A WOMAN has been growing her 14" super-long nails for nearly 16 years and has been designing them with colourful buttons. Janene Reed, 51, from New Jersey, was raised in a strict household that meant no makeup, no nail polish and no brightly dyed hair. When she became an adult and was able to finally express herself, she decided to start growing her nails - and hasn't stopped since. She's been growing her nails since early 2007 and they're currently 13-14". Janene’s favourite nail design is glued buttons to her nails that she has been doing since 2019. Janene gets a lot of stares and judgement but says she likes the negativity as it means she stands out. She's part of the Long Nail Goddesses - a group of women who are addicted to growing their nails, some up to 20" long.

Even though I like my nails long I couldn't handle my nails being that long. But her nails are pretty and if she can handle them and happy and her fiancee is happy that's good. Wish them much happiness.

Personally having these nails would really irritate me but each to their own! They're styled beautifully and so creative. Happy for her & her partner
She's not hurting anyone, absolutely harmless addiction, let her have whatever nails she loves, this is an addiction I can get behind, it's art and her way to express herself. Blessings to her. 🙏🏴♥️

I can't even function with nails that go a centimeter above my real nails
As an Occupational Therapist, I see the compensatory techniques that will eventually cause deformities in her hand joints and the need for someone to help her do a lot of the things she should be able to do on her own in the name of vanity. Not to mention the infection control issues. Cleaning with alcohol twice a week is not sufficient enough to control bacteria.

I love the button idea. So beautiful!!!!! And the long nail salon where everyone had long nails including the stylist was too cute 🤗. This video was just adorable. I'm glad she's doing something she loves and enjoys.

Wow! That's a lot of maintenance, I wouldn't be able to grow my nails even if I wanted to simply because I'm constantly cleaning the house or washing dishes and at the slightest bit of length they just break off.
I don't care what people do with their nails, mine are long to the normal person, but my only questions are 1. Don't they feel heavy? 2. Don't you get scared of hurting the nail bed since it's so long compared to the base of the nail

She can do whatever with her nails design wise as long as she likes it but what I don’t get is her purposely disabling her hands. The way she uses tools looks like someone whose hands are disabled or old an old person with no hand strength. I mean she can do what she wants but purposely disabling yourself just for aesthetics is very strange behaviour

I love nail art too but this is stops her from using her hands normally. Long nails is nice but everything in moderation. She seems happy though 🤷🏽♀️
I wouldn’t ever understand an aesthetic that debilitates you from being able to cook your own food. Theres no scrub brush… on top of that most doctors have proven this increased arthritis pain and possibility
Wow! Those are her real nails! I'm really curious how they take all the bling off for a new design without damaging the nail. My nails are fragile and I can barely grow them out so I get artificial ones until gardening starts.

It’s not the bathroom thing for me, it’s how does she pick up a coin? Even with long coffins I have a disadvantage with that. Can’t imagine how many coins she just says goodbye to. 🤔

I'm cool with people doing them but the amount of bacteria we carry under our fingernails is insane. There is no way she can get every nook and cranny of her nails clean. That being said do you, but I still think she could paint other things lol

I have natural long nails and the skin below the nail actually grows up and seals the area. Dirt getting under nails is literally impossible unlike with short nails.

@@nabywanieks No, but it's so much easier to keep them clean when longer. There's nothing that could stick there and normal handwashing is enough. Not sure about her length. Her nail color alone is already off-putting a bit.

$300 not much a month whoever do her nails gives her a great deal cause a set like this a nail technician will charge like $200 to $250 if she get them done every two weeks for the length and the rhinestones and how much polish they have use for a set like hers.

I have found my addiction to nails and the artistry that comes along with it I used to be a woman who wore medium length but trying the long nails open a new door I absolutely love them! You can get more designs it has more of an edge look and is quite fun challenging yourself to do things a little bit different comes to cooking , bathing etc . It's fun and I'm not going to lie when my nails are done a little bit more dramatic my man actually likes it .. and to hear yourself clacking when you talk with your hands I don't know it's like a fun overly girly overload

She came to my school today! She works with a company called Schools That Can. The first thing I noticed was her nails and EVERYONE was staring, she talks unbelievably fast yet I still somehow managed to catch everything she said today! Way to many accommodations are needed to live with these extremely long nails. You can’t clean these enough, and I ain’t gonna walk around with utensils to help me zip up my clothes/shoes.
