Brown Cardigan - Sezane XS bit.ly/3tpHwx7

SIZING REFERENCE
For reference, I am 160cm or 5'3. I wear an AU 6, XS. EU 34 and US 0 (I take one size down in US sizing). I am more pear shaped and often need to size up one size for pants for it to fit well at the hip. For jeans I am usually a W25, though depending on style, I also often go up to a W26.

My style journey: De-cluttered 2/3 of my wardrobe. Classic and comfy with very few trends. Majority are solid colors. If something bothers me regarding fit, color, etc. I immediately donate it. All these changes have resulted in a closet that I use and truly enjoy.

I resonate so much with your feeling about clothing styles: i went through severeal similar stages in my life: feel something too girly, somthing too much work formal, something too oversized, somethings too "stiff".... to now thanks to you, i understand why certain pieces just dont get me: too much structured vs my rather round shapes body, bettet with loose drapy stuff, when things are out of proportion (top heavy bottom heavy). Thank u so much

I just enjoyed this video so very much! I feel heavily inspired by Scandinavian dressing but at the same time I cannot give up on my Brazilian DNA. And that is why your style is such my inspirational one. You can always mix and match timeless pieces with pops of colours in elevated jevery/bags. To me that was the turning poijt on your style for sure! You are beautiful always, nevertheless

I think you're very right about Doen - the quality is great and it's beautiful but it can be hard to make it work together with other things in my wardrobe - I still have bought a few things but they're very versatile - their more relaxed silhouette shirts mainly!

My style has massively evolved over the last 3 years, and youtuble videos like yours and others have really inspired me. I take alot more care in what I wear, even if I am just going to the shops or even staying home. Marie Kondo said that one should always wear nice clothes even if staying home instead of just staying in your pjs or wearing sweats all day because if you look messy you feel messy and that really resonated with me and now I always make sure I look presentable. Another quote I saw is "dress in clothes you would run away with the Doctor (aka Doctor Who) in" and I love that. Your videos have inspired me so much with style ideas and combinations I wouldn't have thought of before.

It's fun to see you give the context of how your style evolved, you're always so analytical about your choices that I transfer a lot of your conclusions to my own style and they make total sense. I follow a few channels on KZread but yours has been the most influential for some reasons: first, you have this great yin/yang balance that I really like, plus an artsy kind of vibe the way you often pick pieces with unusual or interesting designs (like the "shell" bag for example) and also you wearing items in different/unexpected ways. Seeing your style evolution here it is extremely relatable, I would say my own has only evolved in an opposite direction with regard to colour... while you have ventured with more I have less and less, but it's what suits me better. (Btw you can rock short hair *and* long hair, it did not look flat at all, you looked amazing with the long hair!)

I think the shorter hair makes her look more sophisticated, which she is, and it's not that short in my mind, but then ive had some really short cuts. I don't want that now but I'd consider a cut like Helen's.

It’s so interesting to hear your perspective. I gravitate towards your earlier style but that’s just because I realize now I’m a hyperfeminine gal lol I tried to resist it for years but as I get older I notice I feel like myself in pretty dresses and cardigans and lots of pastels. I tried the more minimal and modern styles because I thought that’s what would get people to start taking me seriously and this way they would realize I was mature…lol but I guess I never felt comfortable because I was trying to be someone else.

Hey Jess! I think it's so great that you know you're into hyperfeminine style and that's what makes you feel the most stylish. I definitely don't think modern/minimal style is at all 'better' and whatever we ultimately enjoy wearing/buying is the best :) Despite everything I said in the video, I still consider my style to have a lot of girly/feminine touches so I can relate to anyone who loves a good dress/cardigan and pastel

My mood changes daily and that effects my style. I don't have rigid rules in my wardrobe, bc one day I want to look cozy in linen and the next, sexy in silk slip. One day in strappy heels, next week it's Tevas. The way you speak about your absolutes of your wardrobe is so foreign to me. But I love that!! ❤️ different perspectives of closet. I love your tips and style btw.

I love your current hairstyle!! It’s honestly the chic-est natural accessory one could hope to have! I personal struggle with a hair cut that flatters my relatively plain features and trying to achieve certain silhouettes with my outfits, going shorter was the best decision I’ve personally made in 2022!

Helen I can definitely see that your style formula is still pretty similar , you love your neutrals or flat colours as a base and then a pop of colour or one item in a print pattern. Lol if I had to go back to my uni days I was definitely more into sequins and loud outfits 😂 I was more of a maximalist back in the day ☺️ One thing I noticed, since I’m also petite- is that the ankle strap flat pumps actually cut your leg off. Especially when you wear midi length skirt or crop pants. Otherwise great video!

What a wonderful surprise! Such an interesting and analytic video, definitely helped me realize that it's perfectly normal to change your style - sometimes I feel like nowadays I "should find my lifelong style" where I can ofc experiment with new pieces but the core stays the same (very colourful, minimalistic, chic, streetstyle, feminine etc). Growing up I was always drawn to really feminine clothes with lots of frills and bows (kind of like lolita, but not as dramatic for everyday life). Then, when I entered my teens-late teens I mostly wore one piece of clothing I loved, ex a blouse I loved and just threw on a pair of jeans - I simply didn't really care about clothes and style, as long as I was dressed in clean, rather nice clothes. However, after entering uni I started to want to "look better" so I started to be more mindful about my outfits and had a rather polished, girly, feminine style (like the one you mentioned you didn't like) where I ALWAYS wore high heels, at least 7cm tall, no matter the weather, often with skirts together with blouses or shirts. I tohught that "since I'm short and love heels, high hells are my style and if I wear sneakers, they won't match my style and I won't look polished or chic enough." In hindsight it sounds really dumb.. Then, after findning your channel on youtube and other content creators (mademoiselle, whatveewore etc) I started to experiment freely with style and different ways to wear clothes, not being restrictid to simply one type of style or clothing. However, even now I can still get stuck in that mindset of feeling, like previously mentioned, that the style I have now is my "true" style and it shouldn't change anymore - but this is also hindering me from discovering new things and evolving my own personal style. That's why this video has been a really great lesson! 🥰

Thank you for sharing this, it's honestly incredibly interesting to hear! I think sometimes our style changes subtly without us even knowing. So there's no pressure to stick to a style/or change, as long as you're happy with it :) I think for me, there's more of a push to learn new tricks/styling ideas, but if I wasn't doing this job, the change would be a lot more subtle and slow, so don't feel like you have to be evolving all the time. This was so lovely to read, thank you for sharing again.

I documented my purchases for 10 years to know what I bought. I used to post ootd on a fashion website for a couple of years but got tired of it. Looking back, posting ootd did force me to pay attention to how I dress and my weight lol. I retired last year. I only go out Tuesday and Saturday night for chorus rehearsal and swing dancing. I would put on face paint and put on an outfit to feel fabulous. The only item missing is fragrance. I can’t wear it on riser and dance floor (not appropriate in close proximity with people).

This is really great, loved hearing about your style evolution. I've been a follower for a few years, and loved hearing you talk through phases I saw in real time. For me the only missed opportunity would be to talk about finances a bit. For me, these "style evolution" videos are a great opportunity to be transparent about money/finances and how access to financial "play money" allows for fashion exploration. Not a huge deal, just an issue pervasive in fashion and trying to shed some light on it! xx

  • @DailyHelenJ

Thanks Maureen, and that would definitely have been a good one to talk about. Re Finances, I think my trajectory is a bit of a funny one where earlier on I had a lot more finances to spend due to a few lucrative jobs during Uni - so while there was opportunity to purchase better, I simply didn't make the decision to do so and instead focused on quantity/ as well as splurging on big brand items. And I think over time, part of the reason I've become a lot more intentional is because I want my purchases to build on each other to make the budget I set aside go further. In other words, instead of having to replace things, I can add something more exciting/fresh to my wardrobe. Making weekly videos definitely plays the biggest role - as reviewing things/comparing things etc is the biggest part of my spending. Hope this sheds some light :)

I love most of the colors recommended by my Color Me Beautiful analysis 40 years ago, but I ended up dropping the purples and grays from my (Summer) Palette. Both felt drab on me and purples are a pain to style, they never seem quite right with other colors. I always felt I had to have some outfits in those colors, but it was more of a nuisance to do that than a pleasure. I think because I’m a Soft Summer, the closest to neutral, purples and cool grays are just too cold for me, they do nothing good for my coloring.

Another very informative video from you (I wish you’ll keep on posting 2 videos a week although I appreciate that’s a lot of work!). Personally some of the looks you created that I feel most inspired by was during late 2021-early 2022. I think I’m also in the process of finding the balance between monochromatic (e.g. COS) and colourful/feminine (e.g. Sezane) looks. I quite like to experiment with colours but I’m also not sure most of the time what suits me and I tend to buy stuff that end up not going well together. You mentioned that you’ve done 2 colour analyses, I wonder how you feel about beige? It’s a colour I don’t see you wear very often for tops/knitwear, although from memory you have a few pairs of beige trousers from & Other Stories that you highly recommended in past videos?

  • @DailyHelenJ

    @DailyHelenJ

    Жыл бұрын

Ah the COS versus Sezane balance is a familiar one for me haha! Re beige, it's not a colour that's recommended for me - as a matter of fact, I believe it's one of the colours that washes me out the most. I wear a lot of warm off white/creams and they tend to be good. With beige, it's more about the depth for me - so light beige is a no for me, but darker beige can work quite well. I tend to wear whatever colour for pants (because it's away from my face I find it doesn't really matter to much). & Other Stories does the best pants, I think I've just been wearing the white ones too much haha.
