MY SECOND LABOUR EXPERIENCE | A HOME BIRTH STORY

When pregnant with my second baby, I decided to have a home birth. In this video, I go through the pros and cons of home birth, how we made our decision to have our baby at home rather than at the hospital, and how my second labour differed to my first labour.
I also talk about my experience of shoulder dystocia and how that was managed by the midwives attending my home birth.

ABOUT US:
I'm Chloë. I live in London, UK, with my three boys, aged seven and under, and my boyfriend, Sam. And my absolute favourite thing in the world is documenting our family story through words, videos, and photos.
I started my blog when my firstborn was a baby. I was 25, and my whole world had changed with an unplanned pregnancy. I felt lonely and bored and was hoping a blog might help connect me with like-minded parents whilst also giving me a much needed creative focus.
Our sudden ascent into parenthood was messy, life with kids is messy, and so is the state of my head at the best of times- hence Sorry About The Mess.
Things are much more settled in our life now. I've gone on to have two more children, and you'll mainly find me chatting about house renovations (we bought a fixer-upper), my motherhood experience so far, and plans for our upcoming wedding!
As well as blogging and vlogging, you can find me chatting away daily on Instagram.
The digital record, that's for me, really. So I'll be able to look back and recall every fibre of the happy moments, the everyday moments, and the big life events that make up our family story.

Such good advice regarding how much extra there is to do and the impact on your partner...not something that often gets talked about but well worth people discussing when they’re planning!

We definitely didn't realise the extra work and impact involved for Sam. The midwives do loads, but there are some things they can't do - packing down a birth pool after a long exhausting labour is one of those things!

I didn’t realise how much was involved with a home birth, thanks for sharing! I went to hospital to have both of mine and found it worked best for us, amazing that you can do it all in the confort of your own home though! X

Caleb Berkheimer when they put in an epidural, they also put in a catheter. The feeling of having to go to the bathroom is sometimes the feeling of baby arriving and you need to push

Hi, I haven't had a homebirth but I did have a large baby with meconium in the waters and shoulder dystocia. She was 10lb 5oz and the actual delivery is such a blur as I was pushing for over 3 hours and completely exhausted. I did have my legs held up but I don't think it was anything as intense as the manouver they did to you, that sounds really scary. I did need an episiotomy though and tore as well. I had quite heavy bleeding so I'm thankful I was in the hospital. I really wanted a homebirth for no.2 but they strongly advised against it. My 2nd and 3rd have been come at 38 weeks (first baby was 42 weeks) and have been much smaller at 7lb 6oz and 7lb 10oz. I am really interested to see your next birth story 🙂

Scarlett Hanna I was advised that the chances of shoulder dystocia happening again with my 3rd were low, but I did worry about having another big baby! (Like you, though, he was a good few pounds smaller than his older bro)

Chloe Bridge my midwife tried to put maximum fear into me. It must just be luck of the draw. Glad yours was more optimistic 🙂
