    I had the same thing happen to me, sent them in for repair, and in a surprisingly short time they sent me a new pair- it seems that they have actually fixed the issue, as my new pair have a different/sturdier connector design with a larger piece (with what seems to be a different/stronger material) in the middle.

    Thanks for making this video. I have the same problem. Bought mine in April 2022, and the plastic housing around the FitLock locking system cracked and fell apart when I lightly set the headphones on my desk. It surprised me because the force of putting them down was so light. I called Rode support, and they are replacing them. I'll have to baby the next pair. For $149, I expected a better product.

    It's funny after watching your video I just went and looked at some other reviews. In particular, resolve from the headphone show was saying very specifically that this wasn't his favorite recommendation for sound but was especially suited for people that were " rough on their headphones." This hobby is something else.

    Thanks again buddy. I posted 3 months ago with the very same issue. I sent them back to RODE UK repair depot after going through the RMA process. After a few weeks, I received a brand new pair which I registered straight away. Just this week, I randomly decided to check my new pair......and there is a hairline crack on both sides of the left ear bracket :( Looks like more faff requesting RMA and waiting to receive a replacement again. Glad to see that RODE have now offered lifetime warranty, but I would prefer if they went back to the drawing board and strengthened the faulty clips so that they lasted as they should as premium headphones. I just received a promotion email advertising the 'New' NTH-100M headphones with Mic but it does look like they have the very same clips! Here's hoping Rode see all these messages and listen. Fingers crossed!

    Mine did exactly the same after about 6 weeks of use at my desk. I don't wear mine off one ear, they broke purely from being picked up from my desk. The fact that such a huge hunk of steel connected to the earcup goes into such a flimsy bit of plastic, and that the steel is allowed to flex against that plastic is utterly ridiculous. Once this plastic surround snaps, and it will, that's it, headphones unusable. Do not buy these.

  • @Narinjas

    @Narinjas

    more people should know about this, and they should do a recall and replace the part wit a stronger one that is either full metal , or metal with plastic over-mold system that has rugged plastic to metal that is backed by a metal structure inside and soft touch plastic on the outside. (you can to that with pressure difference, plastic mold injection direction, and mold texture.)

    I have had two pairs for almost a year now. It took a while to get used to it's sound signature, but it is very pleasant and not fatiguing. Very nice cans for the price. I love the pads. Very comfy. They really provide some cooling via pads. Left side of the first pair broke exatly the same as yours. I'll be definitely registering warranty for life :) I saw design flaw right away, but maybe I have been extra gentle with these because of that. Have extra pair like me and for emergencies have couple of zip ties close by :)

  • @theory-in-motion

    To be fair, the twist-lock wasn't where it broke... it was technically (yeah, I know) the moulding that houses the actual connector for the ear cup; the locks still work great. The break is because of torsion (twisting) against the plastic, and the hardness of the metal versus the plastic moulding. Depressingly, this could have been solved with, like... $0.50 worth of aluminum...maybe 4 screws... to prevent the tabs on the cups from shearing off the plastic on either side. I've got a pair that I love for the money, with both cups broken, because of my gargantuan head. And part of me wants to get a replacement set... and part of me wants to just figure out how to bolt the cups in place, and sand down the plastic, so that I can keep using them. The weird bit is that the build quality of virtually every other part seems great... why such a massive, massive oversight that could be solved with two little strips of metal, or even just a screw and a washer?

    I just gifted a pair of these, don't have one in front of me, spitballing practical repairs. Could a small diameter machine screw with an appropriate size washer under the head replace the locking tab, going through the headband and the earcup flange, then another washer and a nyloc nut? Would that hold it all together? If one could include the piece that breaks off under the inner washer that would be better. You would lose easy adjustability but if used by just one person might not be too bad. I know anodized black hardware is available in some small sizes used in DIY speakers.

The Left side now has a fracture down the side as well and probably will fail in a few days. Sent a Support request in to Rode on their website. If you register your headphones on the site Rode gives a 2 year warrant. I uploaded my sales receipt but the web site did not request this as mandatory. Even so, these cans not be failing. As someone else said probably poor design. Will Rode permanently come up with a solution or just Band-Aid by continually replacing the plastic parts? I'll update when Support answers.

    Same thing happened to mine today (6 months after purchase). I was absolutely loving these but now I see that RODE completely cheaped out on a vital part. Just submitted a service request and waiting to hear back from them. ☹ UPDATE: They just sent me a return authorization email. Apparently, I have to pay the shipping though? That stinks.

    It's good that it's covered with a lifetime warranty, probably because it's going to keep stuffing up for your lifetime🤣. Bits of plastic have broken off my right earcup. It's just hanging on by a bit of plastic, but is still useable for now. Once the last bit of plastic breaks off, I'm going to be sending it to RØDE under warranty. If they just repair the faulty part, I'll keep using them, but if they completely replace the headphones (so that the ear pads are clean & new), I'll be putting them up for sale and will go with another brand. The fact that they break is a very poor design-flaw. The clasp should have been made of metal. There really is no excuse.

    This is why I've decided just never to buy products that are being hyped up on launch on KZread. There's no batteries or software, so there should be no rush. Might as well wait and see how they're holding up in a year when all the KZread hype had died down. Every single review it was gushing that these were revolutionary and would totally change the game... And I'm sure if they ever release a new variant to come in they'll say that one's the best thing since sliced bread. Now just a few months later and you can already see used ones on Amazon for 110 bucks. This hobby really banks on hype, FOMO, etc... It's getting pretty ridiculous.

    Just because they make good mics doesn't mean they make good everything else. Maybe manufactured in a different facility?

    Yeah, I think most disappointing thing is there must have been 40 glowing reviews from fairly prominent KZread channels. I don't know if they were paid, if they were most of them didn't disclose it. And I don't recall any of them even hinting at a vulnerability like this. I mean 2 months. That's what I expect with the koss KPH-30i!

    Having owned allot of Rode microphones. I would say that they are average overall. Good would be subjective as they tend to be a warmer or muddier sounding mic and tend to lack that senheiser crispness. The NT1 is an anomaly tho. My NTG3 has been in my kitbag for a while but if I could justify the purchase of a senheiser replacement I would.

    That's crap, and lifetime warranty (not on wear and tear mind you) is not a solution, they should redesign the construction, maybe a mark II version soon? I swear by my Sony MDR 7506's for location work, apart from the earpads (replace those immediately) and a very "revealing" top end (which is quite nice actually for recognizing issues in dialogue recording) they are indestructable!
