Salute Professor. I lived in my car for two months. Taking showers at the gym, through a membership. I watched your videos during that time. Using public bathrooms, eating out everyday, sleeping in a walmart parking lot, there were others out there, you're vulnerable to a degree. Now I'm in my own place thanks so much to The Most High and people like you Soldier! Salute!

Not one kick, punch, elbow or head butt thrown in this video. By far, the best LIFE lesson message I’ve seen in my Martial Arts training of over 50 years. Why? because it can help Martial and Non-Martial Artist become the BEST version of themselves 👑

Thank you, Professor James. After twenty years, I left corporate America for full-time entrepreneurship. I am building a speaking, training, and consulting business. Driving Lyft and Uber allowed me to leave. It requires twelve to sixteen-hour days, seven days per week, while I’m building my businesses. Today I was tired, drained, and frustrated. Watching your story gave me renewed strength to continue to drive, and to build. Respect and success to you, Sir.

I appreciate your passion. My brother was robbed and eventually passed away about a month later then my sister was murdered the next week in a murder suicide just before Christmas. I know what you are going through. I developed anxiety and depression and had to leave the military. I have been putting myself together since then it been twenty years. I have had other setbacks in the martial arts but I’m doing well now good luck and I hope I can make a seminar or class one day.

Hello Professor David James, My name is John, I saw one video of yours, and know I see this video, you are truly a great man, cause you inspire others to believe In themselves, and to pursue there desires. Also you tell people to stay fit, cause health is very important, and to believe in themselves. When I was young, I’m 55 years old know, I had to great fortune, and I didn’t know it at the time, to sign up to a karate school in Manhattan, it was called “ the New York Karate Academy in Manhattan “ the Sensei was called Aaron Banks, he turned out to be the best instructor, cause he was very practical, just like you. I can totally relate to what you say, and how you teach self-defense, God bless you, because you are a blessing to everyone who stops and listens to you. You have a lot to teach people about life, and personal improvement.

I'm in thebmiddle of getting custody of my son and getting us away to a safe place. There is nothing that will stop me from saving him, he's 3yrs old. Never apologize for a long story! You are not only sharing your struggle, you are reveiling your win! If you can do what you've done without support there is no way for me to fail my mission when I do have support from those close to me. Today Feb 25th 2024, listening to your story out here in Pacifica Calif. First thing Sir--Respect! Second condolences losing your mother. You went a ruff road in life. Your story is same as mine. My Dad was a Police inspector S.F.P.D. like you said we never talked back to our parents. My dad was a good provider, but in the 1960's My Dad and mom fought for three years and divorced. My Dad also used to say when doing a job do it right the first time as you said. I was a Eagle Boy scout in the 1960's. Grew up going to church. One day my dad walked into my room and said your out of the house at 17. He said sink or swim. We live in a brutal world. My Dad always acted better and made fun of me all my life, not as good as him. In our days you could not be late to work. I had so many jobs and I worked Hard Labor. Joined the Marines during Vietnam, got out . Disipline is your life and believing in God, as Many wanted me to fall. Just a few of the jobs I did , Hardwood Floors 7 years on the Side, Janitor, 10 years in the Teamsters, 8 years putting.tires on buses in Oakland Cal. Driving trucks for different companies, 18 years for the Water dept. Also hired by Fire dept. I survived 12 Car accidents, Head on collision 115 MPH . while in Marines. many fights in Marines, broken nose , fights in town. I collected old cars and built a collection , and was set up and sent to Federal Prison in 2012 over a Bird?? Fell off top bunk twice Broke two ribs, 7" Scare where metal took skin down to bone, Laying in the rack with blood coming through my Pants. So I understand this man. Like he say's they don't give a dam about how many years you work. Like he says your word is all you have. I was Blessed with good strenght and loved Hard Work. I took a beating just like this guy. Disipline and hard work pays off. Lots of Respect David. Your a Good Man! Respect is earned. Respect givin.

Thank you for all you do, & thank you for showing up & sharing your truth. Your self mastery is evident & sharing the hardships you have overcome & blasted past are evidence of your character & grit. I am a parent & can see the lessons both parents were trying to convey. Thank you for being vulnerable & real to us & for opening up to the world the raw pain you have had to endure. If you are ever on the west coast, I would be honored to offer you a place to stay & to share some meals with. Keep doing what you do, you are giving many of us a model of what we didn't have in our lives & I thank you for your direction, purpose & heart. Keep sharing your passion. Thank you for being who you are. Many thanks!

6:14 these videos have been so helpful for me recently and hearing your background is very deep. I grew up with my dad telling me I was going to be nothing. I remember a long car ride of him telling my brother and sister how not to be like me, with me sitting right next to him. My dad was actually crazy, he's the type of person that will pick one little thing about you and hate you for it. I used to get straight A's in school and excelled at sports but he still disowned me at 16 I can't tell you how much that flipped my world upside down.

Yes, your story my life mirrors your story except for the parents situation. Both my parents were 9 to 5 parents. They didn’t get home till eight 9 o’clock. Most of the time I saw my father and mother on the weekends. Because by the time I woke up for school, my father and mother were already gone and by the time they got home from work, I was in bed. Like you I was thrown into a class I didn’t belong with students who didn’t speak English except I didn’t have anyone who believed in me until I dropped out of high school and had the pleasure of meeting the late Koshi, Ron, Austin, and Queens, Village, New York and sensei Joe Sessum. They were the ones who turned my life around.. I then got my high school diploma and immediately went into automotive school like you I’ve always been great with my hands hated school for many of the same reasons I was introduced to racism in junior high school where I was thrown into a brick wall and cracked my skull. This was an I S 59. But teacher who used to abuse the female students smashing them into the lockers and talking down to them. He never got in trouble, because there was no evidence until I was thrown into a brick wall, and cracked my skull by him I end up with amnesia and pretty much had to start over again. He was suspended, not fired, of course. but I know your story. Well, thank you for sharing yours.

Shihan David James. I was on youTube listening to a motivation speaker and BOOM your video appeared in the list of youTube videos. I said to myself "What? that is David James; I immediately subscribed to your channel. I am grateful to have heard your story. Prior to leaving NYC in the spring of 1994, I was one of your students at the Manhattan location (2nd Floor). We warmed up and trained (if you are not giving pain , you will get pain). As to your story....Absolutely true! You were exactly as your words in this video reflect. Great Integrity !! No BS. I live in Virginia now. My wife and I have raised four (4) children. I have taught each one of them, at an early age, "The five striking points"; I still have the VHS Vee Arnis Video and my VAJ go , which provided extra motivation to stay fit. I have been grateful for having gone through your school to this day. To know you are continuing to "Thrive" is an absolute blessing. I listen to Earl Nightingale and the other speakers you mentioned. As to my life: Once you meet and get to know who you really are, all the other BS will cease to exist! Thank you brother! My heart will continue to walk with yours. I am participating in a Triathlon this coming Sunday; Your words will resonate deeply. USH!

Sir I just want you to know the importance of what you just shared to me in this period of my life. I too come from a martial arts background which started over 50 years ago in Canada and am also originally from the Caribbean. I am presently going through legal battles in which I must be strong everyday for my sanity and for my family. I am a pensioner and know that i am going to fight this battle to the end no matter what it takes because I am innocent. If I have to start again from scratch then so be it. You gave me a reminder that it can be done, stick to your principles and your purpose. Brother your story is so inspiring you just became the wind beneath my sails. I will return to my personal development studies and continue with my daily gym training but now with more fervor and determination. As you said, " this too will pass " . I trust that your personal story will inspire others going through serious struggles in their life . Thanking you from the heart I wish you many blessings and may God grant you many more years of good health to keep on doing what you do ; helping people beyond the dojo. God bless.

Professor, I don't expect you to remember me, I was one of your students when you taught at Stuyvesant HIgh school in Manhattan. Best training I ever had! You have an amazing and inspiring story. I have also always been a huge fan of Les Brown, Ziz Ziglar, Brian Tracy and so many more. As you mentioned, after working 7 years at that high school, I got laid off, which temporarily rocked my world. I've since moved out of NYC, bought a house in the mountains of Pennsylvania and made a comeback. I still echo in my head "Stop the threat! Move the head!..." Your training is the realest training I have ever had. It really sticks and becomes second nature. Thank you for sharing your story,

WOW.. What a beautiful and moving testimonial. I truly hope many will take from you the inspiration to achieve at all cost and have the drive to do so as you did. But, it wasn't the personal development tapes & books that did it. YOU did it!! It was that internal burning desire to succeed at any/all cost that motivated you. The personal development material was simply the catalyst. You see sir, the personal development is "potential knowledge". And many out there obtain the cd's, dvd's, books, etc, and they end up gathering dust. But YOU; you actually transitioned from potential knowledge to "applied knowledge"!! That say's a lot about who YOU are. Because the application of said knowledge, that is the hard part. You had the desire to sacrifice at any cost in order to achieve success at what YOU wanted to excel in. A trait sadly lost to many in today's society. What if the guy who invented "7-UP" stopped trying at "3-up" or "4-up"? Well, you get it. Personal development, motivational material, exact methodologies are all out there (and many are free) for all to partake. Our libraries, & internet, are overflowing with such works from many who have achieved the pinnacle of their craft. BUT, sadly our libraries are empty, more people hanging around wasting valuable time (our 2nd most precious commodity after our health) doing nothing. And online, most could be utilizing that resource more expeditiously as well. I also respectfully add that while your dad wanted the best for you and thus was firm on the college route, he failed to realize not every kid is meant for college. There are many who have become quite wealthy while in the trades. My personal opinion; I just don't see how some of these kids today ever made it thru college? When they can't even do basic math, thus giving you correct change. If the machine doesn't tell them how much to give back they are lost. (So, it begs the question: What did mom & dad pay for these last 4 yrs?) Or better still, how did these kids pass the SAT's to get into college when they can't do basic math? Valid question ? (side note: are you aware that Harvard now offers you course material to major in Taylor Swift, or Beyonce? TRUE!! Your parents can fork over $70k/yr for their child to major in Taylor Swift or Beyonce". How will this enhance their career I don't know? ) Anyway, this IS a long response due to a well deserved testimonial but I will leave YOU and everyone with the following.. I was at a Brian Tracy seminar over 20 yrs ago and Mr. Tracy asked the audience "what is the BEST book you have read on motivational material, business", etc. Some stated Sun Tzu, others stated Machiavelli's "The Prince" while still others spoke about Jim Rohn or Les Brown. I awaited until everyone sat down and I remained standing and said in a loud & firm tone "Mr. Tracy, the BEST work EVER written on any of the aforementioned subject matter is The Holy Bible!! The ridicule and laughter which followed that statement was deafening! I awaited until everyone had their laugh as well as their lewd remarks. Then I made yet another statement to substantiate the preceding one. "No Other Written work out there delves into that which is the human condition, as well as having withstood the test of time for 2000 yrs" !! I went on to state that if we put the religious aspect aside, no written work goes into great detail explaining the human element as the Bible does. NONE!! Period!! Consider: "Mr. Tracy, one of your basic tenets is the principle of "cause & effect," is it not I boldly asked? Then I followed up with "is that not the exact same thing as "reap what you sow"? To Mr. Tracy's credit, he admitted to taking that from the Bible. I added, "the 7 deadly sin's, are they not the exact same elements referred to "trigger points" by the sale's gurus currently hosting seminars? You know, "greed", "envy", etc, etc?? Brian Tracy then stated that nobody has ever made such statements in his entire career as a speaker, and then told his people to present me with his dvd / book collection as an appreciative gift. That caused a roaring applause. (Much better than the laughter and heckling I initially received). But to all who read this, know that whether it involves relationship, emotional, business, or most any type of advice, there is an answer. Read your Bible's. Mr. Tracy came and spoke to me after his presentation and told me that most motivational speakers, and life coaches get their material from the Bible and simply present it to the masses in a simplified manner more easily understood. (Since many of the verses in the Bible are metaphorically written most don't have a clue as to the actual interpretation let alone the application of said wisdom). You could pay thousands for such seminars or just read the Bible. Just saying.. Professor, You are a beacon of light to those who would listen and take heed. Your message is loud & clear sir. Like a big brother concerned for the well being of his siblings. I applaud your endeavor to enlighten those who would listen to the wisdom. Blessings to All this Holiday Season. Ous.

I lost my father last year in tragic circumstances it was unexpected. I literally couldn’t go on nothing could spark my interest anymore. I trained for over 30 years in martial arts and had some talent for it. I stopped training. I was a successful musician at one time. I couldn’t even listen to music anymore because I was reminded of my dad. I even lost a good job in mental health but my own mental health was/is suffering. I was once like yourself where what ever I did I couldn’t fail at it. Now I have failed and it’s hard to pick myself back up. I’m still dealing with my dads loss and trying to get justice for what happened. But listening to your story, after losing your family after your mother that hit me. I can’t imagine what/how that would feel like. I know what it feels like to be homeless I was homeless at 16 and went from being on the streets to being a household name in the UK music industry. I bounced back but I’m older now and I just can’t seem to bounce back from it. Watching your videos and listening to what you said on this video I have to start back my training. If I completely lose that I know I will completely lose myself. Wish that I could reach out to you from the UK but have family in Manhattan Brooklyn and Miami. Your story touched me and I’m realising there is hope and there is light it just isn’t my time yet. Thank you and blessings

I don’t even know where to begin with this. I was like you about School Professor James, except I choose the Military route. My Mom especially, went nuts when She found out I joint the Marine Corps. I retired 20 years of service. I made up in my mind during that time circa 1980, that I was going to accomplish this goal. All doing my career, I decided to start the Martial arts. I wrestled in high school, and was a amateur Boxer. This story is so all awe inspiring Professor James. Thank you very much for sharing.

I've begun training with prof. James somewhere in the late 80s and seen some of the struggles that he has had to deal with. But much of this I wasn't Aware of. As I listened to this video I became a bit emotional. Although I am older now this still just really makes me want to do much more in life. And I will add that prof James has got to be one of the top all around instructors that you will probably ever run across today. He is the real deal. A very humble human being. Although it has been quite some time that I've been on his mat training, his philosophy has always been with me. He was and will always be a true leader! Believe me!
