I'm glad you mentioned this. It is rare to see scooters with a kick stand switch. But that will throw you for a loop of you dont know about it.

The psi on a good motor should be around 130 and if you're at sea level around 150 to 160 or so. 90 psi will not start the engine I would check the valves to be sure they are not tight

After a while of testing, I checked the kill switch. Sure enough, it had somehow gotten shut off during riding. that was my problem. Thanks for the vid. i was about to take it to a shop.

Charlie, You replaced most of the ignition system. I would check to be sure the kill switch is working on the scooter. unplug the right hand switch and kick the kick start to see if you are getting spark. Also check the continuity on the blue wire with the white strip. Be sure this wire is not broken. This wire tells the engine when to start. Be sure the two stator wires are plugged in correctly, you may have switch them on accident. Try one more cdi, we have had faulty brand new cdi's.

The rectifier regulators purpose is to convert the a/c voltage from the stator to d/c volt and regulate it so it doesn't go above 15 volts.

That Kick Stand Switch was a New One on Me. God Bless, C.

how many wires are on your cdi harness plug? be sure the two wires going to the coil are correct. you can even swap them to see if that does anything. if you have unplugged the kill switch, changed out the cdi, replaced the stator and the coil. The only thing left is the wiring. most importantly the blue wire with the white strip that goes from the stator to the cdi box. be sure all of the wires are secure on the plugs. I have seen a hand full of scooters with a wire coming out of the cdi plug.

Charles, No this will not effect the ignition spark at all. I think your testing the volts on a/c switch your meter to d/c. You should have 12.5-13.20 volts on a fully charged battery with out the scooter started. Once you start the scooter, there are two tests, test the voltage at 1k rpm and 3k rpm. Both tests should be higher then 12 volts but not exceeding 15 volts, If your scooter over charges (over 15volts) you will blow out headlights, taillights and your battery.

You say you replaced the spark plug wire twice, but have you replaced the ignition coil? also how many wires go into your cdi box? I want to be sure you have installed the correct cdi box. Some are a/c but most are d/c

thanks for the video, i replaced my spark plug and coil and still no spark, i just noticed my kill switch is not working, i can turn the engine over with the kill switch off, but no spark still.. also i don't feel any fuel inside the spark plug chamber.

I think your on the right track. There is a/c and d/c cdi box's. You may have purchased the opposite of what you had.

Hi, is there any possible way to run a scooter engine without any electronics like cdi box or battery? Simply raw engine with connected fuel and with start it manually. I got a old scooter engine without electronics but the engine self was running before we build it out.

This is true, However the stator has a pickup coil and one of the coils on the stator is used for spark. If its bad you will not get spark

Charles, We sale a kit for $150. This kit includes everything to fix a spark issue. It comes with all parts and the puller to remove the stator rotor. To test the starter remove it from the scooter, and bench test it. Its pretty rare for starters to go bad. Most likly if your pushing the start button and not getting any action it is going to be the starter solenoid.

Full ignition is kill switch, kickstand switch(if it has one), cdi box, stator, ignition(key), or ignition coil.

Do you have them for the XY260T-4 Chinese scooter? Their like the VOGs, Linher or how ever you spell it lol I know their similar......I have like 6 modules wrote down that are like clones........I just replaced my CDI box yet nothing, my dash works, turn signals, and lights but not crank/start at all! I'm so lost!

So I recently replaced the ignition coil and the starter solenoid with newer ones one day just to give me something to do, and it wouldn't start even after I was just riding it right before the fix. So I put the old ones back on and it still wouldn't start. Killswitch is fine, battery has power, it's trying to turn over, there's fuel, can it still be either the cdi or stator?

I have a 50cc gy6 scooter I bought dirt cheap. it has spark, compression. but it doesn't have a carburetor. now I tried spraying some gas down the intake thinking it would at least pop once but nope did nothing. the timing marks line up perfect and valves working. the wireing is a bit mest up but still has spark. question is.. should it at least pop by putting gas down the intake without a carburetor??? I couldn't get it to do anything. I will get a carb for it but didn't want to waist money.

I have a BMS evo v9 which i guess it is like a GY6. I smelt a wire burn and no longer nothing happens when i turn on the ignition. no lights, no nothing.. what could this be? If you dont mind..

You can test a coil, and stator for resistance. We have had very bad experience doing it this way. The problem is there is many different stators and resistance readings. However we do have many Chinese service manuals. I would recommend purchasing a new cdi box and a new coil. This is by far the simplest test. When purchasing them purchase performance coil and cdi that way its not a waist if the parts are not the problem, on top of that these are good diagnostic tools for later if needed.

Please help me in some fashion. Yesterday after work I went to start my scooter. She crackled popped etc so as I usely do I went to open the throttle to clear the engine better. Then something odd happened, when I held the throttle on wide open she would accelerate then decelerate on it's own. I managed to putt to to wawa. After getting gas she would not start at all. It appears to be not getting spark. Is there any rig jobs etc I could do for testing? This is a 50cc vip based scooter, 2008 model.

My gy6 cut out when riding a few weeks ago. When I pulled over and tried to start it spluttered to start and failed. After much checking I think I've narrowed it down to my cdi. It looked like it had come loose (some plug connected to it) squeezed it back together and it restarted and ran no problem. Keeps happening though, think the vibration shakes it loose. Does this make sense/seem feasible that I have found the right fault? The last two times it happened I touched only this bit when trying to fix, and sure enough it fired and ran. This being loose (if it is this), could it cause the engine to backfire, which mine does once a week or so?

Same thing happened to those wires that connects to the CDI plug, one of the wires snapped and I have to find a replacement wire. Do you know where to get the spare parts at?

i have a vento zip R3 that my buddy was riding and my other friend pushed the remote alarm button and the scooter died and wont start. is there a way to reset the alarm system. it has no kill switch or kick stand sensor.

turn up the idle rate. it's a screw with a spring under it, beside the carburator turn it right 1 full turn, should keep it idling better

Hello. I have a Tao Tao 50cc 2011 scooter with 283 miles on it. I bought it from a guy who only rode it a few times, then put it up for the winter and couldn't get it to start the next spring. I have replaced the stator coil, CDI and the spark plug wire. I have tested for spark with 2 different spark plugs. I do not get any spark, haven't and I've tested it after every replacement of a part. The lights work. The engine cranks like it wants to turn over, it just won't.

if my regulator is bad will that stop it form getting spark i test the battery with a multi-meter and is 24.6v when off and when i try to start it it drop to 18.7v thanks charlie

my sister has exactly the same bike as that.. She had a bad wiring loom on it. so i bought a second hand one and fitted it.. all wires and connectors going to the correct ones.. even held the old loom beside it to check. but now it has no spark.. Ive tested another coil, spark plug, its recently had a brand new stator anyway, so cant be that.. But did find that the Reg/Rec was knackered..(had a cracked hole in the rear of the casing).. so got another on order.. Please help.. im getting frustrated with it... if it helps, i replaced the loom because smoke came out from the front.. and the reg/rec actually smells like the smell that the burning smoke gave off.. But surely a knackered reg/rec cant cause lack of spark?? cheers

Normally when that happens it’s the wrong battery installed or it’s on a jumper box

i have a 2003 panterra fusion scooter with a 49cc motor,i just purchased a new cdi box,new coil wire and a new stator and installed them myself,i am getting fuel but the scooter will not start it just cranks over,any idea what it can be

maybe you have fixed it already but have you not used your scooter in about 3-4 months? then maybe the battery is uncharged so you have to charge it up or buy a new one. (sorry for bad english)

Hmm Kickstand switch..ok What does the right control switch look like.. also Im not worried @ starter right now but starter wont turn over and batterry is hot and light s come on with switch on..Hit start button and it just makes click noise...butg any way thank you for your help and I will tinker with it a little bit more and give you a call @ ordering parts from you...

I have had my scooter for not long just over 2000 miles now. The throttle/ idle will slowly die not long after starting it. Also loss of power is noticeable , only getting 25mph out of it now, us to get up to 35mph. Ive changed both oils and don't know what to try next. what should I try????? my dad suggested change of spark plug, ive also seen peole say check the carb. Thanks Tao Tao 50cc

Don't forget to change the spatkplug it can be shot as well. Especially the Chinese plugs that came with scooter.

I just got Ming going after a big bore kit and cam, it was running good, not got to ride yet, it stopped running, and no spark, I know it doesn't matter, but it has a new CDI, I checked it with another CDI, still nothing, it has a new coil, that doesn't matter these days, it ran for two minutes! I guess I'll be looking into it all again!I hope it's the coil,,. It has sat in the rain a lot before I got it! It acted like I hit the kill switch !! Back at again I guess!!

if nether the coil or the cdi box are not the problem its probably the stator. But your very first checks should be making sure all of your wires on your plugs are perfect and not coming loose. One more think disconnect the right side control switch. Use the kick starter to see if you have spark. If you do spark after unplugging the right side switch, you have a bad kill switch (or you can do a continuity test). Be sure that you do not a kickstand switch, if you do be sure its up when starting.

I'm fixing a tank, which has been sitting. Turn the key and nothing, kick start is messed up, but it did start after several attempts. and was at full throttle. Ran out of gas and that was it. Put gas in it tried it again nothing. I put in a new cdi box and nothing. I ran a hotwire from the battery to starter and it turns and turns, checked the plug but there was no spark. Any ideas?
