I recall for the episode where they visit the high school, it’s not that the coach was barring Dodie specifically from trying out. It was a squad rule that freshman can’t try out. That is how the squad runs for everyone. Does she think she’s the only freshman who wants to try out for the squad? Does she think the girls on the squad now didn’t wait until the proper time to try out and then get on the squad? Why are you special, Dodie? Why do the rules change especially for you? There’s probably dozens of girls in that school taking that freshman year to hone their skills and then try out and make the team because they put in the time and the work. That’s what Dodie should be doing, but she’s not. Because she is used to demanding things (like her friends’ loyalty eh-hem) and expecting special treatment (like chewing out her friends when they dare to think about themselves for a change but acting like a victim when they call out her much shittier behavior) without earning anything.

I don't think Ginger has any obligation to help Dodie but the coach admitted she removed Dodie because of her past and not because of what Dodie did. Dodie is a teenager so I'm holding her to a lower standard, but she needs to learn not to put popularity before her friends.

Ginger had a good heart. Too good for Dodie.

I think this shows how good the writing in this show is. They created these characters, put them in situations and made them act the way they would considering their personalities. the problems are not always resolved just like in real life. Ginger is such a good person she keeps not even forgiving people, but acting like things didn't happen, and in he long run that has consequences.

I can't stand DODIE! I love how you called out Ginger being friends with her after everything.

Their situation is very similar to Penny Proud and all of her “friends”. It’s like how long are you going to put up with being treated like a doormat? Still love the shows of course but, yeah 😅❤

True. But at the same time, that’s why I didn’t understand the hate for lacienga (May be misspelled). I give her more credit than pennys other friends because she was authentically herself even though shallow. You knew she was fake and materialistic . Her other friends were trying to be pious but just as fake and materialistic as Lacienga. It gives me gossip girl vibes (Dan wanting to be an upper east side but acting like it ain’t all that; Jenny wanting to be an upper east side because of the perks and materialism.)

First: I love this video. Second: I think it should also be mentioned that Dodie didn’t stand up for Ginger when Dodie’s mother called Ginger’s mother a bad parent and her brother a delinquent. Essentially saying her kids shouldn’t be hanging out with them

The sad part is... Ginger has done so much for Dodie and I can name them off easily, but trying to even think of ONE thing that Dodie has done for Ginger out of the goodness of her heart? Nope, can't think of a single thing.

Because she's abusing the friendship and Ginger's good nature. But also why is mom not discouraging the friendship by now? Doesn't she know about most of these things?

I'd wager that Lois doesn't know. I doubt Ginger has told her about what Dodie has done over the years.

Dodie has always been terrible and I definitely felt bad for ginger in the high school episodes of this classic show and Darren was terrible for cheating on ginger with simone

This is a good episode review. I hardly remember this one but it reminds me of how Phoebe extended her cast wearing in Hey Arnold. Also: I don't know if Ginger is dumb when it come to Dodie, per se, but I wonder if because her dad left when she was young it's like subconscious abandonment trauma, so she just reflexively doesn't want to abandon anyone she is close to, even if they aren't the best person (and Dodie essentially abandons a lot of responsibility in the series, which ginger acts as the "fixer" for, which could be a kind of subconscious thing where "if I can fix things for the people I love, maybe they'll love me back in return".) I imagine if Ginger had a young adult series and she goes to therapy, she will stop being friends with Dodie and cultivate more self respect.

​@@oooh19 people have blind spots for people they spend a lot of time with. Folks might not realize they deserve better until someone with an outside perspective shows them an alternative. Doesn't have to be a therapist but what I mean is if Ginger went to therapy and talked about her childhood at all, one of the realizations (out of several others,) would likely be that Dodie was a low quality friend.

The "mean Ms. Zorski" is the cousin of the "Nice Ms. Zorski." As someone who works in teaching, a teaching staff saying "Life doesn't care about your appendix" is dark. I doubt it would get her fired but if I said something like that to a student I would probably get in trouble with my teacher or boss. Though the High School Ms. Zorski has no business being a teacher. She's grouchy, spends half her time drinking either coffee or tea, she probably only got the job because of the nice Ms. Zorski. Surprised a student hasn't taken Ms. Zorski's hot drink and throw it on her, either splashing it in her face or dumping it on a lap, though that could get you expelled. But besides that Ginger really got the short end of the stick here.

She also looks like she didn’t recover enough to go back to school too, I don’t understand why she didn’t stay at home a little longer, when Ginger stood up she was holding her side trying to talk to Dodie at lunchtime and has bags under her eyes. Let her go home and give her some painkillers.

I haven't watched ATBG in a while, BUT: *we* know that Dodie knew about Darren's little fling before Ginger did, but did *Ginger* know that Dodie knew (and kept quiet about it to avoid jeopardising her chances for the cheer squad)? All Ginger got was Darren telling her it was over cos of Simone.

I found this channel because I just like people calling out problematic friends in cartoons. I love the vibes here.

As someone that has been in the same situation as ginger (at basically the same age) I think a lot of it was being insecure and maybe a little too empathetic. And I don’t mean that in a self congratulatory way. It’s not good to be *too* empathetic. Even now I have a lot of trouble dropping people and giving them second chances because I always want to see the best in someone even when they’ve proven time and time again that they’re a snake. But in my defense I did basically ditch that friend in high school and stayed with my much nicer friends that respected me more. And I’ve gotten better about gauging people and their intentions. Tho honestly I still have a lot of work ahead of me.

Another thing to add to the list of Number of times Dodie was a POS. She took Darren's side when Ginger forms a protest to stop school funding for the arts being cut so the extra money can go to the sports.

First I want to say that I love your channel especially your beat tv sessions. Also I love love love that Avatar tattoo you have. Now in terms of this episode Dodie is a toxic friend and I don’t know why Ginger continue to be a doormat and constantly forgive her. After Dodie chose to keep quiet about Darren’s cheating Ginger should have been like “no we’re are done here.”

I came to your channel originally for the As Told by Ginger commentary, but stayed for your other commentary and personality. I look forward to seeing your new content! Also I think the note was a much worse situation, but there's also the one episode where Dodie, Miranda, and Mipsy start a plot to break up Darren and Ginger. That one is so messy!!

Peak Dodie©️ is definitely tied between trying to break up Ginger and Darren and not telling about the cheating. Some of her antics can be explained by being a dumb 12 year old who is somehow both emotionally neglected and smothered by her mother. But those instances? Nope. It goes beyond a need for genuine loving attention (which she gets from so many people anyway???)

If anyone on the Proud Family (Both original and Louder and Prouder show) is a fake friend, it's Dijonay. There's a video on this channel talking about the episode where Penny and Dijonay baby-sit all their siblings at Penny's house but straight up abandons Penny leaving her with both her siblings and Dijonay's siblings

Unpopular opinion, Orion is a better boyfriend than Darren Also is faking a medical injury illegal, I know it's a cartoon but how did she get away with that?

In the episode with the note I got the sense that Dodie didn't tell Ginger about the cheating because she didn't want to hurt her feelings. She wrote out the letter so she must have felt compelled to tell her and she seemed concerned. To me the worst offense was when she read out the names of the students with lice.

The worst thing is that Dodie would never do the same for Ginger. Dodie would drop her in a heartbeat if it meant the slightest chance at popularity.

Also, after she tried to break up Ginger and Darren she wanted Ginger to cancel a party for Darren that the whole school was attending because she couldn't go

Between the new Ms.Zorski in this episode and Dodie just being well, Dodie I could not decide who I wanted to see go away more in this episode both were downright intolerable to where I said "Umm just....no time to turn this dreg of an episode OFF"

Dodie was one of those characters that got progressively worse as the series went on

In terms of 15:20, you could always try to branch out. You could also learn how to attract people who are interested in what you are talking about.

It just looked like Nickelodeon (and MTV) got out of touch with the young people at that time. It happens. They at least missed the usual accuracy of how these sorts of things play out. But? I just think this show wrote their characters like this because the usual status quo was efficient enough to write this show. The Status Quo dictates no matter what.

Gopher=gofer. Someone who goes and gets stuff for the cheerleaders. They were basically hazing Dodie.
